Is going hard at the gym everyday for months on end making me chemically depressed?

Is going hard at the gym everyday for months on end making me chemically depressed?

My body adapted but sometimes I feel like I'm headed for an existential crisis. Am I using up my serotonin with this whole no rest day shit?

Serotonin is not linked to depression at all, a new study has found.

      Anonymous

It's suspected it's downstream metabolites and processes that actually causes SSRIs to improve depression, but yeah serotonin itself isn't what causes or fixes depression

  5. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

Yes that is highly likely. It does not affect your serotonin. It affects your cortisol and testosterone. Overworking your self like that boosts your cortisol, which means you are getting stressed out, the cortisol then kills your test levels. And yeah that feels absolutely fricking horrible and indeed i can see your existential crisis coming. You need a week or two off.

your image is literally depicting increasingly recessive problematic genes as you go up the pyramid. There's a reason blue eyed people or people who carry a blue eyed gene with incomplete dominance tend to have awful eyesight, astigmatism, glaucoma, and shit sensitivity to light. When you have highly recessive genes allowing for blue/hazel/green eyes to occur, you can be sure there is the potential for other recessive genes and traits to be present and causing problems

Not having any rest or recovery will frick you hormonally from a constant overflow of stress hormones. Take a rest day once or twice a week anon, and deload every 6-8 weeks or so. You'll feel better and get better gains

Just take a break, you don't actually lose gains

  27. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

It can, a lot of weightlifters I know always get "cyclical" depression near the end of a training block when you hit max fatigue accumulation right before deload

Take two weeks off the gym entirely, try to sleep and eat as well as you can, and start back slow when you get back. Going hard 100% of the time no breaks is a great way to get injured and burn out, you make way more progress long term by taking breaks

All my relatives. 5 cousins, aunts, uncles, grandpa have blue eyes on my mothers side. One of them is a drug addict (I feel terrible and want to help him). c**t lives in ireland. I work out every day and there's no reason it would make you depressed, but being tired all the time will have the same symptoms as depression. You'll feel sluggish, demotivated, unable to do other things etc... It's the stress from working out and your body having constantly elevated cortisol and inflammation levels that can lead to burnout. I work out 30 days a month lately, but I have adapted to it over 9 years, and have the chillest work from home job on earth, which means I can afford to train like it's my job with no stress when I get home.

If you use preworkout, you probably also feel the crash after it wears off and have lower energy for the rest of your day.
