    Might get into it
    Don't really know how though
Like i don't really live near forests
And i don't know if it's legal for me to just go and kill some beasts with an arrow like some prehistoric homie

You need a hunting license and there's a specific season when you're allowed to hunt specific animals, in most places.

Alot of places have pest animals you can hunt year round. Some places have a draw weight minimum on bows though usually around 50lbs which isn't a lot especially for a compound bow but people should keep it in mind if they buy a bow and intend to hunt with it.

    It's pretty good. That said
    upper body strength and precision
Hunting compounds typically have 80-90% let off, you aren't holding shit after the initial draw. Better get a reflex if you actually want upper body strength from a bow.
barely feel pain from clean bow kills, unlike bullet kills
There's zero difference between a bullet and an arrow if the shot was clean, except arrows may result in a faster blood loss. If the shot wasn't clean, an animal that has an arrow stuck in its body will suffer a lot more than one with a bullet or a pass through. Not to mention bows have a higher failure rate.

I don’t think OP actually bow hunts, anon. He probably made this thread because he’s playing the new Zelda game.

Archery has been part of the Olympics for more than a hundred years so it’s a sport no matter what your moronic definition of a sport is

            Anonymous

Do you know what type of moronic shit is in the Olympics? And in your mind this is supposed to be an important factor? Regardless only a very very few people who shoot bows go down this moronic "competition" route.

You can't be the real deal if you are shooting a how with a shelf. Also should be at least around 60lbs at the least. Even a knocking point is pushing it imho

Bow hunting is worse on the animal than a gun. I mean I don't really care but alot of time if you shoot something small with a gun it dies instantly or nearly so. Even something big bleeds out fairly fast- with a bow that isn't the case. I shot a rabbit last week from about 25ish yards and the arrow just skewered him- eventually had to finish him off with the gun just out of mercy. So no the bow is 100% more hard on the animal (which is not a problem or anything but still)

Also a modern compound bow is closer to a crossbow than an actual bow. String release, sights, the power and ability to rest in a valley sort of makes is like a cheaters bow. I mean why not just use a gun at that point lol?

crossbow hunting sounds cool, isn't being silent a plus?

If you're trying to avoid dnr maybe lol. Which is a fair point.. But no when you take the shot whatever youre trying to shoot is going to scatter anyways I mean you may as well be shooting a gun.

The reason to hunt with a bow is to make more of a challenge and honestly to make it more fair I mean a gun/crossbow (and to a lesser degree a compound bow) are basically just point and kill I mean it just seems sort of unsportsmanlike to me ultimately. Also using a real bow makes successes more rewarding I mean where is the reward with a point and shoot sort of deal? Some things like dove, duck, etc you don't have an option though I guess.

makes sense. I know some hunters but they all use guns exclusively, they don't really do it for the challenge though but more as a hobby and to get meat to make sausages and stuff. In my area it's not really perceived as a sport I think

Try hunting turkey with a compound bow and tell me that it is "just the same" as a crossbow.

Compared to a recurve it literally is about the same.

No it is total nonsense a bow kill is usually quite a bit worse on the animal.

Arrows carry a fraction of the energy of any bullet which makes quick and humane kills almost trivial

        Anonymous

With a bullet you get this massive heavy-trauma wound channel and shock, with a bow you are just trying to slice through and cause bleeding. Especially with bigger animals unless you have a perfect shot you are probably going to be looking for the blood trail until it bleeds out which happens with guns alot too but it never takes as long.

Yes a compound bow is basically a crossbow. But camo is fine especially with turkey hunting it is basically necessary. With a bow you have to be in fairly close so the camo is actually more important for some animals.

no it doesn't all the dyel fatties at my work bow hunt in the fall and they're all dyel

Yeah it is mostly technique especially with a compound bow. Now traditional is going to require quite a bit more tequnique and you are going to be alot more effective with a stronger bow so a stronger upper body actually comes into play.

barely feel pain from clean bow kills, unlike bullet kills
Reality i exactly the opposite, anon. Bullet causes hydrobaric shock, killing faster, most of the time the animals don't even realize what happened. Bow kills by severing blood vessels and puncturing organs, it is almost never instantaneous, and a lot of the time game runs off with an arrow in them. You don't sound like you ever hunted, definitely check it out, talk to hunters, read up, etc. It is worth it

Bow hunting requires more lower body and posterior chain endurance and strength because you're climbing ridges at 9-12k ft. Unless you're sitting in a deer stand which is gay af. Hunting Mule Deer and Elk are a lot more physically demanding. Packing out the meat is also physically taxing because you're going to be carrying 120-150 lb of meat on your back for at least 4 trips if you're solo. And depending on how far back you're hunting it may be impossible if you're out of shape or mentally weak.

Bow hunting is really ideal for heavy brush hardwood forests. Funny how in your mind the two options are climbing a mountain and sitting in a stand. All this prairie and mountain type hunting really isn't ideal for archery. In fact in a heavy brush environment even with a gun you will probably never shoot much farther than 50 yard.

What’s the deal with hunters nowadays? They know fully well that they can be in fully orange to make sure other hunters don’t shoot them but they still wear full camo.

Well not everyone hunts on public land and some animals actually require camo (like turkey).
