Is it so bad if I do machine only workouts?

Is it so bad if I do machine only workouts? My social anxiety and no confidence in my form will not allow me to go to the free weights section. There’s machines for every body part at my gym

I just want to gain muscle after yrs of an anorexia tier diet so my tdee can increase

I want to grow my glutes too so maybe I’ll go to the corner and do kettlebell stuff

Just become the "kettlebell and bench press" guy. I'm the "2hrs on the treadmill and lifts in sets of 25" guy. Do what makes you happy but make sure it makes you happy.

      ok

      Machine Chads stay winning.
Focus on the stretch and squeeze for dat dere mind muscle connection, get your calories and sleep in.
Aim to increase weight or reps the next week.
Start with whole body X3 a week
Then go to upper/lower 4 day
      Then PPL
      You will grow.

do you have any resources for well designed machine workouts?

Yeah you're going to stay tiny forever don't really care though. Not my problem.

Why though? There’s progressive overload happening if i increase weight over time

      >go to the free weight section
      >run into me
      >I say homophobic things to you and teach you how to lift
      >we have a good time
      >turns out free weight section guys are very friendly, and lean very far right
      >you now love lifting
In another life I would have loved doing squats and power cleans with you

I’m a woman so this would never happen

        >why though
idk, it's just the reality of the situation. I have never seen a machine only lifter get big
(Pro bodybuilders don't count, they are on enough drugs that they barely even count as the same species as you)

it doesn’t make sense though. there has to be science behind this if true because how can someone get stronger on the machines but not gain any muscle

          >I’m a woman
Then you can stop being anxious. You get an automatic pass on lifting like a 'tard.
You can ask literally any guy there who looks like he knows what he is doing, and chances are he'll be more than happy to teach you more than you asked for.

          I cant

I feel like all eyes are on me judging and become so self conscious even though mentally ik nobody cares

I learned how to do hyperextensions from a woman in full contemporary gym thot uniform the other day. She probably thought I was goofy as frick, asking to work in and for advice while drenched in chalk from squatting earlier. That doesn't matter, knowledge is knowledge, I trust the women in lifted yoga pants to hold esoteric knowledge on ass-centric lifts, so I went for it.

Well that's up to you. The experience I described isn't reliant on gender.
We could be gymbros. We could have good times and memories that'll last forever.

    >Is it so bad if I do machine only workouts?
No. I started out on machines only, for the first few months simply because I didn't know any better and the "trainer" that gave me my introduction when I started lifting told me to avoid free weights (along with other hilarious advice like avoid warmups, only to 1x8 on every exercise)

Focus on compound machines like chest press, rowing, shoulder press, lat pulldowns, etc.

But trust me after a while you will feel the itch to go to the freeweights. After a couple of months I started doing DB bench press, then squats, then Deadlifts.

Now I'm 50/50 between free weights and machines,

Its ok. I use smith machine for almost everything since my gym doesn't have free weights section. I would use the free weights if they had it, but machines are better than nothing. You can still look like you lift. but again free weights are better in every way and you have them at your gym so might as well nut up and use them.

Yeah it's fine. Most of the barbell exercises you can find a substitute on a smith machine, or other machines.
Key is to focus on mmc/muscle tension, and go to failure since that's the best part about machines. You can safely go all out and not have to worry too much.

The people you interact with at the gym won’t remember you 15 minutes after you leave their field of vision. Why care so much about what anyone else thinks?

because social anxiety is mental illness. It’s not rational

Why is it seen as inferior and a waste of time tho

Absolutely. A machine workout is better than no workout. Keep hitting the 'chines and pretty soon you will be confident enough to use free weights.

You can gain just as much muscle with machines and there is much less chance of injury. Perfect for neophytes.
