A lot of judo shit is just greco-roman with foot sweeps and cloth grabs.

Yes. Striking 'arts' are okay, however I'd take being punched in the face anytime over being thrown and hitting both my head, blowing out my back and knocking the wind of me.

That's why you exercise and strengthen your body in order to not have that shit happen to you, DYEL spotted.

a PPL routine isn't going to prevent you from getting hurt after being thrown on your back from 6 feet

You learn a lot in Judo especially the art of breaking a fall and shit like that will help you in your chances of survival.

i fricking hate language, what does this statement even mean. the "best" martial art, what does that even entail, being the "best" at something, or something being the "best" in its category. will judo make you a better grappler, yes. Will it make you good at doing judo within a judo ruleset, yes but what kind of stupid fricking question is this. I'm assuming you mean best in the context of a street fight, in which case that question is fricking impossible to answer, a street fight has so many moving variables that one martial art making you better at defending yourself is just a matter of the situation you're in. Will it be easier to trash people outside of a pub when you know judo, undoubtedly yes, but does that make it the best martial art when you could do the same with muay thai or fricking hapkido. what happens if you challenge a freestyle wrestler to a street fight and he russian arm ties you into a single leg, because of the FRICKING IJF, you have no idea what to do and you lose, does this make freestyle better than judo for street fights??? NO because the circumstances could've easily led to an outcome where you fricking seoi nage the guy into the cold hard concrete since he had no idea what to do when you got a hold of his jacket. if you want to get better at street fighting, go and challenge people outside of a fricking supermarket and get your shit kicked in, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY stop making stupid fricking threads like these.

Best martial art = Art that prepares you for an actual fight, most likely 1v1 setting where you just need to defend yourself enough to get the frick out after the conflict.

self defense isn't the only reason people do martial arts. It isn't even the biggest one, most people do them for fun, to get in shape, or to compete.

The question was which one was the best and I stated a reason, martial arts purpose is mainly self defense, self-improvement and competition.

almost all martial arts do this, are all martial arts the "best" then? can the statement "boxing is the best martial art" and "bjj is the best martial art" coexist? no, because the best implies being at the top of the category it is in. If anything your statement should act like a baseline for what a martial art should allow you to do.

        hey, cry about it

The one that gets you out of that problem with LEAST amount of injuries due theory if you need further moving of the goalpost.

Either way there's a split between Martial Arts, Combat Sports and Combatives.

Combatives: About being the aggressor towards the enemy or target in a situation.

Combat Sport: 1v1 or team regulated fights between trained athletes of similar degree in experience or rank.

Martial Arts: Self Defense, Self Improvement, Competition within a closed circle usually or cultural exchange with agreed upon rules, not as strict as combat sports. Usually has a lot of self-imposed beliefs and philosophies that influence the theory of the martial art and make it different from the rest.

I am fine with this if it's amended to
"The one that gets you out of that problem with LEAST amount of injuries in situation x is the best martial art for situation x"

if you couldn't tell i am literally autistic, thank you

The goal in self defense is to actually be on offense.

In order to neutralize the attack being done to you, correct, best defense is best offense. However for legal reasons, don't be the dick that strikes first unless threatened with physical and verbal actions.

If you like it then it's a pretty good choice. You might like others more. If you try it and you're not satisfied then try another one. If you don't want to try another one then don't. It's really that simple

it favors short, slightly fat men with an emphasis on strength, so it's the most IST martial art for certain
