    It's...fine.

    1) you need to setup safeties unless you want to get paralized
    2) you don't squat in them the same way you would with a barbell, it has to be more of a hack squat
    3) you need to remember that it's a machine and your numbers won't translate to actual squatting in any similar way

      I'm guessing he only has smith machines available to him.
      If that isn't the case, then I agree, just do regular back squats rather than use the smith.

    all compunds should be done on free weights.
    if u train with a smith machine and then jump on a free weight squat you are doomed to snap something since your core muscles, connectivity tissue, ligimants etc are underdeveloped from the use of smith machine

    basically there is 0 need for it imo. at most use it as accessory or not at all.

        That's fricking stupid. Chinups can work if you do them right but you'll have less of a range of progression and you could easily get limited by hand strength when you start adding weight and growing yourself.

      why wouldn't a smith machine develop those? You are under the bar, loading your skeleton and your muscles

    If you have no barbell available, you're better off using the hack squat machine if you have one, and follow with walking weighted lunges and db bulgarian split squats. That'll get you going.

    If you are in planet fitness, just use the leg press and do body weight squats. Just use the machines in PF in general and get a cage at home for free weights. Gyms are for socializing anyway.
