    Sorta fasting eats more lean mass the leaner you are. If you're 20% body fat you're and only 150 lbs you're going to lose about 10 lbs then it's going to start making you look like a holocaust survivor and not the pretty lean and evenly muscled twink you're picturing in your head. You're better off starting with a fast to lose 5-8 lbs of the easy metabolized fat. Then hopping on a normal -1 lb/week diet with higher protein and working out. Until you're down another 8-10 lbs. Then a -0.75 lb/week until you're down another 5 then a -0.5 lb/week just gradually decreasing the rate of weightloss as you get leaner which will in addition to sparing muscle also make the diet easier to stick to as it gets harder.

      There are two options as a skinny fat.
      Lift till you make it, which is the long plan and will look the best.
      Fast, then lift. As poster said the leaner you get the more muscle you lose, so a large initial cut+taper would make more sense.

      Hardcore fasts end up with you not wanting to do anything, which is fine if you are mukbang tier fat, but otherwise you should have enough energy to lift, and that requires some food.

      I have fasted 1/2lb a day and it get's pretty miserable. Worst part is you feel super weak.

    If you have a high bf% then maybe. I fasted on and off from 32% bf to 20ish% while hitting the weights. Then I ate high protein but kept calories under 1000 and tried to burn an additional 500 a day and now I'm around 15% and I feel I was able to maintain the little muscle I had from when I started.

    Really sucks though and wouldn't do it if I wasn't on stimulants

He didn't work with enough weight and he didn't have a large enough surplus to build muscle. 8-10 of fat is not much moron-san that's a month cut for most people with discipline.     No, fasting is the fast road to skinnyfat city. While fasting, you're not growing any muscle or even holding onto muscle, so your muscles are getting smaller. At the same time, you are more likely to put on weight from the extra stress when you actually do eat. It's better to just have a moderate deficit while getting enough protein and carbs to retain or grow muscle.

    do this for 1-2 months, by now you should be at respectable bf% (unless you were a real fatass)
    Then eat at maintenance for 3 weeks, then lean bulk 6 months
    then do slight deficit again

    If you do this correctly it will work. If you do it moronicly then it won't
