No, enjoy it while it lasts and use it to get ahead in your career and hobbies.

Do volunteer work in an area you'd want your gf to be interested in.

Gym work vidya and fricking girls is mostly what life is about for men. Maybe add in playing with your dogs or doing fun shit with friends. Life really isn’t that complicated anon.

yep. you gotta spend at least one third of each day browsing anime imageboards for Gems. otherwise, as you Suspect, you’ve got absolutely no Fricking life!

hobbies and interests don't always have to go hand-in-hand. you can branch some hobbies into others. for instance, a weightlifting/fitness hobby might include a bi-monthly bike ride or a hike. the hiking might develop into a camping trip from time to time. a strict interest might be keeping up with the politics of your country and being well-informed. maybe you're big into music and want to learn an instrument.

is it a problem that all you care about is lifting and vidya? not if you have something to show for it. if those are your only two hobbies then you better be jacked and great at whatever you play. will other people appreciate your "skills" at vidya? probably not but then that gets into the conversation of whether or not some hobbies/interests are superior, more marketable than others.

    >is it bad that i don’t have a life outside of gym and work and video games?
Yes. 95-99% of what matters in life is building meaningful relationships. You aren't expected to 100% give up routine pleasures like video games to service that goal, but in your case you probably should give up games or at least bargained out a timeline with yourself by which you will have stopped playing. Become more social, and figure out how to keep building your life. Who the hell is going to stick around you in your 40s? You 60s? Your 80s? Friends don't just happen. Women don't just happen.

Honestly, the world is fricking sick. Our parents and our home culture should have set us up for life success, and instead we were told distracting ourselves from this golden path is just a personality preference.

What if video games is how I stay in touch with friends? I don't play alone, most of my friends I wouldn't even have if it weren't for games.

Interested to hear what you consider to be a "proper" hobby, or is what you mean to say is, an "Instagrammable" hobby?

        Anonymous

A proper hobby is one where you can develop some skill or you're able to interact with other people, for example. Vidya is a waste of time most of the time (so are most of movies and books too), vidya time (as much as any entertainment) should be like a medicine, short and just in time

That's a poor definition since that would include video games where you interact with other players, while also developing skills at playing the video game, just like playing one sport has the same results. I think you're just another soulless, Godless npc by saying entertainment is bad.

Ive never been good at making friends, and im in my 30s now

I cant imagine starting now to make friends.

It would be like level 60s randomly deciding to help me at level 10 get all the way to level 60, and get geared, and be on their level. Its not happening. The other level 60s are only interested in socialising with other level 60s, they dont have the care, time, patience or understanding to give a frick about helping some no-hoper whose been unable to find his way out of Elwynn Forest, what exactly do they benefit from this? Nothing at all.... and thats what friends are, you benefit each other, so I have nothing to offer or benefit anyway

      >sleep less
Yeah I started sleeping 5 hours a night to cope with losing ten hours a day to Shekelstein and after six months I felt numb to reality and nothing feels real anymore, I forget things alot and my creative spark is gone..I also keep having dreams about these two buildings I've never been to and I can't remember what they correspond to in real life. It's driving me nuts. I also often fall asleep for like ten minutes then wake up suddenly then fall back to sleep. Also sometimes lucid dreams. Including being at my computer when suddenly the power goes out and my LCD clock starts flashing impossible symbols. Or I'm in a forest in a tunnel of trees like the scene in Lord of the Rings where they are hiding from the ringwraiths, but more claustrophobic, and there's tons of wind and screaming and suddenly I wake up with myclonic jerk..pretty sure I've doomed myself to early onset Alzheimer's at this point. I'd try to sleep more but that's 3 more hours of my life gone to shekelstein. Oh well. I knew it was over once I started working full-time. Probably will rope by 35.

your brain is actually becoming mush in real time

No matter what job I get I'll be coping with being shekelsteins slave and time just flying by. The damage is already permanent. I will never be the same.

your brain is actually becoming mush in real time

you're not gonna survive on 5 hours. bump it up to 7 and get a different job

Yeah it's too late I'll never have my old mind back. I'll probably crash and return to neetdom.in a few months after I use up my vacation time. But no matter what I'll always have to be a full-time wagie unless I move in with my friend who lives with 2 trannies and doesn't have a car and works 20 hrs a week at a grocery store and walks to work there.

You're doing just fine, OP. Yeah, maybe your life isn't optimal, but you're also doing a lot right. You're making money and taking care of your health. That's a million miles better than being a fat, lazy, unemployed stoner.

Your whole life can't be a grind, play some vidya if you enjoy it, but also, at some point, maybe try to develop some friendships IRL if you can...

I think the best measurement of whether a hobby is worthwhile is whether you are consuming or creating. Playing vidya is consuming. Amateur game dev is creating. Being “into tech” i.e. just reading HN articles and comments is consuming. Working on a side project is creating.

    t. spend all my free time playing vidya and browsing tech articles. I hate it.

      >Amateur game dev is creating
Yeah, creating something that no one will ever play.

I'd say it's more gratifying but I've done art for 6 years and it really just feels like playing a video game or anything like that, when you're done with it there's nothing left. I can't say I'm a better person because I spent years doing art, there's no difference between me and the next guy on the street, also 0 confidence still.

No do whatever you feel happy and comfortable doing because you only live once. People telling you that you need more than contentment are very unhappy.

OP i think i recognise that chick. i matched her on tinder. she's from UK around Norfolk/Norwich right? if it's the chick i'm thinking of she's a massive slag. i added her on snapchat and got her doing all sort of dirty things for me and saying she was a useless prostitute and she would let me use her body any way i want. like real degrading stuff you get the idea. If you're going for the smash, do it. But don't EVER catch feels for her or wife her up.
