Doesn't matter if you're 50. Good health is the goal. Aesthetics is the cherry on top. Everyone should have an exercise regimen.

This, unfortunately after around 27 your body starts to decay and onwards is when most health problem occur
Thats why for anyone that is 18-20 that maybe wasn't active from 13-17 should start now
People that are already in shape and strong pretty much enter a "silver back" phase in their life after 27
Your best chance is to start condition now and hopefully have a few children by now (4-7 if you're a European otherwise 1-2) then hope on hrt in a few years (in your 30s) since hrt will pretty much kill your balls and natural test production.

or as a 29 yr old who has squandered the prime window of physical, mental and social development given to him and is just now putting the pieces together and desperately trying to make up for lost time any way he can?

But if you've never gotten remotely close to fit before, how do you start? I'm NEET and can't fathom going to the gym or outside but I'd like to see what having a healthy body is like: not cringe at the idea of being out of breath, be able to go on hikes, physical stuff in general.

+10y smoking and 0 physical activity, obviously overweight yet too lazy to be obese, scoliosis so dunno if i can lift. What can I do indoors, by myself, to get in good enough shape ?

Do you think people only play the latest games?
Lol gamers constantly shift back and forth with retro ,modern and some titles from a few years ago they missed on.
The backlog is infinite and it only grows, even if no games ever come out ,if you play vidya you keep discovering tons of older interesting titles.

Not sure wtf you guys are talking about. The idea that only kids and adolescents play games is a relic of the past now surely. I'm 37 and couldn't imagine giving up completely.

I can't believe how badly you are misunderstanding the meme. The dude on the left isn't playing sports, does that mean he never played sports? No, so it doesn't mean he never played videogames.

The point of the meme, which any norrmal person understands immediately, is what you are really excited about, where your mentality is, and what results you end up getting. It also doesn't mean you can't take up lifting in your 30s. The other dude is I assume still lifting in his 30s.

Literally everyone else understood it immediately except you two.

    I was 250 lbs when I was 29, couldn't do a single push up.

I lost 70 lbs, got a job doing hard labor, lost 30 more lbs, built muscle, feel better than I did in my 20s, 32 now.

I quit my labor job because the commute, the pay didn't keep up with inflation. I was in charge of a LOT livestock so it was a lot of stress. Got an easier job that pays more.

When I started I couldn't do a single push up, had to start with 'girl' push ups.

What kept you going ? I tried home exercice and never had the discipline to keep on, I'd always give it up after a few months. I feel like if I could chart out a plan it'd make it easier to stick to, as it was I always felt like I was just doing random exercices until I was tired.

It’s not whether or not it’s too late to start but how late you’re to being a man. Every guy should lift one way or the other, and you should start, and not only start but put extra effort for all those years you were playing with your balls instead of pumping iron.

  10. 2 years ago

no start lifiting, its about health not an amazing physic, you'll feel better and live longer, and who knows just maybe you'll get lean with a sick pack if your dedicated.

I also spent my entire 20s almost completely oblivious to lifting. I somehow believed it would require a huge amount of time and effort to get muscles (especially for a lanklet like me), I thought the more you trained the bigger you'd get so the big natty guys would train for hours on end every day and that if you stopped working out they would all disappear and you'd be back to square one again. However that's not it at all, you only need a few hours a week.

I really wish someone had told me to lift for even 25-30 minutes full body once a week, with progressive overload and that would be enough to switch on the "growth" signal in muscles and get a slow but linear increase in muscle size during all that time, ending up bigger than I probably could ever be now. Now what the hell could you do in 25 minutes - well obviously you could grow many times faster if you did multiple hours training a week. However my point is you would still be growing and growing and growing with very little time used up, and over the months and years, that would build to something major. Remember that people growing as fast as possible will also start hitting their natty limit at some point, while the slow and steady tortoise would just be slowly but surely getting there. It sure as hell beats dyel.

      This

Best explanation of the immense returns that come from just doing a little bit each day. Your body is an incredible machine and by feeding it any amount of the good stuff (i.e. workouts/wholesome food/ sunlight etc) it will turn a profit of a good health many times over.
Its up to you whether you drip feed it or shovel it by the bucket load.

    Its never too late.

You can find videos of geriatrics who could even get out of a chair that start strength training and a year later end up squating and deadlifting in the 200s.

Plebty of clinical studies have shown that while the bodies ability to build muscle slows as we age it doesnt stop or reverse provided the proper stimuli

Don't focus on the results, focus on the process. It's the process that matters. Good results make people happy for a day, but process makes people happy every day of their lives. If you don't focus on the process, you won't make it in anything.

How necessary is progressive overload bros? Obviously it's the idea situation, but how inferior is staying at the same weight and continuing to do 4x8reps with good form?

One reason I ask is that my limit for regular dumbbell curls is 35lbs. When I go to 40lbs, I inevitably develop forearm splints pretty quickly. I've taken long breaks, tried strengthening my wrists and forearms, used wrist wraps, etc. I know there are other options but just for curiosity's sake I'm wondering when my gains would end/fall off and it just becomes maintenance? Or would I still continue to gain indefinitely (over a period of a year, say) but just at a slower (50%?) rate?

      Anonymous

Your solution here should be either to figure out what's causing your forearm splints (bad form or whatever), or to find an alternative exercise that targets the same muscle group without give you issues.
Your body adapts to the stress placed on it, you won't really grow further if conditions all stay the same.

it's not too late to start but it's too late get like the "making it" kind of fantasy because realistically you're going to be like 33-35 before you have a physique that's impressive. You're the oldman at the party by then. You have maybe a couple years before you have to start taking chemicals to even keep what you have (It's not a bad thing). A lot of this board will try to sell you their fantasies and anime mentality that's so detached from reality you should consider it poison. You should avoid this place like the plague for fitness advice if you want to get fit and don't have a lot of time to fool around with pitfalls and memes.

      Anonymous

      >You're the oldman at the party by then.
That's result-oriented thinking. OP should just think about the process. The process will be having meaning in the day to day workouts, the good feelings, the slightly better body every day. It's all about the process, not the results. Process makes people truly happy. Results make people miserable, because they're never good enough for long.

        Anonymous

I'm not saying that to instill defeatism or anything just be realistic about your fantasies or goals at this point. Is pulling chicks like Zyzz at concerts possible anymore? "no" Is mogging every other dad at your kids school functions possible? "absolutely" . I feel like it's almost impossible to get into this without some kind of goal or fantasy in mind. If they actually liked doing it they probably would have done it by now.
