I heard some Planet Fitness gyms went rogue and deactivated the lunk alarms.

Mine certainly has. It’s run by a bunch of bros and I haven’t seen that shit go off on like 4 years lol. It’s just a normie gym now.
The thing about PF though is that it’s where all the girls go. You’re not gonna see any eye candy at a Powerhouse

There's a downs kid at ours who likes setting it off. Not sure if staff is being nice about it or not but he literally "REEEEEES" until it goes off at least every 3 minutes.

It would have been a legendary IST prank back in the old days
        >invite Downs syndrome people to gym
        >they go full moron with the weights
        >lunk alarm activates
        >downys kicked out
        >sue Planet Fitness for discrimination against Downs syndrome people
        >they remove lunk alarm from all gyms

I’m pretty sure the lunk alarm is manually set off.

No, but you get what you pay for. You might have to go during odd hours or do unusual lifts like 1 leg squats or weighted calisthenics.

Me on the right. And no it's not that bad. It's a place for noobs and lazy people to lift. If you travel a lot in the US it's a good membership to have in case you can't get a decent workout in anywhere else since it's only $10 a month. If you're a bodybuilder then you can make it work but if you're into strength then you 100% wouldn't like it

As a PF goer who follows genuine advice on here and tries to avoid schizo shit, PF is ok. Keyword is OK. It's a cheap enough gym for entry level, but you will need to find a more dedicated gym to see substantial improvement after a certain point. It's also the most easily accessible which means it gets weirdos, shitters, etc. and has limited weights/machines even on its least busy days.

Depends on the specific franchise. I had a membership for about a year and the only thing that sucked was no barbells, only Smith machines. Other than that they had dumbells going up to 100lbs, cable lat pulldowns and rows, Leg presses, and tons of machines. Great to start but if you're super serious then go somewhere else I guess.

I’ve never seen a PF with dumbbells heavier than 75lbs.

If you can think of the complete opposite of hardcore and testosterone then that is what planet fitness is so yes, it's bad.

Yes it’s really that bad. It’s the only gym I’ve ever been in where I actually feel like people are actively judging eachother. Better than a hotel gym I guess

      >"no judgement zone"
      >most judgemental gym around
      Same vibe as
      >"we're the more inclusive"
      >excludes everyone who doesn't fit their worldview

The lunk alarm really sells the judgement free zone, don't it? One time I used the treadmill, put my keys in the cupholder, and found a fricking half-eaten candy bar in there.
I can and will openly judge you for eating a 3 Musketeers while working out, frick you.

It’s not even the lunk alarm shit, and you don’t even need to be privy to the marketing where they make fun at “lunks” it’s that these gyms are designed around making you feel like you’re not supposed to be there if you like doing things like bench presses or deadlifts or any other compound movement. When you enter a pf you’re subconsciously being told to get the frick out by the nature of the gyms design.

Off putting purple and yellow decor, dopamine rush inducing candy/food that will get you wanting to home to lay on the couch, small free weight area to keep it cramped. Yep

…You guys DO know there are other $10/mo gyms that aren’t fricking terrible, right??? Not many, mind you, but they’re out there. But instead of looking around, you make these fricking threads ad nauseam because you’re too lazy to drive, and too cheap to pay an extra 5/mo for anything else.

    depends on the branch
generally speaking if you're a serious lifter it's bad but if you're just looking to exercise as an average joe 😉 then it's fine
