just have the fingers cover the top of the elbow and press with them, just easier to control with the cupped position.

If it hurts when curling (supine grip), it's probably medial epicondylitis. Move to neutral grip (hammer curls) and see if that helps. Also stop doing pulling exercises underhand. See if prone-grip pull-ups/pull-downs feel better. Try reducing the weight some on anything that requires grip, too, and get yourself an elbow wrap. Most tendinitis is actually more accurately tendinosus, and it can take months to resolve + come back periodically throughout your lifting career.

One exercise is an isometric hold of chosen weight over the head with a fully extended arm, it will help strengthen the whole arm and shoulders.

          what does isometric mean

            Anonymous

No change in length. You just hold for a given count -- theres no concentric and eccentric range of motion like with a typical resistance training repetition.

There is the starting charge of an eccentric force and then a concentric hold, otherwise, yes, its purpose is to hold in a tensed position. Isometric exercise in a nutshell. Its been studied on frogs to literally blow up their legs with just massive amounts of muscle. Concentric isometric position is the one with the most load you can output on a muscle essentially.

For general strength no more than a minute per hold, no less than 30 seconds.
