You may have a point, but you’re also cherrypicking the splayed feet. If this is the oem design then what about the stunted growth and big bellies from consuming low calorie plants and looking like jungle asians?
I go barefoot way more than I wear shoes and my toes are not splayed. I only ever put on shoes to go from A to B. My feet are wide, but that’s genetics in my case.

                >if this is how the human hands are supposed to look like, is getting shot in the face also part of the original design

                >I go barefoot way more than I wear shoes and my toes are not splayed. I only ever put on shoes to go from A to B
wearing goyshoes still pushes your toes together. The amount of splaying that is appropriate is debetable but it certainly is far more than goyshoes can ever support.

The problem with these is that you can really feel every part of the ground under your feet. I’d recommend something like the Hoka Clifton. It makes you feel like you are running on clouds

                >The problem with these is that you can really feel every part of the ground under your feet
                and that's a good thing.

that pic is cheating by artifically pressing against the ground to hold stuff in place and manually moving things appart by fingers before hand.

The wide toe boxes are great, and zero drop can be beneficial if you have knee and hip issues, but other than that I don't see the point.

Just buy Altras or Topos if you want a massive toebox, and put some drop inserts in if you're not a zero-drop gay, There hasn't been long enough for feet to evolve to run safely on concrete without cushioning, and there's too much sharp shit out the trails for me to wear flimsy "barefoot" shite.

The whole barefoot craze started with the book born to run highlighting the raramuri people in Mexico, famous for their (ultra) long distance running abilities, doing so either barefoot or with thin homemade sandals.

The modern running shoes was created with the idea that if you take longer strides (heel strike) you can run faster. Notice in pic related how the white guy is about to land on his feet while the Mexican is landing more flat on the ball of the foot.

    >walking long distances feels fine though
    >comparable to using crossfit shoes for lifting (very stable)
    >the toe boxes are nice as a normally 2E shoe width dude
In regards to OP's photo with the toe spacing, mine weren't too crushed other than the pinky toe to begin with but after two years it hasn't improved. Probably needed to combo it with one of those plastic toe spacers.

That being said a lot of these people make completely unfounded claims about the benefits of zero drop foot shaped shoes or overcharge you (our shoes need less material but cost just as much???). The KneesOverToesGuy is selling his for basketball, if you actually use shoes with no cushioning to hoop you actually deserve to be ripped off.

tl;dr get these if you don't wanna constantly change out shoes and all you do is walk and lift weights. It probably does help with some walking gainz but there's a reason why half the nurses you see working 12 hour shifts swear by Hoka-like mega cushioned shoes.

Vivobro here. Been wearing Vivos for years. They're minimalist barefoot shoes. Zero drop, wide toe.

Not a scam. My feet and calves have never been stronger or more stable. I can even hike barefoot without much pain or discomfort. Rocks ain't shit to me.

I use pic related for walking and lifting. I use nicer looking Vivos for anything more formal. If home, I'm barefoot. I use wide toe Altras for running though - haven't done research on Barefoot for running.

Be forewarned: The first three months using Barefoot shoes is pretty rough because most people aren't used to so little cushioning/support. After that, they're pretty amazing.

Feel free to ask me anything.

How do you squat with a zero drop?

        Anonymous

This was tough for a while until I started practicing ankle mobility. Don't have issues with it now, though. I feel a lot of contact/tripod with the floor. It's just like squatting barefoot.

        >barefoot shoes

So you’re basically paying more for a regular shoe with shitty soles? What did they change exactly after their insane price increase from last year?

"Paying more" doesn't really come into the equation because these are the only types of shoes I wear. Regular shoes feel constraining and painful.

For example: I once left my walking pair at my girlfriend's house and had to walk to the gym in old Converse. My feet were bleeding by the time I finished the 30 minute walk.

Unsure about a price increase. I mostly just wear Primus Lite IIIs - which retail for 160 USD.

        >So you’re basically paying more for a regular shoe with shitty soles?
        Not him.
But what I'm paying for barefoot shoes is to deal with spikey stuff, or friction.
My foot and body structures can handle the impact exceedingly well, but the skin on my feet still will take damage if I run around carelessly and things like gravel on hard surface is still impossible for me to run on comfortably without something to even out the pointy hard bits of gravel that doesn't give under weight.
        >What did they change exactly after their insane price increase from last year?
The prices shouldn't be insane, you are paying for basically a small layer of rubber under your feet with nothing fancy.
All the big brands are RIPPING people off and I do not recommend them.
But some offbrand shit that is at least 4 times cheaper.
I myself get something between 20-50$ on amazon(or any other shop you can find, be it on the internet or real life) and it lasts me a year.
I think 20-30$ is a fair price for one, going over that is increasingly scammy.

Well there really isn't much "tech" innit. It's just a piece of flat rubber, with some tread, and something on top to keep it attached to the foot. It should by default be cheaper.
I'm personally get decent deals. That said they could be cheaper and the toe box could be even better, as they are providing "better than normal shoes" but there is few shoes with "if your feet are fully unfricked then these will fit best"

Barefoot shoes are great, and they are only a scam if you make them. You don't need some $140 toe shoes when you can get the same benefits for a third of the cost or less. Just look for zero drop and wide toe box, and the shoe should be thin and flexible enough to roll up into a ball. Ideally the upper mesh should be breathable, might as well since it'll be too thin to protect your feet anyway.

I do and like them for it yeah. You need to use a midfoot or even slightly forefoot strike for them. They put a lot more stress on your feet and calves especially if you're used to heelstriking, so you'll need to slowly adjust to them over time. I guess a bonus is you'll never feel like you have to do calf raises at the gym.

I have a much lower BMI than any of the major strongman competitors (Brian Shaw in that photo probably has a BMI of 49.5, whereas mine is 33.5). To put it into perspective, it's the same as a 5'10 guy who weighs 225, or a 6' guy who weighs 240. It seems like you might be a Euro or turd worlder, so my height is 2 m and my weight is 131 kg.

                Anonymous

I'm not coping - I'm trying to explain something to someone who's histrionic and vaguely brown.

if your BMI is over 30 you're obese by definition. Yes, it's not a perfect system because it doesn't take your muscle mass into consideration and it's more accurate for average height people, so even if you're obese it doesn't mean that you are as fat as other people with your same BMI. Don't get too hung up on the definitions though, unless you are completely deluded all you need to do is look at yourself in the mirror to know whether you need to lose weight or not. BMI is useful for statistical data and to make idiots realize that they are fatter than they think

Already explained above that at 290 (current) I'm overweight, but at 265-270 I'm only 12%. The point was just that it's stupid to hoot and holler about muh 300 being "morbidly obese" like it's meaningful in my case.

The price would be okay if I knew they wouldn't fall apart eventually.
Look for some made from real leather. Unless you punch them with something sharp the leather will last virtually forever. The seams and the sole are gonna give out before that and you can actually get that repaired in most cases.
Faux leather is garbage and the environmentalism bullshit annoys me so much when it promotes obsolescence.

Leather does also have the advantage of flexibility. It gets very soft over time and starts contouring your feet better.
Can't really tell you about looks though. The shoes I got look very old fashioned and clownish with how big they are at the front but I don't care as long as they pass the dress code. Before I got them I literally ran around with my 12 year old holey shoes because they were so worn they've been the only ones I could wear comfortably. Would have lasted even longer if my feet weren't so wide they'd spill over the sole to the point I was walking on the leather.

the irony is that the shoes on the right, are STILL the wrong toebox shape and size. They are just better than left, but not what is ideal.

moron, if those shoes would be 5 sizes bigger, their toebox would still be shit and fricking with the shape of the foot.

Not a scam but they all look like clown shoes which could be considered a scam.
Just wear sandals but nothing you can do if regular shoes are required

Can I jump rope in these things?

Obviously they're better for jumping than regular shoes.
Ideally you want ones that have a high ankle though so you get more stability for stuff like that in case they don't perfectly fit your foot shape.
Boxing shoes are made for rope jumping and they were often designed similarly to allow you the best foot work, minimal sole and no heel for that matter. The issue with them is usually the toebox is still based on regular shoes.
Vibram style toes would honestly be the best if toe shape was uniform but for me they've always been complete mismatches.
Maybe in the future we can 3D print shoes based on 3D scans.

More like Paleo Diet for your feet.

      There exist decent-looking minimalist shoes.

I did a bit of research on them and I'd probably buy pic related based on what I read and how they look but I can't be bothered to drop $129 on shoes when I have to wear boots for work most of the time anyway

yeah leather is obviously better but idk where to find a shoe that looks that good made of that
i would just chill in them most of the time doing errands so i wouldnt care much about durability

Groundies and ZAQQ make minimalist barefoot shoes.

Anyone who wears cleats (which are notorious for ruining feet), go for the Japanese market cleats from Mizuno or ASICS. They are wider by default and offer wide and extra wide sizes. Forget Nike.

New balance is also wider but not as good as the Asian ones
