Is being a truck driver?

I have my CDL test Tuesday & am then going to the oilfields. What am I in for lads?

Probably not. You're sitting down for many hours a day away from a kitchen and a regular gym.

You'll need to be really autistic about meal prepping and find a good nationwide gym chain if you want to be a fit trucker.

But if you do manage to stay fit, you can decorate your truck to look like Mad Max and take some sweet pictures, like if pic related went on a cut

Lots of sitting, not much access to decent food.

Get a good cooler to store prep meals. Get into calisthenics or bring a kettlebell or something with you.

Why do tards keep saying "no decent food"? You know we have fridges and microwaves in the truck right? You know we can pull into any walmart, or even grocery stores or malls with high end markets? In my fridge in the truck:
      >turkey leg
      >2 lbs of wagyu beef patties
      >1 lbs sirloin steak
      >2 lbs ham steak
      >1 gallon whole milk
      >8oz Brie
      >1 lbs pork shoulder
      >quart of heavy whipping cream
I've got a Handy Gym for workouts, it's great.

What the fuck is a Handy Gym?

No, over the road trucking is just about the most unIST job there is. Sitting on your ass all day, driving 11 hours a day, no access to a gym or kitchen so you don't exercise and eat fast food or gas station slop for every single meal, high stress, dangerous, and no set sleep schedule.

You aren't even making good money doing it either.

      >You aren't even making good money doing it either.
Well that's not true. It is extremely unfit, but the lowest paid truckers I know only deliver within city limits and make 50k flat a year (no tax calculation). Some companies out there doing a single route, even though it's busy, make around 90k. The trucker I know that delivers in city for 50k doesn't do anything all day. He makes maybe one or two trips and then just fucks around all day. It's exceptional I'll give you that but my God- could you imagine?

    absolutely not
    >sitting on your ass 24/7
    >no sleep
    >no gym access
    >tons of truckers being on crack or meth just to stay up
    >no personal workout equipment whatsoever
    >no gym access
    >job itself can be dangerous
    >no way to get good food
honestly thought of trucking but now I think no way

No, it's one of the least fit jobs possible.
Sitting on your ass all day, lack of sleep, probably shit diet since you're on the road all the time.
And all the hardcore truckers use drugs to truck around more

Yeah I have my Tankers endorsement & plan on hauling fuel eventually. Most jobs require 1 Year experience so it’ll take a while

It goes by quick. I don’t know anything about oilfield personally, but anything specialized can make you a shit ton of money. Nothing like some fancy data scientist or tech job but I work for a load pay company and I have coworkers that are pulling almost 200k. However you won’t find that in most of the country. Only select locations.

Not sure the availability of getting good food in oil field locations, but more than likely you will be isolated and have to stock up on a bunch of healthy shit on your trips into town. OTR you just have to make an effort to avoid truckstops. Pull into Walmarts at like midnight and get all of the healthy food you need. Plan on getting one of those electric skillets. Watch some videos on YouTube but there are people that cook some very fancy things even living in a semi truck.

Who are you taking the training through? Did you go to an actual CDL school where you can get plenty of practice?

Yeah I’m going through a CDL school. The Skills portion of the test is the only thing holding me back. The pre trip & drive are the easy part

you didn't pay for the training right lmao, the company hiring you should pay for it.

You're retarded. I also paid for my CDL myself since I did not want to have any obligation to a company. The power to walk away is worth more to me than whatever the cost of a trucking license is in the US.

Just keep at it and keep going no matter what. I encountered challenges early on that often left me wanting to quit the industry and just give up. No matter how many fuck ups no matter how much shit you hit, just keep going. If you get fired go onto the next company one after the other just keep going.

I’m just under five years into this shit and it has paid off. I am making 150k plus and have a nice ass apartment next to a major university. Home every single day. There’s a nice gym just a couple blocks down the street.

Prior to CDL work, I was literally living in the parents basement and couldn’t hold down a job. Don’t get me wrong I’m still an autistic retard and get no pussy but this line of work set me up very well for a nice life.

average pay but maxing out your hours so it will seem like you are making good money, also probably a little bit of sodomy when you are stuck at the man camps. No time for anything except work.

70% of truck drivers are obese, with some studies believing it to be as high as 86%.

This. I have a bunch of friends who went into trucking as it’s easy money here. They’re all turning into fat fucks because they just eat pies and drink Monster to keep them awake.

get cdl b qualified, most drives are within at most a city or so away. Meaning you go home everyday, less pay but fuck living in a semi all day. All of the drivers i've met so far are fat asses or tiny old string beans.

You're going to get fat or skinny, and probably get paid like shit when you account for all the time you spend waiting for warehouses to load your truck.

Outside of a handful of employers and unions, trucking in the US is a job of last resort for a reason - you're basically a slave. It's not like the 60s or 70s.

most get paid hourly, so it doesn't matter if they fuck up the unload. Some semi drivers are hauling high priority shipments, so they get paid extra if they deliver it on time or early.

Truckers get paid pretty good here in New Zealand. We have a shortage of drivers so the companies have to compete and offer good packages for drivers to work for them. You do long hours which can suck if you aren’t into that, but the money is obviously good.
Problem is, because of all this, the prices of our goods for the average consumer is ridiculous. Combined with only two companies having a duopoly over supermarkets, this is why places like us are currently fucked.

Get a local trucking job. I haul shipping containers 4 days a week and have enough time to stay IST. Since I have to switch trailers so many times in a day I also stay decently active during my workdays. Don't fall for the OTR meme since you WILL gain 100lbs.

    >being a truck driver
    >spend 14 hours a day working
    >11 of those hours behind the wheel
    >never get any exercise unless you're doing it on your 10 hour break
    >choose between 10 hours of sleep or other tasks you need to get done like laundry, eating, exercise, etc
    >worked like a slave until you burn out
    >truck stops have shit food, just garbage abounds
there's a reason a good portion of truckers are fat, and it's not genetics. you get erratic sleep, you eat shit food, and you're sedentary for a lot longer than any human should be without any recourse. at least that was my experience doing otr for a year. would not recommend it.

isn't shitting yourself a constant worry for otr truckers too? like you're stuck in traffic and have diarrhea from the goyslop. it could happen to anyone but the risk is 100x higher when you're driving 12 hours a day every day.
