they're a meme because they're basically twiddling between actual pushups (and you should do those as deficit pushups anyways) and actual tricep exercises
    "but what if no gym"
just do bodyweight tricep extensions on a staircase or desk - there's no need for this amount of loading that you're artificially taking away using chest+delt involvement
it's like slapping bands "in reverse" on a benchpress and then doing close grip bench

      that's a great idea

this is how i do them. get a pushup bar and basically only move your forearms level a lever. really hits the triceps and forearms

I've done them quite a bit. They only really grow your triceps. They do not grow forearms very much if at all. Big forearms require things like deadhangs and farmer's carry.

I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with diamond push-ups. They just aren’t the most efficient movement for training chest or triceps or shoulders and don’t really have specific carryover to any particular sport as far as I can see. Push-ups are an essential motion, but there are better versions of the push up in my opinion from the diamond push-up. And if someone really wanted to hypertrophic, we develop their chest and triceps her shoulders obviously, there are better movements that will generate higher attention levels and stretch levels in those muscles. I never do diamond push-ups these days

As long as you tuck your elbows, they're probably the best push-up variation there is

yeah, but, like, uhhh, why do pushups at all when you have access to dumbbells, barbells, cables, etc.?

Have you ever done weighted push-ups?

no, i do them upside down with a barbell instead. i call it a "bench press"

You should try them. It affects more muscles because it requires core stabilization and it's better for your shoulders. Being a close-minded elitist is understandable when you're a beginner but that stuff is detrimental to your development in the long run

show me a single advanced lifter at all that regularly does weighted pushups. only calisthentics-only gays do them as a cope.

theres a webm of a boomer doing these and the weight sliding off his back and breaking his finger. if you want to add weight to your push up, just take your feet off the ground

              >if you want to add weight to your push up, just take your feet off the ground
I have done this too, it changes the angle and the whole exercise. You can put the plates in a sturdy backpack or just strap them together with a lashing strap so they don't slide around

homie just use a dip belt and drape it over your mid-back
This is the one hack IST doesn't want you to know. It does require you to be using parallel bars/rings though, but it's effortless to load it

no, i do them upside down with a barbell instead. i call it a "bench press"

Make sure to post after the doctor tells you that your entire shoulder complex needs surgery or you'll never be able to wipe your ass again so I can laugh at you

They're a good progression of regular pushups. You can move onto wide ring pushups or dips afterwards
