Is walkpilling a thing? Is it even worth it to walk unless you are very very old and can't lift anything?

I would imagine that if you have time to walk you have time to do some compound lifts or something, so why are people hailing walking as though it's a panacea when for most people I doubt it even gets your heartrate up into a meaningful zone for any change

    If walking is enough to stimulate zone 2 cardio by either
    >1. Speed
    >2. Distance
    Walking is cardio and therefore gives you the benefits of cardio.
    Or perhaps more simply, prevents your cardio game from slipping further into oblivion.

    For the record most people on IST couldn't walk 10 miles without stopping atleast once. So if you can do this, you would have better cardio than most of IST.

      There is more to walking than just cardio. It is a very natural human movement and therapeutically assists a strong workout program.

      You should be walking 20-30 min 3x daily. Morning, midday, and evening. Brisk pace because that’s what stimulates therapeutic effect the most. Spread throughout the day the disperse and maximize the therapeutic effect.

      What is therapeutic about it? The entire hip and spine column is supported by connective tissue with poor blood supply, like the discs in your spine. The main mechanism these structures hydrate and get nutrients is via motion. Ever heard “grease the groove” or “motion is lotion”; that directly applies here. By walking on a regular basis, you are literally keeping the structural support of your body alive and functioning. Otherwise it will degenerate. Even faster if you sit in a chair/couch all day then lift weights at night like most morons.

      Once you build a good base and can walk 3x daily without issue, mix it up a bit. Walk with weight on your back. Walk up a mountain. Walk carrying a heavy suitcase. Do this on a regular basis and you’ll be stronger, injury resistant, and recover from weight training better than ever.

      Movement is life. We are meant to walk.
