>Why only 3-6 months?
The SS novice linear progression is only meant for beginners and adding 5-10 lbs every session can't be sustained for very long. After that you need more complex programming. Rip has said all this shit in the books, but people still try to run the program for 5 years and wonder why they get injured or don't make progress.
You're right, but it almost doesn't matter. Anything works for a novice. The big thing is technique, trying hard, and recovery. Which is why 95% of SS is dedicated to those aspects and not the simple af programming that all you DYELs like to argue over on here.
SL will frick up kids with too much junk volume and hinder strength gains. Its an idiotic program and literally a negative to strength gains. No idea why anyone recommends that shit or why its still out there.
Huh? I'm no SS superfan but it got a 17 year old a 500 deadlift & mid 400s squat in 7 months in this case. And that squat is still probably double his bodyweight despite his weight gain. This is a success story. If you want to laugh at SS fails, laugh at the guys who get fat just to squat 275, not this kid.
The only shade you could throw here if you want to shit on SS is to argue his genetics would have him doing these numbers on any half decent program in this time.
I'll be moving to Brussels within a matter of weeks and I can't take my homegym with me. The only weightlifting gym there is a Starting Strength gym, with limited 3 days a week appointments and emphasis on personal trainers (for fricking SS jfl). Frick my life
you vain motherfrickers. only caring for aesthetics. some genuinely enjoying lifting heavy and focus on getting stronger. to each their own, i don’t know why bodybuilders obsess over powerlifter physiques so much and feel the need to clown them.
Well I'll tell you guys my experience, since SS worked really well for me.
I was a college freshman still living with my parents in order to save money. I blew all my textbook money for my first semester on getting a power cage, barbell, plates, bench etc. and used pirated PDF's instead. Math geek background with no sports, I started off super weak. 5'9" and chubby at 170ish pounds. Did SS, followed the book, added 3 sets of 10 curls during OHP day like the book allows, did a deload, worked up and finally couldn't add weight to the workouts again about 4 months in. Switched to TM again with just curls added, followed that program for 5 more months until I reached 1/2/3 for 1rm. I never tried the actual 1rm this was just calculated, and DL was way behind, I think around mid 300s. I looked great and felt great. Had a rough semester and didn't workout at all. Wanted to come back to lifting after finals and thought about a bodybuilding split, but the moment I saw shit like "cable flies, buttterly twist russian squat, kickback throwback hyper extension splits" I just gave up on it. I don't have that kind of equipment and that seemed like a huge fricking effort when I already looked great and got mired.
So maybe SS/TM from PPST is bad if you really want to look like a model or something, but for the average person its fricking fantastic. You don't even think about it, and are in and out of the gym/basement in under an hour( excluding heavy TM days once a week).
All these bad SS bodies are just people at or above 20% bf or without a pump. I'm already married and don't really give a shit about abs, so I also fall into this group. Stil have the same rack and gear from my uni days, still do some bastardized SS/TM bullshit but with no progression just to stay at my strength level and fit it in 30 to 40 minutes in the morning before work.
two sets of junk per workout. The point of the program is to build your strength up and your CNS to be able to handle it before moving on to a different program. That's it, that is all its supposed to do. doing five sets of five will just build up exhaustion and not have any benefit.
In 7 months he got a nice strength base, built some muscle, and got a better haircut. And he's still 16. Doesn't deserve the hate. I guarantee you there are people on here who have lifted for 5-10 years and can't squat/deadlift those numbers.
Exactly
SS works as designed, i.e to get teenagers into strength training for sports (American Football specifically). It's fine. The lad in OP got great results from it
morons on this board never ask for starting position
200kg after 6 months when starting at 195kg obviously means something completely different to starting at 100kg (the latter means roids)
there's also plenty of morons who have worked out before or have been doing fitness/athletics for a long time who "start" with a bench of say 30kg and move up to 80kg in 3 months, in this case the moronic part is how they state they're "starting" at 30kg
Yes, do it, or SL, but for no more than 3-6 months.
moronic advice
Why only 3-6 months?
Saying something is moronic but not providing an alternative is called being a homosexual

Okay that makes sense. Just seemed quick i didnt think people would bottom out that quick
>SL
no, never do SL. It's a made by a moron poojeet with weak lifts who arbitrarily added volume to SS because he thought it was lacking.
SS on the other hand was developed by a strength coach with decades of experience. Do SS according to the book without changing fricking anything

Elaborate. I've been doing SL for 2 months. What else "should" I be doing instead?
Junk volume? Wouldn't the extra volume just be exercise?
You're suggesting it's better to eat shit than shit with whipped cream ?
He actually built a shit ton of muscle.
You're just moronic and don't know what bulking is.
yeah and 99% of that muscle is in his glutes
Are you blind? You can clearly see muscle build up in the chest, traps, arms and shoulders.
he looks like absolute shit
He looked like shit before and was weak. How he looks less like shit because he has some muscle and better posture, and is strong. What's the problem?
>squatting over 400 and deadlifting 500
Gee, I wonder why they didn't mention his bench press?
To be fair, he does look better than on the left
Didn't this dude get arrested by the FBI already?
I wonder how many young men with the drive and motivation to get god-like bodies Mark Rippetoe has ruined with his moronic advice.
>Sam Bankman SNEED
Looks powerful. Great job, bro!
>that disgusting belly
What the frick.
He needs to be stopped. Someone please arrest this man for crimes against humanity.
he unironically looks better on the right. why are you all so mad?

wtf are toxic levels of testosterone?
Nothing that can't be fixed by a little bit of obesity
> NOOOOOOOO YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE A RIPPED TWINK
>NOW HOW AM I GONNA YANK IT
imagine paying them over 400 a month for this physique
I'll be moving to Brussels within a matter of weeks and I can't take my homegym with me. The only weightlifting gym there is a Starting Strength gym, with limited 3 days a week appointments and emphasis on personal trainers (for fricking SS jfl). Frick my life
ahem is a starting strength affiliate not an SS gym. Also there are obviously other gyms in Brussels you double moron.
>Brussels
>only weightlifting gym is ss
stop the cap
>major euro city
>only one weightlifting gym
>its a sharting strength affiliate
you deserve whatever shit that comes to you in your life

tl;dr
He looks strong though. Which is the point of SS.
Now he can move to PPL and start cutting fat. Seems perfectly fine.
How's this anywhere near junk volume?
two sets of junk per workout. The point of the program is to build your strength up and your CNS to be able to handle it before moving on to a different program. That's it, that is all its supposed to do. doing five sets of five will just build up exhaustion and not have any benefit.
