If you want cardio go for a run
If you are injured and the impact of running hurts, which is understandable, swim

Swimming and running are the only forms of cardio you need.

      Rooners are degenerate.

Biking is the ideal cardio, but for OP he should do what cardio he enjoys the most, and I guarantee rollerblading is way more enjoyable than ROONING.

A good set of skates is like $300 and that will last you for the rest of your life (plus changing wheels every 6 months)

If you skate faster and/or longer every time it is. There's also pure lard factories just doing grinds and shit on them. A lot of people just skate to look gay now too. It's all in how you use them.

You really need a closed area to rollerblade for cardio. Most streets/roads are way too rugged for you to get good speed and the cagers will murder you because they don't have any laws.

Parking lots are often better asphalt and made of long straightaways for sprints. Bike lanes to get there and back, if you live in a city that has them. But be sure to learn a good stop that doesn't take too much lateral space: power slide, hockey stop, soul slide, or magic slide.

    Aggressive skater here.

I'll burn 600cal in a 90 minute session according to my fatwatch. But my HR stays quite low the entire time.

So no, its not good cardio as your aerobic system doesn't get much of a workout, but you can use it to burn calories quite effectively. Running is better for fitness purposes but skating is more fun, so I do both.

    Pic related. Muh skates.

was gonna post this. it depends on your type of rollerblading. if you're at a skatepark you can burn mega calories just pumping around, especially if you pump up and down (with some jump spins) on a vert ramp while also striding. i don't want to add in grinding etc which burns even more calories but is a complex skill that takes time to learn with way more risk.

Hey, what’s the hardest part about rollerblading?

        Anonymous

        braking.

the most important skill for rollerblading is having good braking techniques and literally being able to stop on a dime

if you want to do any city skating without getting killed instantly, you have to be able to brake

Nah it's great cardio because you can go hard since it's low impact unlike running. With running the impact and jarring will wear you out way before you stress your cardiovascular system.

Hey, what’s the hardest part about rollerblading?

Not busting your ass when you hit a crack or a pebble while skating at 20+ mph lol.

        Anonymous

Running is low impact if you do it correctly.

On skates you spend too much time literally just standing there and freewheeling along. All those short rests add up and keep your average HR well below the anaerobic threshold. The sustained effort required to run distances is what makes it better cardio imo.

          Anonymous

Skating is still lower impact than running. I took it up cause I'm fat and was getting bad shin splints. Sure you can coast, but you don't have to. Just get an HR monitor and keep your hr in the target zone. Or, just go hard.

RB Cruiser. Good, comfortable, popular, customizable hardboot. You could use it for the rest of your life or upgrade to different styles of boots and frames depending on what discipline you want to be in.

i've got the RB110 3WD, no point fucking around with little wheels. Wish it came with 125s the RB boot is the only one that fits my big ass feet. Gonna get some NN Sumo 4x110 frames one of these days.

the ones in op's pic are xsjados, you use a specialized 'shoe' to lock in. but they tend to look a bit bulky. i'd recommend razors or themskates. as for recreational blades...powerslide has some cool looking freestyle ones.

At first, no. You're just trying to stay upright. Once you get some technique, you work as hard as you want. For example, backward starts: it's just a C cut and a couple of crossovers, get as much distance and as fast a turnover as you can, then slide to a stop and repeat. Sounds easy: after a few reps, it's not.
I have sprint days and skill days. Sprint days are gruelling. Skill days are for fun.
I'm older and my knees told me I was done running. I have way more fun on skates than I ever did running.
My setup is CCM Ribcor 70Ks adapted with 4x80mm frames. I rocker the front and back to about 76 mm to start and then wear from there. The most important thing is to be sure you get skates that fit. Foot pain is awful.

    Just my 2 cents.

My parents met skating and I did it since I could walk. Fast forward to my 20s and I move to a big city which has a skating rink pretty close to my house.
I start going 3 evenings a week. Not only did I get to the lowest bf of my adult life and some greatly improved coordination but the girls that frequent the rink are absolutely insane.

As others have said it gives back what you put in. If you push push and then glide for 10 yards then nothing is happening but if you are constantly pushing forward and crossing into turns then your results will be much more noticeable.
