Is running after lifting killing my gains?

I lift 4 times per week and always run for 15 minutes on the treadmill afterwards at a constant 8 mph pace. I mainly do it for the mental effects and I’m trying I’m trying to burn the fat away from my love handle areas. I feel like I’ve been hitting a wall in my progress the last few weeks, but my diet is fine and I feel like I have a healthy balance of cardio/weights. I’m 6’0 165 lbs if that helps.

      Maybe at 8mph
Decrease the speed to a light jog; id say no more than 5mph if you're doing it right after lifting.
8mph is fine on off days, just eat more food to counter the calories burned.

As long as you're staying in the 'fat burn' heart rate range. Once you enter cardio, you will be killing gains.

      >15 minutes
I can't stress this enough: no.

Dont listen to these fat bloatlord gays

      running > fitness

just run 3x a week and lift 3x a week, take 1 day rest

Took 2 weeks off after completing c25k (I had one 5k run in between) because of plantar fasciitis and it was interrupting my leg day. Going to try running tomorrow but what am I expecting?

Any time you take more than a week off of cardio it always sucks ass when you come back.

Oh come on it was only one more week. How bad could that be? Fricking plantar gayness....

Just don't overdo it. I've been running somewhat continuously since December and had to pause a week here and there due to colds or travel. You'll be slow and it will suck, but you can make it up as long as you don't run till injury.

You're expecting plantar fasciitis unless you are addressing the root cause (running too much, heelstriking or whatever that is).

Well 3 months ago I was running 5km in less than 23min, today went for a run and didn't manage to run more than 3 and half km. Cardio isn't like strength.

Most likely you were running too fast, too long

You will not win any powerlifting meets unless you have perfect leverages but it will not hinder muscle development at all.

Signed up for a half marathon today, little nervous to be doing it in the humid northeast during the summer but hopefully it won't start too late. I'm up to 26 miles a week and 10 miles on my long run so I think I should be good (there is a month until the race).

yes, you should run before the workout and have it double as a warm-up

If you account for the extra calories in your diet you'll be fine.
    >My diet is fine
    >I'm hitting a wall
    Pick one.
Eat more and change up your macros.
It's possible your program is also just getting to the end of its usefulness but I know people who ran SS to a 3 plate bench; pretty confident it's your diet.

You should weigh more than 165. I would say 200 even is a healthy weight for a 6 foot guy.

I got a question. I've been rooning 5km 5 times a week but it feels like I'm not getting any faster. Last time I timed myself, I did the lap in 27 mins and it was the same time I did as when I started. Should I just stick it out and I'll eventually get faster or what?

      have you tried rooning faster?

        Anonymous

I've tried, or at least I think I've tried. When I try to run faster, I try to do it as fast as I can with the goal of not stopping until I've done the whole lap, so I don't know if that counts or not

5k in 27min is a fine time, forcing a faster pace is not worth it, it will mostly tire you more
you should run longer distances instead for more gains
after some time you will improve your pace unconsciously

        Alright, thanks

27min is a good time for a 5k. You can get faster by doing longer runs, interval training, and tempo runs. Intervals and tempo runs will wear you out though, so don’t do them on or just before leg day.

15 minutes isn't enough time to significantly stimulate lipolysis. You're mainly burning glycogen with 15 minutes of cardio. You burn the same amount of calories either way, but burning glycogen is kind of pointless because you could have just not ate those carbs in the first place. In the case where you're not eating carbs at all, your body will release cortisol that breaks down muscle tissue to form amino acids, killing your gains.
If your goal is lipolysis, you should be doing low-medium intensity cardio for 30+ minutes. Low-medium intensity is ~120-130 bpm for most people - you should be able to hold a conversation.

Is it normal to get an adrenaline high after about 1 hour of cardio? I feel like I want to fight someone/something and it makes me pick up the pace to the point where I get side stitches.

    how about running BEFORE lifting?
because thats what im doing almost every day

i got a treadmill and i use it for 25-40 minutes long jogging sessions (im too weak for real running) before every time i lift in my home gym

Running before lifting could hurt because it tires you out, preventing you from going as hard when lifting and therefore lifting less volume.
But 30 minutes a day, 7 days a week is not enough running volume to hurt you in gains, if you sleep.

Unless you run to the point that you're damaging your knees or feat it really isn't a big deal and won't effect your gains.
