no, its pretty good if you connect with different parts of your back and put in some variation accordingly though. if you dont feel your lats youre better off building them doing something else.

I think I have pretty good lat activation and I feel these mfs a lot in the lats. Are rows superior? Someone said that rows increase back thickness and pull ups back width, is that true?

Anon this is just my experience, but once I started doing BB rows I felt my back get wider and thicker. I still do pull ups on occasion but as an accessory and feel like they don't target my lats as much.

i feel my lats alot on bb rows. if use a claw grip and put the weight on my pinky it helps the lats too. sometimes i get a nice lat pump from chins or pullups.

just do both, its the same movement done in different ways

What kind of rows do you do? From mine I feel nothing other than my lower back getting ready to snap

I do Bent Over Barbell rows and cable rows, sometimes one armed cable rows if I'm not fricking dead from the other two. I also do lat pull-downs and include pull-ups as accessories sometimes. My lower back only feels like it's going to snap if it's rounded when I do bb rows. I used to do db rows but didn't see any gains. I'd say try lighter weight and work on your form doing high volume instead of high weight.

Fwiw it took me YEARS to feel my lats on pull ups. Now i know how to activate them during the movement, they are starting to grow, which is great, except it changes the way i stand and walk and i still have small arms. I look like a try hard walking around all puffed up 🙁

depends on how you row. In general you wanna do vertical pulling as well as horizontal pulling. what you can feel like crazy is a good exercise. if you activate your lass nicely for the whole ROM during pull ups then do pull ups and also some rows. BB rows are moronic and you should do cables or DB rows instead though. honestly I have a pretty big back but I think it just comes from volume. your back is made up of so many different muscles that it is imho impossible to """build ur back""" with only one exercise. if you need or want to be efficient though Id day pull ups or rows are best for that. but what do I know? I just pick exercises that burn and are fun and do those. dont overthink your training

I dont usually feel DB rows at all in my lats. Sometimes if a twist my arm I can get a bit of a cramp feeling in my upper lat.

            Try underhand grip

my man are you doing them slowly and close to your body? its literally the Lats movement path

I keep them close to my body. I start with a neutral grip and then when I get to around my torso I twist my hand into underhand and externally rotate

Rows work the teres and lower traps more than the lats imo

Pullups will hit your lats more, and rows generally will generally hit your rhomboids and upper back muscles and scapular muscles. However both pullups and rows incorporate most back muscles... if you're doing them right, pullups should be recruits scapular muscles sufficiently to work them and rows will be working your lats. Just do as many types of both as you can, with as much variation in type/width of grip as you can

The grip is more important than the exercise in terms of back thickness vs back width. Narrow grip rows and shoulder width pullups will focus more on your lats, causing your back to look wider. Wide grip rows and pullups will focus more on your traps and rhomboids, giving you a thicker back.

Yes, you really only need to get strong at pullups for a good back if natty. Talking 8+ reps with 2 plates

It’s the best lay exercise hands down. Do 3 reps of 20 sets at the end of your back workout. Your lats will grow guaranteed. Just try it for a month you’ll see, nothing to lose

Personally, I was only developing thickness over width until I started taking weighted pull-ups seriously.
