There is a reason most security guards are minorities, it attracts the kind of person who thinks doing nothing is the best job ever.

I know 4 firefighters/EMTs. The whole thing is run by Boomer neopotism and getting in is impossible unless you shake hands and kiss some asses. At best you will end up in an ambulance.

Firefighter does seem to be the most IST job available

I just noped the frick out of this. I thought it’s what I wanted to do, that it was the only job I could see msyelf happy in. Worked private EMS and quit and said frick it entirely. I have high respect for anyone in that field but it’s not for me. It makes me too sad, I get too grossed out by certain fluids. I don’t think I can be okay if I ever see a child seriously injured or die. Fire even if it means 90% EMS is definitely the way to go, because you’ll get a livable wage and will be treated appropriately by your employer. Private ambulance is definitely to be avoided at all costs not even worth experience. But it caused me to say frick the entire field and now I’m jobless with no skills or anything.

      [...]
      Get into tech.
You won't. You don't have the patience or the maturity to deal with bugmen. Go work on an oil rig or something until your bones grow cold and you promise yourself that you'll deal with anything just to get the frick out of your situation. Then get into tech.

I’m interested in learning to code. If you see the above I noped out of EMS/medicine. Tried doing trades (production) for a bit but hated it. Any advice? If I could learn python well enough to get a job that pays me like $45k I would then go back to school and take classes on the side for software engineer/ whatever pertinent degree. I feel lost. I like that I’m learning it in my own and I enjoy it so far. I don’t love it but I can see myself coding as a job if it pays my bills and even means potentially working from home. Doesn’t haven’t to be from home but that’s a plus. I’m at a point I’ll do any job that I can be competent with that doesn’t make me want to kill myself which also comes with an actually acceptable pay.

Dang man that sounds awful. I've been a firefighter and only got my EMT certification because it's a requirement to get hired, doing ONLY ems with no sick fire shit between medical calls sounds like hell

          Anonymous

I’m my state there’s barely any fire. It’s 90% EMS. And most of that is the typical stubbed toe regulars or elderly people. They had me transporting vent patients and braindead people and that was enough to frick with me to the point I’m just out now.

I realize an actual fire department is better, that it means NOT being on the ambulance for 15+ hours and being able to make more than $35 after taxes, and even if there’s no cool fire shit there is actually time to chill the frick out between calls at the station, but frick I’m just turned off of it now. I’d be all for it if it was at least 50/50 fire and ems but structural non nature type fires aren’t common at all where I am. Shit if I even at least had interest or passion to help sick people…
There’s also this toxic highschool tier environment from what I’ve seen in my courses and while working and I just don’t care enough to deal with any of it.

I made more money with better working conditions as a Covid tested working 10+ hr shifts outside all day than that amberlamps job.

No it’s butthole I only do it part time because I can sit on my phone all night. It’s alright for 20yo but any fully grown man shouldn’t be doing it. I’m assigned to a homeless shelter and 3/4 days last week involved human shit. I use the kitchen bathroom because it’s the only clean bathrooms and those motherfrickers are zombies so they stay up all night at all hours so they watch me go in and out. Anyways one of these frickers must’ve memorized the kitchen code because the janitor in the morning told me someone smeared their shit all over the floor and on the walls so if they ask for shit from the kitchen I just tell them no now. Also some crackhead with no teeth shits his diaper and squeezes out all over his bed so I have to go In there and give his buddies bags to clean it up. I refuse any part in being their babysitters. Frickers complaining about not making them cereal at 3 in the morning or screaming about not grabbing them muffins. They really are grown up children and I hate them. Some fricker spending his last $30 on booze and pissing his pants crying while asking me to zip up his sleeping bag. I didn’t by the way cops ended up making him leave. Any new guy that shows up who’s done security before immediately tells me this is the worst place they’ve worked. I’m pretty close to just quitting on the spot now from any inconvenience because it’s just little things on top of one another. But no it’s not a IST job you sit in a chair all night on your cellphone or laptop but you’re on this website so it may just be the job for you.

What do you think IST should I quit my job? I dropped out of college because they tried making me wear a red band on my wrist for not taking the vax and eventually I’d have to take it for any in person classes. Have done tree work and plumbing before. Tree work is ass because your ears ring all day and I get poison oak pretty bad. Quit plumbing my first day because I worked for this fat israelite named Peter Levi who started cussing me out in the first 30 mins because I was walking around with my water bottle following my lead and telling me to slave but the trucks were loaded so nothing to grab. Anyways the thing with trades is all your coworkers are depressed and secretly want to kill themselves and tell how they go home and drink themselves to sleep and wake up and eat 7/11 food. I’m only 20yo so I still have time to make something of myself but a lot of the average wagie out in the real world stuff is just demoralizing.

What's the big deal about getting vaccinated?

          Anonymous

It does nothing to stop the transmission of covid. Vaxxies give covid to vaxxies all the time. In fact it’s does more harm than good. With covid I had a minor headache and runny nose when family and friends got the vaccine they got terribly ill and got the shakes. Also not to mention the possibility of developing blood clots. It’s complete bullshit and was a shill by big pharma to make as much money as possible without a care possible of what was actually in it. They’re not liable to take lawful action against for a reason. For people that actually had something to lose it was take this or lose your job and not have a place over your head for you and your family. It’s just a massive dick slap in the face to the common people and I want no part in it. You can’t let people hold power over you like that.

No it does, it doesn't stop it fully but vaccinated people give the virus less than non-vaccinated. That's old news.

I'm 19 and am gonna quit my current job as soon as I finish my apprenticeship. Would it be an awful idea to do security part time while I train mma, lift and do short courses in my spare time until I figure out what I actually wanna do?

I'd like to do club or bar security because it seems the most engaging but I'm only 70kgs at 5'9 and drunk women make me wanna cut myself. I also occasionally cry after getting into fights due to the adrenaline dump lol. Not sure if it's worth mentioning that I have a pretty gay voice as well even though I'm straight, it definitely wouldn't help me command respect.

Anyone with experience in the industry have any advice?

Yeah, security can be a great field for anyone but certain settings like bars or clubs just arent for you if you arent a big dude. These places just want big intimidating dudes, they don't care about any actual skills at all. I'd suggest getting into armed security or if you are going unarmed get a position requiring a security clearance. People love to shit on security guards because 90% of them are in fact lazy shithead minorities, but that means anyone who shows even the slightest amount of competency and professionalism is given lots of opportunities. If you take it as a career and get certs, you can find yourself in some nice gigs like bodyguards and executive protection.

No, I've been a bouncer and security guard. You just stand around and tell people not to go into certain areas. You don't get into fights, you subdue them and wait for the cops. You don't get to chase people or do anything physical, you sit or stand for hours on end watching people puke and piss outside.

I worked security and it seemed stupid to me to have to approach strung out meth heads and heroin addicts and tell them to get off property in the middle of the night. Once I accidentally hit my emergency button and found out it doesn't actually do anything lol. No phone call or 911. So if someone stabs you then you are dead and oh well.

Don't do security. You will be treated as a subhman and you will have to deal with actual subhumans. Your co-workers will likely be braindead boomers or low iq meatheads with no ambition or real interests. Also, you might die or get injured by a meth head w a knife who has nothing to loose.
