There’s a reason the strength standard meme is 1/2/3/4. It’s harder to progress OHP since shoulders are smaller muscles than pecs

Best thing I've done for my ohp is bb behind the neck press, very light sets of 10-12 until it's easy and your shoulder mobility is up for it. Then slowly add weight, and do at least 1-2 good sets every session. The muscles are so small they need frequent work

      Anonymous

did you experience any shoulder pain from this? My right shoulder gets a sharp pain with whatever grip I use, even with a snatch grip which is apparently easier on the shoulders

No, but I do have to roll my lats out real good before hand or they pull my scaps out of place
I went from the bar x10 to 135x10 in a week and my push press and ohp went up 30 and 20lbs respectively

I injured my pec but at my best I was at 505 bench with a 275 OHP. Now I can only bench reverse grip and can do 455 but have a 305 OHP now that I focus on overhead work.

I swear I never knew this existed until a week ago, and now I seem to see this everyday.

Working on my clean and pressing more these days since I'm training for a fitness exam in a few months so bench hasn't moved much. I basically do C&J, but don't have the room to split jerk so I do a dip and press.

YOU ARE ALL THE OPPOSITE OF ME
    220 OHP
    220 BENCH PRESS

I don't have stoppers or spotters I lift alone at home gym and can't rely on putting tons of weight otherwise the roll of shame would crush my body at 300 lbs

      Anonymous

Lad I've done the roll of shame at 345.
There are two ways to fail bench.
Catastrophically, as when your wrist snaps or a pec tears. No spotter will save you from this - they simply don't have the leverage to stop that bar from falling on you.
Second is exhaustion, as when you cannot finish a rep. A spotter will provide the aid necessary for your to rack the bar, but most of the work still comes from you. Without a spotter, you simply lower the bar to your chest and do the roll of shame. The rib cage is incredibly strong. There is no issue setting 400+ pounds on top of your ribcage and working your way out from under it. It's only a problem if you drop that weight from a height, allowing gravity to take it and frick you with it - in which case you're getting injured, spotter or no spotter.
So bench more. If you're worried about snapping your shit up and dropping it, then just don't do max work. You are not going to catastrophically fail doing work in your 4-6 rep range, and you can still progress this way so you don't sit at baby bench weight forever.
