is picrel enough to carry me for the first 1-2 years of training?

is picrel enough to carry me for the first 1-2 years of training? I don't have space for barbell stuff and I don't want to go to the gym (the ones close to me are full of cardio bunnies and people who only go to socialize).

You'll need a pull up bar for sure.

Either pull up bar or rings if you can set em up, dip bar is also good investment for learning handstands, dips and planches well.

Buy gymnastic rings and go outside. Find a sturdy tree trunk or a park with bars. Honestly it's all you need. You can build a great physique and strength with gymnastic rings alone. It'll just take more time and more planning.

just buy rings, you can do a full workout with them:
        back: pull ups, rows
        chest: dips, ring push ups
biceps: straight arm fly, pelican pushup
triceps: overhead triceps extension (just lean on your body weight)
        shoulder: ring face pull

No moron. Go to a real gym and stop being scared of pretty girls. Every person I know that started with caiisthenics or a half-assed home gym setup regrets how many gains they missed out on in their early years of lifting. A gym actually has everything you could possibly need as a beginner, and allows you to try out different exercises, weights, routines, machines, etc that you won't get from this. Please for the love of god just find the courage to touch grass and actually take this seriously.

you can get pretty good gains on these but the fact is you are wasting your time compared to real barbell training. in those 2 years you will do 3 months of work.

      Anonymous

can you elaborate, please? I'll get the expansions next month so that'll be 90lb in each hand, are you sure a noob is supposed to be lifting more that 180lb in his first year?

        Anonymous

on deadlifts and squats, yes. and you can hit over that on bench in 1 year. you will have shit leg and core development and will get gains slower because you are making accessory exercises your primary exercise. its just a waste of time.

          >giant pain the ass
I understand it can be inconvenient, but is it a "waste of time" like claims? right now, I don't have the space nor the money for all the stuff needed for barbell work, it's either bench+dumbbells+callisthenics or callisthenics only

i mean you are lifting weights but you will probably hit a point for the main lifts squat/bench/deadlift are lagging when you could much easier add weight, get into position and not tire yourself out lugging two head dumbbells around your room

they aren't a bad thing if you just want to lift weights at home but I am going to join a gym soon because i feel like i hit a wall on progression for the main lifts.

            >but is it a "waste of time"
It's not a total waste of time, but you'll never progress to a level you could have hit in a few months with a barbell.
If you don't have space for a rack, you can do some of the more obscure barbell lifts like zercher squats, barbell hack squats, or barbell leg press. All of those can be done without a rack.

              Anonymous

Not barbell leg press, I meant Jefferson squats.
You would need a rack or a smith machine for barbell leg press.

I did the same setup and you quickly hit a point where getting into position with 45+ pound dumbbells for the different lifts is a giant pain the ass

An exercise bike is the better bet. Preferably one that looks like it has a real chair built in. If not just a basic one. The chair ones you can go longer without your ass hurting.

This + Calisthenics + Cardio has gotten me though the last 3 years. It's a good setup.

Maybe get a pullup bard and some bands, but this is a fundamentally great base.

This plus a pullup bar and rings can get you pretty fricking far. My home gym is this, rings, some good quality bands and a few kettlebells, and it works just fine. Calisthenics is your friend.
The only things you can't do is heavy BB stuff (obv).

Why do gymnastics gays seethe so much when you call them out for being manlets. I used to work with one at this seafood restaurant in my twenties. Dude only ever talked about gymnastics and every time you pointed out that they look like homosexual figure skaters during their routine his face would literally turn purple and he would have to go in the back to avoid manletraging in front of customers. Whenever he would simmer down we would pat him on the top of the head and say "are you doin okay buddy?"

No go to a real gym if only girls and boomers go that’s even better because the free weights will be always open and you might meet a little cutie (I’ve been going to the gym for 7 years and can count the amount of interactions I’ve had at the gym on one hand)

Thats fine. Grab a good pull-up bar and some decent bands when the barbells become too easy. That will give you more resistance through the mid and upper end of your exercises.
Idgaf what people say about bands you can get some brutal resistance added in if you are smart with them and they are cheap.

if going to the gym is too hard for you, you will never make it no matter what overpriced equipment you buy
