Autists love to intellectualize and complicate simple problems, so they come up with memes like muscle scraping, icing your own balls, keto, etc.

The quacks who also believe in astrology and chiropractics claim it breaks up scar tissue and "drains" the """toxins""" to the surface so they get flushed out.

This is just cupping without cups. It's "bloodtherapy" which is fricking moronic, there are no toxins in your blood and if there where you would be in the emergency room.

there's a difference between someone like a physical therapist utilizing graston technique for soft-tissue diagnosis and/or massage and someone that is piggybacking off of the concept and is just winging it.

is it a meme when a person with no credentials and a loose background/education in the human body decides to scrape your skin raw because they saw a 10 minute yt video about it? probably.

is it a meme when a physical therapist does it? possibly but at least they can point to research both in support and dissenting to back their claims and they carry out the treatments with multiple forms of oversight to make sure it's not harmful.

This. I had the graston technique used on me for helping recover from shin splints, and while it was painful it didn't actually leave bruising.

I mean holy frick, these people are destroying their dermis and bleeding internally.

It's just the next pseudo health scam just like hot/cold treatment or cupping. It literally doesn't do shit except that it feels relaxing (which you can see as a plus if you really want). This is just the next scheme to pull money out of peoples wallets. There's also no such things as "detoxifying your body" because your body already does that via the liver and kidneys. All of these things are just scams made to appeal to fat and lazy people so that they can feel good about themselves instead of actually changing the real problems which are bad diet, lack of exercise, frequently indulging in drugs and alcohol, modern pharma poisoning via countless """medications""" (something like 2/3rds of americans, and probably around the same in the rest of the western world, are on prescreption drugs like anti depressants, sleep medication, etc. + it's usually not one but multiple things people take) and many more things. Your money is more well spent on massages and saunas.

I had tight triceps which caused pain when I did skullcrushers, dips, or bench press, a PT scraped them and the problem went away for a week. It's a good short-term solution but it doesn't replace stretching, foam rollers, or using proper form.

  13. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

Probably a meme, you might get some of the same benefits that foam rolling would give, just with more pain

im not too deep into this but i believe they flat do it wrong, its not supposed to frick up skin and its not even for skin, its like brutal dermarolling to target muscles with smooth metal piece to help weak doc put pressure where he wants to.

The only possible benefit to this would be that the stimulation/irritation of the tissue would cause blood to rush to that area, providing it with more resources for a brief time (a few hours-1 day).

However, a deep tissue massage would have the same effect without the need to cause yourself bodily injury. On top of which the benefits of this increased blood flow are so utterly minor that they're barely worth mentioning (and again, you don't have to fricking remove your skin to get them, just get a fricking massage).

The only thing that actually works is making your muscle stronger. If you are still in pain it means you are not hitting the right muscle.

Here is what I tried : Needle mats, Infrared saunas DIY (perfect for health benefits but no reduction in muscle pain) foaming rollers, massage balls, massage guns, car polisher (pretty good and cheap that one, get the orange black and decker one) Zhan Zhuang, 8 brocade of qidong, Yoga, Stretching, Foundation training (perfect for low back pain)
Neck training (extremely underrated) Massage, kiro, Tens unit etc.

The best thing for pain in all of this was lifting. Fixes everything right up.
