      impingement?
lat pulls on humerus which pulls on scapulae closing shoulder joint on rotator cuff when u go down
it could be decent movement IF u can at will and have enough power to hold extended thoracic spine and drop scapulae and glue it to rib cage tilted already through thoracic extension , but this ability will fail before lats, so why would one do it? to get better scapular or thorasic fuction? lol cause u ain't building lat before shoulders blow up

there is no impingement only when ur scapulae is dropped on extended thoracic spine, lat is enormous compared to muscles responsible for those 2 functions and it will always win eventually = no lats and fricked shoulders

      Anonymous

pullups are great exercise to take long rests with
if you have a pullup bar in your home, just keep on doing sets every 5-10 minutes. do submaximal sets so if your max is 10, try to do like 8 reps for the first few sets then drop to 6 or 5 for the rest

      here is a plan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9Mu-azxol8&t=3s
this guy's calisthenics content is good
alternatively, assuming you can do 10 strict reps, you are probably strong enough to begin doing weighted pull ups. see if you can do 5 sets of 4 reps with one plate, with a few minutes of rest in between. I can find a different video for weighted pull up progressions if you want.

        Anonymous

Unironically started doing calisthenics everyday because of this guy. Though he achieved his physique mostly through weightlifting in the past and now just maintains it with calisthenics. Which pisses me off because this is how people are misled into believing calisthenics builds a body like that.

          Anonymous

Yes, and he probably has a greater genetic potential than most. Calisthenics are still pretty great tho.
I want to know where he got his money from, because his house looks pretty fricking nice. I would love to have a backyard set up like his with the pull up bar and large paved area.

I can only do 5 pull ups. Then every set after it, it goes down by one. So it's like 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
How do I increase reps most effectively? Negatives? Resistance band? Weighted?

      Anonymous

A great way to increase volume is to do sub-maximal sets with 60 seconds or rest in between. See if you can do 10 sets of three reps, then move on to sets of 4 reps, etc. Make sure you are really strict with your form, and you can add a pause at the top if you want to make them more difficult. It can be a grind, but doing 40 or 50+ reps three times per week should lead to significant improvement in a few months.

        Anonymous

Awesome. Thank you for the extremely clear cut answer. Will be doing this from now on.
I'd say I'm EXTREMELY strict with form, and I always spend a lot of time on the descend which saps away a lot of my energy.

Picrel set a guinness world record for most pullups with 100 lb weight on his back. He went on Season 42 of survivor. In fact, there was one challenge that had clearly not been designed for the rough sea conditions actually encountered on the day of filming. Of the three tribes competing, two did not even come close to finishing the challenge. Jonathan did the entire challenge all by himself and at one point literally carried his teammates on his back through the rough water.

Based survivor enjoyer. Jonathon was a highlight of that shit season, and that challenge was one of the biggest beastmode moments I've ever seen on survivor. There are a few other people/tribes who just dominated a challenge and made the other tribe look dumb but Jeff having to stop it due to safety after Jonathon soloed it was a new one

i still dont do cardio though (im not a pussy)

just get one of those bands. there are multiple levels of them

      negatives are moronic

yeah my gym had a really dodgy selection of those but it looks like they got some new ones recently so I'll try
do you recommend using them under a bent knee or straight legs and under the foot?

          >do you recommend using them under a bent knee or straight legs and under the foot?
          doesn't make a difference i think
i tried both but i personally prefer under the foot and straight legs
just be careful because it might slip and hit your balls

        Anonymous

If you are paranoid of getting your balls smashed by a band when doing pullups, try just working on your lat pulldown machine until you can do your bodyweight for reps. The technique is quite similar. Also you can try doing half reps with pullups, so not from the deadhang, until you are able to do a few of the strict ones. You can jump to the bar and pull instead of setting just the negative portion. There are many options, pick the ones you like the most and go ham

On it, bro. I started training pullups 1.5 years ago.
Currently I'm up to 18 (clean) per set overhand, and 19 underhand. I've also been gaining weight so the progress is excruciatingly slow at this point, relative strength is a b***h. My goal is to hit 25, like a proper man.

I have been working on pull ups for 3 years, semi consistently i have gotten to:

18 pull ups in a row with clean form, 21 if i just do the last ones sloppy
    10 reps with 90 lbs
two one arm chin ups with my right arm, only one with the left

this progress is probably very mediocre for such a long time,i have fricked my left elbow a lot these past years (literally decided to stop doing pull ups for a couple of weeks since my elbow hurts a lot), i also gotta add that my back blew up after i started doing more for back than just pull ups
still pull ups are great and i plan to be able to do AT LEAST 10 pull ups in a row even if i am at my worst

For anyone actually serious about doing more pullups...

    Day 1: 5 x AMRAP (2-3 min rest)
Day 2: 10 x However many strict form pullups you can do ten sets of (1-2 min rest)
Day 3: Pyramid up to however many strict form pullups you can do then back down (1-2 min rest)
Day 4: Same as Day 2
Day 5: Same as Day 1

Increase reps by 1 pullup Days 2/4 and to the next sequential number on Day 3 every 3rd week.

Went from a max of 7 pullups to 27 in 5 months.
