          And I don't care about abs right now, my main thing is I don't want to bulk and get fatter and then cut later on to gain muscle if it's true that as long as I get enough protein and eat enough (not bulking) I can gain muscle

            You bulk to gain muscle. You cut to lose fat. While bulking if you're dirty bulking you'll also put on fat, but your goal is building muscle during the bulk and then show it after a cut.

              Youre always gonna gain some excess fat when eating to gain muscle. Unless youre a beginner or on roids its very very tough to build muscle while maintaining a caloric deficit
              As a personal anecdote im eating like shit right now (at my parents house, hard to avoid it) and my lifts are going up, that didnt happen as quickly as when i was on a deficit

              Frick I've been dirty bulking now I feel dumb

              That makes sense, so I just eat at a slight surplus to not become crazy bloated?

                Dirty bulking isnt great, im doing it and i look like shit
                I believe eating at aslight surplus (while eating around 0.8g protein per pound of bodyweight) should stop you from getting too bloated while gaining muscle
                But once again im a moron which is why im doing a dirty bulk

        You're not skinny fat, Black person. Skinny fat means you have hardly any muscle but lots of stubborn fat that is extremely hard to burn because of a lack of muscle.

    you can maintain more muscle mass at higher body fat percentage, it has diminishing returns the fatter you get ,but it is absolutely true.

    I'm going to say "Yes" but not because it's reality but because most people tend to under log the amount of calories they're actually eating. So If they shoot for maintenance they'll probably be at a surplus anyways. But in reality you do more or less need to be at a surplus to create an anabolic state long enough to grow anything. The likelihood of being a catabolic state and just flushing weeks or months of work down drain accidentally is pretty high if you're at true maintenance.

        It also depends on bodyfat
        A skinny kid can bulk up to 18% bf and, with proper diet, routine and cardio, he can mostly gain lean mass, but once you get above 20% bf, a lot of your testosterone will aromatase into estrogen killing your gains

    You cant gain muscle without gaining some fat as well. How much fat you develop next to your muscle depends on your lifting style and protein intake.

    Yes but "enough protein" is only 0.8g/lb of lean body mass and you want that to come from meat.
    And then the hard part is that you can't eat sugar or alcohol or sweeteners (except acesulfame potassium) or your body can't process it
    Also, you need to lift heavy at volume at frequency
