Causes massive imbalance and is just "make light shine first" instead of actual practical fencing

      Anonymous

      >practical fencing
You’re right about the imbalances tho. Just lift and you’ll be fine. And you’re actually stupid if you think it’s as reductive as make light go on first. That’s like saying soccer is make ball go in net. If you aren’t shit at the sport, you know that it’s more complicated than that. But being shit and being stupid is to be expected from someone who says and believes in ”practical fencing”

        >make ball go in net
Exactly, it's fun but stupid and impractical.
Almost every fighting "sport" is better in every conceivable way than "make light go" and "ball in net" games.
I'm sorry you chose to be really good at nothing that actually matters.

HEMA is cool too, just got to worry about finding a good school. Good workout if you find a place you can fence against people that are actually fit

Armored HEMA combat is the IST approved playground any other form of HEMA combat is just larping.

What about blossfechten is just larping? It might come back to the school/club you go to. I've done both harnisch and bloss and they'll both wear your ass out. Fighting in armor ends up in wrestling a lot but some unarmored stuff also goes to wrestling often. Especially when it comes to shit like messer or dagger

nta but if you aren't following the manual exactly its basically just larping and I feel that happens a lot.

That's kinda a weird take but i can understand it from that view. I see hema as a martial art where you are learning to fight with different weapons. We've got a lot of manuals and we do study&practice plays out of them, but when it comes to sparring a lot of techs work with different swords with similar profiles. Sure you use a messer and a side sword differently at times but you still end up going into a bogen type guard to defend an overhead strike and quickly counter attack with both often enough.

              >I see hema as a martial art where you are learning to fight with different weapons
I agree with everything else but this. "hema" should just be the historical use of the weapons and how to fight against that use. Otherwise, yeah, I agree and try to train like its always a deathmatch with weapons, and those usually look similar.

i love hema but it's infested with fat c**ts larpers and it's the weapon based ma equivalent of bjj.
best hema fencers all have a bg in sport fencing btw, dudes show up never having held a longsword and fricking people up who've been training in "muh fiore" or "muh lichtenauer" for 10+ years and make them seethe to no end.

the fact that one of the moves is "just grab his sword and stab him lol" shows how useless all these are
when you try to do all this fancy shit instead of just fricking hitting him you don't have any momentum and can't get through even light padding.

          yes.
Imagine if in the future people will say americans clearly knew about healthy eating way more than the people in the future simply because they americans lived at the time
          your logic is absolutely moronic.

They people who won the duels didn't read these gay manuals, they learned from fighting and training. Anyone can make up some bullshit to write and then try to sell it to some dumbass and then have morons in the future see it and go "look! everybody did this!"

"all that fancy shit doesn't work, just fricking hit him" used to "proven" by early UFC shows, until it was disproven by later ones. Gentlemen in that time actually realistically faced the possibility of fighting in a sword duel. Their whole function in society was as the backbone of the military. You moderngays who probably live in places where you can be jailed for punching someone think you know better for what reason, exactly?

I doubt the guy writing manuals and trying to peddle them to naive princes was ever in a duel. The guys who were in duels would be hired to show people how to fight in person.
