Firefighter is an excellent one, certainly top tier. It's male dominated, hang out with fellow fit white conservative men all day, a lot of off time to pursue interests and passions, literally paid to workout and save lives. Pic related is a little higher tier though, Helicopter Rescue Swimmer. We have all the pros of firefighter but get to actually jump in the water and save people often, hoisting people off cliffs every week, etc. and we have a rigorous selection with high attrition rate which sets up above other fields.

      >work long hours (like a slave)
      >female dominant field, historically feminine role (lmao)
      >will never be the top of your field (always be a doctor's b***h boy)
      >Trusts The Science™
      >Awful schedule leaves little time for gym or good meals

Nurse is a great job for homosexuals, it is by no means a job for virile fit males.

I personally have zero interest in dealing with fat fricks, elderly, junkies, or the potential hurt child, as well as no desire to suction mucus out of some vent patients trache or deal with any of the fluids.

I realize it’s very different but for a short while I worked on private ambulance and it made me give up on this completely. On a FD you’ll have actual downtime, depending on your city you could have an appropriate amount of calls or tons of them. The ambulance company I was with, century, it was horseshit. Call after call with patients I’m not certified to deal with (ALS, I’m BLS) and legit no down time. Call after call, stuck on the ambulance all day. Not that bad except it’s minimum 15 hour shifts without stopping and it’s ass. They also lied to me about that, said you’re only scheduled 8-12 hours and sometimes we give you the option to stay an extra 2 hours. Turns out the extra 2 hours is an extra 3-5 hours and it’s mandatory. This means with the shit pay you also have to work damn near 7 days a week to GET BY and your life is

If you do it avoid private ambulance altogether. But seriously look into it. I don’t like the medical part of it, my state rarely has fires and you have to be a paramedic to make a livable wage

and I legit want nothing to do with it anymore. Which sucks because I’ve been wasting my 20s trying to work towards getting into this career.

My volunteer department would be considered full with 25 people. We have 15 people and roughly 7 of them actually show up regularly. We're on the upper end of my area as far as recruitment goes. Your model doesn't work in reality and, at best, will just stretch an already thin resource even further. Also, they're all fat and get 2-3 fires a year that they save the basement at. There's a reason for that result.

I live in a city of 200,000 people, as many as are in your county apparently. My city has 60,000 total combined fire/EMS calls. The daily staffing is like 100+ firefighters/medics. The technical demand to operate a tower truck is way too high to find people willing to do it for free bro. I like my community but I’m not losing out on sleep for 25 years for free

Here in Germany we have 1 million firefighters and 93.5% of them are volunteers, plus the 280,000 junior firefighters (who also don't get paid). It seems to be working pretty well here.

It would certainly help, but I don't think any military selection does nearly as much grueling watercon stuff as we do. I've seen the underwater stuff they do in bud/s and pj/cct selection and it really is simplistic compared to what we did. Those selections are certainly grueling and you could make a case that they are harder in regards to suffering on land, the surf, etc. but you really have to be very very proficient at staying calm whilst oxygen depleted underwater over and over and over again with a very high heart rate. If you're strong in that area and very athletic, good at cardio, etc. you will likely do just fine.

Where I live, and I live in a conservative farm city, it's extremely difficult for white men to get hired on as they're going after minorities and women. The process is insane too. You have to start as an on-call fire fighter with no salary, and you're only picked to be one after years of community service and volunteering. People must know you and vogue for you. After some time, if people like you, and you click with everyone at the fire hall and the boss likes you, there's a chance you'll be hired on so you can make $32 an hour or whatever the shit wage is.

Same with police. To be a cop or firefighter in this country you either need to know someone who can pull strings for you, hope for a miracle or just be anything other than a white male. I get such a laugh out of people going to police or firefighting schools here; they pay $20k or more for a few month program knowing full well your chances of being hired on full time is like non existent. The police/fire college on PEI is fully aware that like 5 to 10% of a class will get a full time position.

The reality is most people who work in emergency services are in terrible shape and poor health.
Long shifts, stressful jobs, mandatory surprise overtime, etc leaves little time for meal prep or exercise off duty. You end up eating fast food for lunch or raiding the snack machine on your break.
Unless your department has fitness standards (which honestly wont be that hard) or are in some specialty like a SWAT team that has higher requirements, nearly every cop, firefighter, paramedic, EMT, and emergency room staff is or will soon become fat, out of shape, and develop all the usually health problems that go along with it.

I wont even mention all the obese b***hy dispatchers. That's an entirely different topic lol

Kinda sad that medical staff have some of the highest obesity. It should be reformed so they lead by example, and it's not exactly hard to fix when your workplace has a canteen that should provide healthy meals, ideally with macros displayed so people can count calories, get enough protein, etc to maintain fitness goals. I remember hearing nurses are the most obese group and I've seen plenty of overweight nurses.

    >maybe have a day off where yo I get nothing done due to burnout
If you do it avoid private ambulance altogether. But seriously look into it. I don’t like the medical part of it, my state rarely has fires and you have to be a paramedic to make a livable wage

      I feel the exact same
      >zero passion or interest in medicine
      >forced to run bullshit EMS calls just to get a chance at fighting a fire
Truly heartbreaking but your situation sounds much worse than mine, I was a fire volunteer instead of riding in an ambulance

I really wish I pursued this fresh out of highschool instead of starting at 23. I could have started with volly and gotten a true idea if I wanted it like I thought right away. My whole life would be different right now. Either way I’d be in any career and moved out by now, saving for a house. Now I’m 27 with no clue what I’m gonna do feeling butthurt about quitting and considering going to trade school. If my state was even 50% fires I’d still be pursuing it, probably on a department by now. I simply can’t justify pursuing a life I know I don’t want though.

Head up man it'll all work out. I started late too, I was 24 when I started trying to work towards being a firefighter and then covid hit so I didnt even get to do anything for a whole year with the volunteer department. You'll find something

      >Another thing I’ve noticed is there’s a super shitty culture in fire/EMS, it’s like highschool tier popularity contest bullshit.
yep. Every cop, firefighter etc has to constantly do the alpha male tough guy routine.
Its ok I guess when youre in your early 20s and want prove yourself to everyone but it gets tiresome after a few decades.
I mean some 40 year old cop with the tattoos, beer belly and noodle arms still playing "tough kid on the playground" is exhausting and cringe beyond belief.

Yeah man it’s one thing to come across it as a normal civilian, because after the situation is over you’ll forget about them but working with multiple of them? Frick that. In EMT school on a ride along I showed up like 40 minutes early and they had a fill in captain for the day. He was this classic middle aged balding obese pasty skinned Florida cuban/puerto rican guy (if you know you know) ignoring all the males on shift and trying to spit game at this fresh 20 year old EMT and do all he could to impress her. He used me to do that, screamed at me for being an responsible asswipe and sent me home because I wasn’t a full hour early. Week later at same department one of the people I was riding with remembered and at least told me they all hated that guy with a passion.

But I’ve seen that type of stuff on every department and even in school. It’s just another reason for me to find something else

You get exposed to a lot of PFOASes from the fire-moronant chemicals you work with
The good news is that donating blood dumps that crap out of you, and donating plasma helps even more
Hell, even therapeutic plasma apheresis (just suck out the plasma and dump it on the floor) might be a good idea. This was done, oddly enough, in a study with Australian firefighters.

does this work on microplastics? seems like it could work but I don't want my stem cells working harder than they have to either just to replace blood, there's a limit to those suckers

I am a firefighter. Most guys get out of shape and the exposure to carcinogenic materials and damage to your heart by fricked up circadian rhythm isn’t really IST but my 20s was legit just getting laid because of it

Being a pilot is up there. Crew rest and a general fitness culture leads to a ton of time to work out and get in shape.

Anyone saying "be a paramedic" in the US is absolute moron. Currently you need a 2 year degree to get a foot in the door and you're going to max out at $20/hrs unless you're lucky enough to find a gig with a local FD where all you do is ride rescue. Good luck getting one of those without being the Chief's favorite nephew or have a background in TacMed from GWOT.

Im in LE and we like to say "everyone loves a firefighter". I remember hearing fire captains in a midsized town talk about their boatS (plural) because they had so much money to throw around. Even the FF/medics were making the bux picking up a OT shift a week so they tragically only got 3 days off instead of four. FF is a great job if you can get it and they'll pay for you to get your medic later 90% of the time. Frick being a paramedic riding for a private Ambo service.

I hope you get raped and shot by a bunch of Blacks.
The only thing pigs and ff have in common are they both want to be firefighters.
Pigs only care about themselves and would never dare to put a corrupt pig corrupt judge or corrupt politician in jail.
I see you no differ then the Black person criminals you took a knee for.

      >t. ff

Why are you so pissy? He’s right. Everything he said is factual and if you’re FF you should know this. It’s a shit job with shit pay considering the work you do and it’s not even easy to get unless your father used to suck the chief off between calls and it’s even worse on private ambo. Taking OT on a FD is a way to make decent money.

Nothing he said is anything but true. Granted being a cop is arguably worse considering no one likes you and you could potentially die, plus you regularly deal with braindead entitled Black folk who think they deserve the world but can’t even see how useless they are, they’re not too different in money. A cop can do the bare minimum his entire career and then the last year take as much OT as possible and that’s what his pension is reflected on. *highest year salary of entire 20 years of service* for most places. But that’s besides the point. He never said being a cop is better and you are pissy. Why?

Because he's probably an EMT-B who couldn't pass the screening to be a cop and tells himself he's gonna make it on the FD once he loses the weight (four years running) (eats "roller food" from the gas station every lunch break).

AMR seems double edged. On one hand from what I’ve seen the volume is manageable but not so slow you’d be bored, on the other hand pay sucks and everything else that’s AMR. Oh well. Can’t be fricked to do anything in medicine anymore.

Should I return my uniform for the company I was at? The hiring manager was a c**t to me and lied to me in the interview about shit (I made a whole ass post closer to the top) and she’s been demanding my uniform back. Even if I’m no longer doing this I kinda like the windbreaker and hat

I'm a ff in Canada. I started off as a primary care paramedic(we don't have emt's in my province) and eventually became an advanced care paramedic and was offered f/t after 5 years of volunteering. Was also a med tech(combat medic) in cucknadian armed forces. Used to teach your glowies ITLS and PHTLS once upon a time and still btfo out of ERT(mountie swat) during medical exercises. I'm the original guy who was shit talking the pig and just for reference half my family is multi generation LEO. I just decided to go the other route.
