Road cycling is annoying to me, because you either can't go fast because of pedestrians, or you can't go slow because of cars. Or both because of traffic. But if you like it, you don't need my approval.
90% of road cyclists are DYEL lanklet skellingtons.
90% of mountain bikers are muscular chads.
I guarantee everyone in the pro peloton is repping your max squat with ease
I guarantee everyone in the pro peloton is a roidtroony
are you sure? those guys look emaciated
they probably squat like 250
MTB is basically broken into 2 groups
> XC racers who are mostly failed road cyclists
> DH / 4X guys who are mostly skinny fats or sometimes actual fats
This, road cyclers are always middle aged soibois
mountain bikers are fatties
>pro peloton
i went on google images to see what that is and holy shit that looks gayer than gay porn
>gay porn
did you go on google images to see what that is too, homosexual?
no, that i know from xhamster
I hate cyclists. Its always fat buttholes with $4k of equipment and an identity to uphold.
I use my dads old bike from the 70s because I'm poor and want to lower my resting heart rate. Those frickers treat me like I'm some sort of rare bird. Once one of them lifted themselves up to clap at me as I passed by. I wish every cyclist who isn't me gets terminal testicular cancer.
>I wish every cyclist who isn't me gets terminal testicular cancer
Basado
there are guys who spend hours everyday maintaining their bikes
I use a shitty old bike and apply some grease to the chain every few months
runs fine lol
I lift in crusty blown out chucks you weak homosexual, I also only drink water out of gutters and streams. I am better than you.
I'm a rooner and I hate try-hard cyclists. Last week one cyclist in the try-hard spandex outfit almost ran over a group of 10 year kids on the trail because he refused to slow down. Not even joking. Normal cyclists who do it for transport or normie exercise are fine.
Chad equipped cardio is skating though. Not even close. Skaters look cool as frick when they pass me.
>go running all fall and winter every other day
start cycling in spring and you have the feeling that you are almost dying and have been smoking that whole period.
>go cycling in spring and summer every other day.
start running in fall and you have the feeling you never stopped running and are on 80% of your running capacity.
Yep, cycling is IST approved
No. Cycling is for boomers, homosexuals, and people who are too lazy to run.
don't listen to the naysayers. If you can make it a habit and cycle/run everyday you will cardio max easily. At the moment I cycle 3 times a week and run for 2 to save my joints
yes it is. Just watch the sprinters and the indoor guys
obviously shopped
you need to watch some indoor cycling. Especially the keirin guys
>was born with a condition which makes it difficult for his body to inhibit muscle growth
what
its code for steroids
do you not know what myostatin is?
could be myostatin deficiency
but more likely
for going 80kmph you obviously need huge legs
>everyone mogged by an old man on a motorised bike
His battery will fail him one day or burn his house down.
biking to gym , work, run small errands, etc. is GOAT. Love whizzing by fat mouthbreathers sitting on their ass stuck in traffic, checking their phone/eating food, copeing with their mediocre lives by having a 5 year car payment on an entry level luxury Mercedes/BMW that absolutely no one gives a shit about
The bikepill is liberating. No, not as big a life impact as lift/diet, but it gets you out of the 'commute slowly around town, listening to the same pop song for the 1000th time, i hate my life need to get a new car' mindset and makes you mentally and physically present.
Take the bike pill boyo. As for road biking, awesome way to see the countryside around you but you gotta keep lifting / eating to compensate because most road bikers are DYEL queerboi body types
schizobabble
Will agree that Cycling may be one of the worst fitness related sub cultures out there. Definitely can be pricks to newbies, and obsess over all the different gear/maintenance to an autistic level.
Like climbers are annoying because they all share this same stoner persona but at least they dont have a massive rod up their asses
Eh, riding a bike that is poorly maintained or just overall shitty is a pretty dismal experience. I've gotten a few people into cycling/mountain biking by just letting them ride a half decent bike for a bit.
I ride my motorcycle to the gym and places because it's fun, but I take the bicycle for cardio. I have many bicycles but most were bought used very cheap.
I prefer single speed coasters since your options are push, or give up. Thus instead of shifting I just push more.
im 30 and too afraid/uncaring to drive a car and also an autistic loner so i ride my road bike and/or subway to the needs i have which are mostly work and some sporting events i do. im also completely emaciated but that is unrelated to the cycling.
ive ridden 2350 miles so far this year
As a walker and runner I hate most forms of cyclists. They should really be mandated to have bells like japanese bikes used to because they never use their words they just slide up on you on the sidewalk and expect you to have eyes in the back of your head. I've pushed a few people off fixies who bumped into me in the night because their bikes don't even have that coasting sound.
>riding a bike on the sidewalk
very dangerous. but hey at least you walk on the sidewalk and not in the street like the morons in my neighborhood
the thing is we have bikelanes and stuff like most modern cities they just don't use them. Even at night when there's literally no one on the road. The one cyclist around here that uses the bike lane has one of those sturdy looking town bikes with headlights, turn signals and flashers for nighttime visibility. It seems excessive but he's not dead so I guess it works.
At night any sane cyclist should have a light, red flasher on the back, and some sort of hi-vis.
I call out "on your left" but hamplanets, dog walkers, and karens can be extremely oblivious. Luckily in my area runners have their own section of hardpack dirt or a trail so I don't encounter them much.
Freaking hamplanets are the worst. 1 per lane......
while that is courteous I still prefer the bell. When someone says something like "on your left" it doesn't really register for a moment you look back to see before your brain realizes what's going on they're going past you. The bell at least your brain pretty much purely associates with bikes so there's no looking back moment you just get out of the way.
bell is very gay. i need some sort of horn
Yeah my old bell broke. Need to get another one.
It's not so bad in the deep south because nobody walks so it's your own lane. I might encounter 3 people a year on my sidewalk for a fast road near my house. No I'm not riding with trucks going 50-60 mph, it's not worth it.
Road cycling is the most fun way of cardio maxxing. You can do a very hard 4 hr cardio block if you go climbing some hills and then be in little pain next day. Same can't be said for running. You can't run a marathon every third day but I used to do 4hr cardio blocks on a cycle every third day. Even ran in between those 3 days. Good 1400m alti gain and otherwise 84 km out and back
Problem is cycling is the middle aged fat/fit dentists. They are to road cycling like crossfitters are to gym.
It's approved by some of us because we do it. I love Strava and trying to compete with the local fast boys. Only have 2 Koms, got lots of top 5s that make me feel pretty good though.
What sucks about Cycling is how it helps with cardio (kind of) and really only 1-2 muscle groups. Dont get me wrong, you can do leg day all you want and brag about your squat but until you bike your first 30 miler up hills you havent seen god yet. That said you can tell a sport sucks when top athletes look like computer programmers who havent stepped outside in the last month with a shirt on.
I noted kind of with the cardio above because it's a different kind. Training for a triathlon right now and it's actually surprising how LITTLE the cardio ability transfers from swimming to rooning to cycling.
Cycling cardio doesn't translate to running cardio and running cardio doesn't translate to cycling cardio. Its like human body runs a scam
30 miler uphill is eh kinda reach. I don't think you can ever find a road that goes just uphill for 30 miles. My max altitude gain in a ride is about 4640m and it didn't make see god or anything. I actually went to the top of the mountain to visit the monastery still didn't see god. All I saw was pathetic weak men
> Cycling cardio doesn't translate to running cardio and running cardio doesn't translate to cycling cardio.
Not perfectly, but it does pretty well.
I've switched between running and cycling quite a few times, and also switched to barely doing anything. What I learned is you start from a better position and progress way faster if you've been keeping up your aerobic fitness in some way.
That's obvious. The heart fitness stays during cardio switches but muscle and rhythm just doesn't translate
Nobody ever taught me how to ride a bike plz no bully
Look for some youtube videos. My mom taught me how to ride at 5 yrs old so I know you can do it.
The key is to pedal and keep a minimum of 3 or 4mph. Look ahead, your eyes and body will go where you are looking.
Don't squeeze the front brake too hard too fast.
Oh, and fit the bike to you well.
Many riders have a super low seat and it's hard to pedal well like that.
Oh and wear a helmet so when you crash you don't have real issues. Old cheap skater style helmets work fine.
Thanks fren I always wanted to but its kind of embarrassing for people to see you and or anybody above the age of 12 struggle with a bike.
So I've always put it off cuz of so
I would just go at dusk/dawn or at night in a safe area. That is if you are worried about being embarrassed. When you get better you can do stuff like track stands, tight figure 8's, etc and those skills will come in handy.
Nice. I use continental gatorskins and they are pretty good for around here. Lots of thorns. Back when I mountain biked more I ran tubeless.
yes its a gatoskin that i use as well. ran over a broken bottle i didnt see at dusk in the frickin shoulder of a newly paved road, buttholes
Best form of cardio. Low impact on joints and allow you to go far away in cool places
>tfw just had to replace my first flat in 1500 miles
