Was the oil recycled about 50 times before it was used in this dish?

        Anonymous

That's not oil on top it's the sweet and sour sauce. I don't recycle oil since I only use 1 spoon a day.

You can learn to cook anon, I taught myself as an adult. Just ignore all zoomer cooking content and study like you were trying to be a european chef and youll learn all the important stuff

How do you learn to cook for real? I usually either just follow the recipe or measure and throw everything in a pan.

Start with getting really good at 2-3 dishes, anon. That'll teach you things like proper temperature control and how to spice food appropriately.
Start with a slow-cooked dish like a stew, maybe a marinated meat with some rice. Stay away from frying foods for now, it's a whole other beast. Learn how to properly chop vegetables (mostly onion).
Probably a better question for IST, but their advice can be a bit esoteric.

I typed something out but it came off as pretentious. Just learn the concepts rather than trying to memorize as many recipes as possible. Advice from my last post is the most important: ignore zoomer content, aquire restaurant knowledge. Home cook books are stupid.

Home cooks books do seem dumb, my mom has a bunch but none of them even list calories or anything.

Not only are they dumb but some are outright shit. Quite a few advertise themselves as simple while requiring stupid and expensive ingredients for dishes that taste like shit, and rarely do they offer any practical advice. Picrel is the worst I've encountered.
Best cookbook I own is Joy of Cooking (1950s) or America's Test Kitchen.

Cooking is 90% about being able to follow instructions. That's what recipes are.

People who don't have that basic part down should not be trying to experiment with their own dishes

I've cooked many dishes based on ideas I got from fit, and they were always fricking delectable. Do I have really low standards or am I a natural born cook?
Only dish that wasn't really good I made was a cake I made which was unironically salty because of a dumb mistake I'm way too ESL to explain.

Yeah and you doused it in 4 oz of oil, so another 1000 calories

I didn't though? I used one spoon of oil to put under the meat and onions, the sauce you see on top is sweet and sour sauce, it's just tomato sauce, pineapple, ginger and a bit of sugar, it's only 200 calories.

What's wrong with eating 0.5kg of mushroom in one sitting? It's tasty, low calorie, filling and healthy. Take the fungus pill and become a shrigma pilled chad dude.

90% of those 135g protein come from the the 300g of chicken breast. You could have the same macros for 1/3 of the calories if you simply ate the chicken breast, veggies and a bit of potatoes/rice instead of that sneed oil legume abomination you listed

Yeah but the sweet and sour sauce tastes good and is only 200 calories. I guess I could eat chicken breast and rice plain but why would I want to when I can enjoy my meal and still hit my calorie and macro goals. Plus the vegetables add fiber and vitamins.

No, I like corn, it is just almost nonexistent in any real Chinese food. OP's choice of ingredients looks like he went to a stop and shop.

OP here, aside from the "chinese" recipe I also regularly make homemade gyros plates.
      >400g french fries
      >300g cabbage
      >100g onion
      >200g cucumber
      >160g sour cream
      >300g chicken breast
      >1 tablespoon of oil
      1. cook the chicken with the oil and add seasoning you want(recommend gyros seasoning) you can cook the onions with it or leave it raw for the salad
      2. cook french fries(oven or air fryer)
      3. measure out sour cream and shred 100g of cucumber into it then add tzatziki powder to taste
      4. plate it

You can get a pretty decent one for 70 bucks, although you can also just use an oven it's kind of the same thing.
