Jordan Peterson said that people overestimate what they can do in a year but underestimate what they can do in 5 years. I thought, perhaps that applies to lifting as well.
I've been lifting seriously for about a year but am struggling just to add 5 lbs to most of my major lifts, with the only exception being seated leg curls which I've been killing for some reason.
So for any experienced natty lifters here (be honest), how much progress were you able to make in 1 year and 5 years?

What do you think it means to "act like God exists?" I think it's clear he's referring to morality. In other words, he doesn't rape, steal, murder, etc. If having good morals automatically makes you a Christian by your definition then you're parroting a strawman atheists have been using for decades.

Also what Christian do you know who ACTUALLY talks like this about God? A Christian has no good reason to be so cryptic about his faith.

Traditionalist conservatives hide their religious alignement all the time, because if they were open most people would recognize them as religious whackjobs. They don't say abortion is against God, they make an appeal to science about when life begins and argue that it's murder. They don't say being gay is against God, they say all teachers are groomers and it's a mental illness. Jordan Peterson doesn't say women don't belong in the workplace because God said they should be at home raising kids, he just heavily implies it while saying he doesn't know how to interact with women in a work environment.

He's larping as an outlaw professor to attract a younger crowd, he can't do that and also be outwardly Christian cause the kids wouldn't listen to him on Joe Rogan anymore.

He delivered an entire lecture titled "Who Dares Say He Believes in God?" where he goes into depth about the nuanced way he thinks about Faith and public pronouncements/attestations of it. On top of several different occasions in other talks in interviews where he's said different versions of, "I resist the question when it's asked because I know the asker is trying to fit me into a box and/or join their club, and I won't have it".

You won't listen to it though, I know. You're not a serious person with a serious problem with the man or the content of his ideas. You're just a gay redditor with an axe to grind. And you should go back.

It's ironic and sad that I did not have even a vague idea what the book is about after having grown up in a Catholic country. The same reason everything makes lefties mad. They took an issue completely out of context and seethed over it. JP expressed his distaste for a Canadian law that would force people to use one's "preferred pronouns" and the LGBT community had a predictable and stupid kneejerk reaction.

That isn't what C-16 does. He just lied about the bill to anyone who would listen. It passed, literally nothing here changed. No one's ever been arrested for misgendering. It was entirely a publicity stunt to launch him into the "Intellectual Dark Web" grift. And it worked for some reason.

What is a "hate crime"? Wasn't commiting a "hate crime" already illegal? Do you seriously not think "misgendering” will become a hate crime?

                Anonymous

A hate crime is a well defined thing in the Canadian criminal code. C-16 is about what constitutes an "identifiable group", you can see the definition at the bottom of the section. All C-16 did was add gender identity to the list of protected characteristics you can't advocate genocide or invite hatred towards. It didn't change any of the definitions of hate crimes. It isn't about pronouns.

                Anonymous

And the other relevant section. To recap, you can't advocate for the genocide of transgender people, and you can't call for violence against them, in public, where such an action could lead to a breach of the peace.

But all this was too much for mister Jordan Peterson, who somehow looked at this and thought it was about pronouns.

STRUGGLING TO ADD 5 POUNDS TO YOUR LIFTS, OVER A YEAR? did i interpet this right?

You did not interpret this right, my bad. I'm saying I just recently hit a point where I'm struggling. I've made considerable progress in one year but plateaued out in the past few months.

Happened to me as well. I stopped working out nearly as hard for nearly 3 months then was able to hit higher weight once I began again. Look up deloading.

Depends on how smart you are. If you just keep hammering the same lifts over and over for 5 years prepare to stall quickly and indefinately

    >How much progress did you make in 1 year
None, I haven't been consistent for a year.
I know that in a year I could lose all the weight I want and then gain some muscle. In 5 years of consistent lifting I could pretty much reach my final goal body I think.

He also got off the meds, was also a teacher at Harvard, wrote several best selling books, worked as a psychologist for decades, did research in a lab, created multiple other companies, stay married to the same wife for all his life. Benched more then you and provided more value to the people close to him and the world on large then what you could have done in 100 life times.

This doesnt apply to lifitng. You will get majority of your gains in the first few years on proper routine. If you stall you change up your routine but there is also good chance you have reached you genetic limit.

Peterson is the epitome of "feels > reals". He doesn't make any arguments, he doesn't care about what's true, only about feels.
This guy lectures for 2 hours without saying anything substantial.

The man is basically the modern version of Ayn Rand.
    >both wrote multi-page pop lit in academic prose boiling down to "You're in charge of your own life; take responsibility for your own choices", which shouldn't be controversial or novel advice in a healthy society
    >both are defined by a small group of retards that treat their word as gospel (Group A) and a much, much larger group of retards who have conniptions and go rabid whenever their names are mentioned (Group B)
    >neither one is particularly terrible as a writer and both have some interesting work outside of what they're known for (Fountainhead and Anthem have good prose, JBP's Bible lectures are supposed to be solid) but if you point that out, Group B will accuse you of belonging to Group A
    >both versions of Group B will respond with endless anecdotes about their personal lives or bad faith arguments about their work (which they got from other internet commentators; you don't actually think these retards read, do you?) to justify why they hate them so much

I understand why this can be construed as a bad thing, because it does come off as
        >don't try fixing the world, goy
But at the same time, if you're not doing well and your life is an unstable mess, should you really be trying to make change for the world when you don't know how to take care of yourself? That's what leads to shit like the echo chamber schizoids trying to push their mentally deranged ideals onto others, like the promotion of weakness, fat acceptance, etc.

It is stupid to apply Peterson's comment to lifting. Lifting is a case of diminished returns. At the start you gain muscle fast, then it gradually slows down.

There is really no point in taking lifting seriously because in 6 months to a year or two years you will pretty much gain all you are going to gain. This thing about taking 10 years to get a body is both generally an exaggeration and it's all people who started at under 20 years old, when the body is still growing and developing in some ways. You can't just start at 27 and expect the same linear progression, by the time you hit 30 you're essentially the final article, more or less, unless you've been doing something very wrong or go on roids.

Whatever the case you should not expect to take up weightlifting at any arbitrary age and gain linearly year on year.

The point he makes is about the improving of a skill, learning better work ethic, and using that as one portion of general self improvement.

The point of 6 months to 2 years is that even after 6 months you're going to already have some insights into your trajectory. If your arms are still twigs after 6 months proper training and bulking sorry but they are never going to be trunks you see people walking around with. After two years then there's a clear trajectory, a slowing down of the gains and a dramatic body transformation is unlikely without doing roids, bloatmaxing or completely changing diet and routine.
