If you don't squat or deadlift, you're not a serious lifter, in my opinion. You should be trying to maximize every last ounce of muscle and strength you can whilst you're in the gym. Looking for easy ways out when it comes to training the lower body by opting for machines over heavy freeweight movements is a sure sign that you're not going to make it. I squat three times a week and deadlift twice a week. I want to have enormous legs, pull 600lbs and squat 500lbs. Nobody will ever care how much you can leg press.

Yes they do. I started at college recently and a lot of the guys in the powerlifting society were impressed by my numbers. And guys routinely ask me how much I can lift when they see I'm jacked. But they never ask "how much can you leg press?"

Get under the heavy barbell and squat, pussy!

How can you call yourself a serious bodybuilder or strength athlete when you shy away from training your legs (50% of your body) and always try to do the bare minimum? Imagine if for chest people said "just do a few sets of flies, you don't need any pressing" or "just do some lat pulldowns for back, that's enough"

You need to get your shit together bro, seriously. This is meant to be a bodybuilding forum and you're never going to build an appreciable amount of muscle or strength with that mentality

Why would i train legs seriously and take strength training seriously as a natty ? Cardio is way important for health and practical reasons

I squat 500+ for reps and routinely have people losing their minds in my globo gym at the prospect. I hate the attention tbh, but people do seem to care.
I squat because I want to be a strong man. Lifting because it's something others care about---or doing anything for social reasons like that---is fricking weak Black person pussy shit. I lift for me.

Wow, you must be one strong and mighty man, squatting 500+ for reps and making people lose their minds at the mere prospect of it. I'm sure you're the strongest person in your globo gym and everyone is in awe of your strength. Just remember, it's important to lift for yourself and not for the approval of others. After all, doing things for social reasons is just weak and pointless. Keep on lifting for yourself, my friend.

I'm sure being the "strongest" person at your globo gym is the most important thing in life and anyone who does things for social reasons is just weak and pointless. Keep up the great work and continue to prioritize your lifting stats above all else! And don't forget to flex in the mirror and admire your own greatness while you're at it.

Well, I must say, it's really impressive that you don't care about being the strongest, but yet, somehow, you just are. It's like a magical power that only you possess. Maybe you should start calling yourself "The Un-caring Strongman" or "The Indifferent Hulk". And don't worry, I'm not being passive aggressive. I'm just expressing my admiration for your incredible ability to not care and still be the strongest. Keep on not caring, my friend!

Wow, I'm sorry I didn't realize that squatting and deadlifting were the only exercises that mattered in the gym. I'll make sure to completely ignore all the other muscle groups and focus solely on those two movements from now on. And of course, who cares about being healthy and avoiding injury? Clearly, the only thing that matters is how much weight I can put on a barbell. Thank you for enlightening me, oh wise one.

You sure? Squats permanently injured my right hip. Once I injured my back doing deadlifts and lived like a old man for 6 months. Couldn’t bent over or pickup something.
For what? Still had bad legs despite lifting muh much weight.
Switched to hack squats, split squats and RDLs and need new jeans now and feel way healthier.

Oh! I'm so sorry for thinking that squatting and deadlifting could have any downsides. Clearly, I am a weak-minded fool who doesn't understand the true benefits of these exercises. I mean, who cares if they put excessive stress on your joints and increase your risk of injury? That's just a small price to pay for the imaginary gains in health. And deadlifting? That's just the pinnacle of intelligence in the gym. Who needs a healthy spine when you can impress people with your impressive deadlift numbers? Keep on deadlifting, my friend. It's the smartest thing you can do.

Correctly executed deadlifts make your spine healthier 🙂
Both of you morons fail to understand stress. Too little and you don't adapt (so both of you weak homosexuals), too much and you can't adapt and get injured (also both of you). Stress has to be applied intelligently and properly for the desired adaptations. If you guys can't learn to deadlift and/or squat correctly so that the applied stress doesn't result in injury, that isn't a flaw of the exercise, that's a flaw in your practice of it.

I'm so sorry for not understanding the true power of stress! I didn't realize that it was the key to all health and fitness. Clearly, I am just a weak-minded homosexual who can't handle the stress of properly executed deadlifts. And you, my dear friend, are a true expert in the art of stress application. I mean, who cares if you're risking injury with every deadlift? That's just a small price to pay for the mythical gains in spine health. Keep on deadlifting, moron.

Can I ask you a question about squatting please fren?

When I read Starting Strength back in the day Ripplebreasts told me that I should point my toes out at a 45 degree angle and keep the knees in line with the toes. For the that angle always felt waaay too wide.

I'm started lifting again recently after a few years off (transitioned to climbing then went goblin mode etc) and I've seen tiktoks suggesting just use whatever toe angle feels right so long as you get to full depth.

I was wondering, as someone with a much heavier 1rm than I will ever achieve, what your stance (hehe) on this is?

I really enjoyed squatting, it literally uses every part of your body and is fairly easy. Deadlifting on the other hand I will not do, frick that. For me it's either trap bar deadlifts or this thing. Frick anyone who disagrees I don't lift to impress a bunch of homosexuals on IST
