    Sure, it's possible to build muscle even if you drink a dozen beers a day, it's about CICO and protein intake paired with a solid lifting plan and giving maximal effort, having a drink doesn't magically stop anabolism.

    It's a sliding scale. I've built muscle over the last year and a half and at the start of it I was basically a functioning alcoholic. I would drink every day at least 1 beer but most of the time 3-4.

    Over time it gets in the way. Recovery is poor so you need to take longer between muscle groups. There are numerous studies pointing to the effects of alcohol on protein synthesis, and especially now I'm on a cut, alcohol calories are completely non functional and in the way.

    I drink on the weekends because I'm still degen but I've cut the weekday drinking out now and I'm having almost a second noob gains phase which is nice.

    From one degenerate to another, don't let the alcohol drinking stop you from getting a workout in. Once you start making gains, you'll get hooked, and once you start seeing them slow, you'll look to optimise.

    Thank you 2pl8 bench for stopping me from getting liver disease in the next decade.

      Of course you were functioning, you were only having a few beers. I'm glad you overcame your unhealthy habit, but I don't think 1 to 4 beers a day qualifies as alcoholism.

    <2 beers has negligible effects of mens health. >6 has a small impact on protein synthesis. So long as you dont form a habit you are fine. As other anons ITT have said it is gets worse over time with heavy drinking. Just keep it under control and you are fine. People who say that you should only drink socially are unironically doing more damage to their health than drinking one beer a day: binge drinking is far worse for you than consistent moderate drinking
