Checked some shit he says and yes starch does not convert to fat efficiently BUT none of the guidelines acknowledge that (not in US (afaik) and not here in Finland) they simply tell to check calories. No I don't believe in some global conspiracy about it. herp derp every guvernment hid the fackts

Does de novo lipogenesis come with a calorie "discount" because the actual process takes energy?

Does your body prefer to just increase its metabolism and burn off the carbs rather than make new fat?

Yes and yes but not with fructose. Fructose doesn't increase metabolism and sits in the bloodstream causing inflammation and slowly converting into fat/glucose.

the principles of biology haven't changed and never will.
starch is a carbohydrate chain that is harder to break down than disaccharides (lactose for example) because acids can't access the bonds between the chains and need to start at the ends to break them down. basically the starch that does get broken down into sugars will turn into fat if you still eat too many calories.

Not a direct objection to your post, but for all intensive purposes nobody can eat a shitton of just starch + protein without added fat/sugar. I tried to eat 500g spaghetti + some chicken meat + some veggies/herbs (like a couple tomatos) over the course of a day, it's fricking impossible.

Not really. Simple sugar still doesn't convert to much fat. Fat turns to fat. The real issue is hyper processed, calorie dense food has tons of both. Fats and oils are added to everything to help add and preserve flavor as well as soften packaged food.

For example, over 50% of the calories in doritos are from fat.

Please break down how fat turns to body fat biologically. You've counter claimed that it just does with no evidence or explanation.

It just goes into the fat cell. Like you can do a biopsy and say that's salmon fat, that's beef fat. Virtually all the fat in your body was fat at the time you ate it.

            > Like you can do a biopsy and say that's salmon fat, that's beef fat
You can't. You can identify types of fatty acids. However, there is no way to distinguish between a fatty acid from a piece of beef and the same fatty acid from a piece of lamb.
            >Virtually all the fat in your body was fat at the time you ate it.
With the exception of someone who overeats a high carb diet whose excess carbs are converted to fat. Then most of their fat comes from carbs.

Lol it's much less costly for the body to store dietary fat, which is mostly triglycerides, than to go through de no lipogenesis. It's a known fact beyond dispute. But please post some healthline blog post claiming monounsaturated fats make you lose fat (and ignore it's because they are satiating and make you consume less calories).

Fat gets broken down by the digestive system and taken into the bloodstream where it literally just gets transported into fat cells. Not sure why you're even asking this question.

starch IS SUGAR. starch is a complex long chain molecule made of sugars, it breaks down into sugars. it became a diet fad because it turns out that your body cannot process nearly as much starch as it can "simple" (smaller) sugars.

seriously you people can't google even one thing? there are plenty of free resources. even grade 8 biochem books can explain this concept to you in GREAT DETAIL.

          Anonymous

Black person you're moronic lmao. Yeah starch is a long chain molecule made of glucose. It is slowly digested, causes satiety, raises metabolism, loses iirc 30% kcal (maybe less) when converted to fat, and is used to fill up muscle and liver glycogen storage (ąbout 600g in total but in practice they don't get fully depleted unless you train a lot). The rate of uptake into muscle is limited so when you ingest a disaccharide or a monosaccharide it is digested too fast and some of it goes into fat but also raises metabolism enough to cause a sugar high.
Fructose does nethier of above and just sits in the blood and slowly fills up liver glycogen and gets converted to fat and also kills you.

I have done it fine idk waht your deal is

You ate a kilo of bread without added sugar/fat and didn't feel full for the rest of the day? That's 4 average baguettes. What is YOUR deal?

I didn't mention fructose you fricking schizo.
you're just being argumentative because I didn't instantly see how your poor explanation was meant to be perceived in your head.
take a breath, look at my point with nuance and consider that what I say is a generalization of the process.
yeah, if you exercise, glucose doesn't turn into fat in your liver. but if you're like 70% of the US population (never jogs or walks + over eats) then it's turning into fat.

              Anonymous

I said I don't have a direct objection to your post but pointed out that while starch is composed of sugars in practice it gives high satiety and makes it hard to overeat within the context of mcdougall which is "no sugar/fat" -> no fat gain despite eating starch/lean protein/vegetables ad libitum. IDK why this angers you so much.

I mentioned fructose because starch is composed of glucose (a sugar) which is less fattening than fructose (a sugar, it's a very important distinction that I pointed out because you kept saying STARCH = SUGARS, potentially conflating them.

I'm just tilted from video games and working out.

fructose is a weird one because it uses a different metabolism in the body (different enzymes) so it's not that big of a problem, especially since most fruits have a lot of fiber which helps in preventing absorption.

Did the experiment. What I ate:
    350g french bread with marmelad
    0,5L scottish blended whiskey
    1,5L coca-cola (sugar of course)
    about 300g candy
    6 small carrots
2dl sour cream dips (6% fat)
200g spicy sausage wilhelm carolina reaper but I poured most of fat in drain
    1 apple
    1L beer 4,7%

I did not exit apartment all day.
    Weight gain: 200g
Ergo: McDougall is a liar, weigth was gained. MOT.

Looking over Mcdougall's stuff, it seems that concentrated protein (particularly animal protein, but also soya) is bad because it steals calcium from your bones or something

        Then eat more calcium

          Anonymous

Mcdougall says it's not possible to get enough calcium from food to cover a high protein diet. You physically can't eat enough plants. Dairy is supposedly a net loss for calcium due to its own protein content. And supplements are ineffective and cause cancer or whatever.

            >Dairy is supposedly a net loss for calcium due to its own protein content.
Completely absurd. Why would nature create a product to feed children that removes calcium from their skeleton when they need it the most? It doesn't make any sense and people just have a weird vendetta against milk for some reason. I drink 6 liters of milk a week and my skeleton and teeth have never been so sturdy.

              >Why would nature create a product to feed children that removes calcium from their skeleton when they need it the most
Milk is meant for baby cows. It affects humans like that not Cows

Again, why would humans be less able to handle proteins than cows, who exclusively feed on a low-protein diet?

                Anonymous

Its an irrelevant question. Cow milk has a nutrient profile that is needed for baby cows, not for humans.

                >who exclusively feed on a low-protein diet?
They dont. They ferment grass in their 4 stomachs and produce amino acids they need and short chain fats. They dont eat a "low protein diet". They eat a diet with an appropriate amount of protein for their species.

The influence of the meat and dairy industries pales in comparison to that of the grain industry, sugar industry, Monsanto, etc. Yeah, industrial animal farming results in lower quality products but that doesn't mean that animal products are inherently bad, they're just about the only nutritious thing to eat.

John Mchomosexual has been selling this shitty diet plan for decades to moronic vegans and fat fricks who can't figure out how to eat properly.
Do you notice there's no massive group of people who look good and are IST who adhere to this diet? Do you notice when you see people talking about it that they're all pathetic skinnyfats who think they're "healthy" just because they finally got under 280 lbs.?
CICO rules over all, there is no calorie-dense food you can eat in unlimited quantities and not get fat, anyone telling you this is a fricking moron trying to steal your shekels and you shouldn't be dumb enough to fall for it.

I'm interested in those and thought maybe you are a knower. Worth a try.

I can answer a few questions from a systemic point of view however.

Amino acids don't survive long in the body, they are not stored in any way. they are used up or made on the spot for their function.

metabolic derivatives are also necessary for anything to work. hence why things like keto aren't good for you.
without carbs, you cannot actually break down fats into carbs or ketones at a good enough speed.
generally speaking, the notion of a "balanced diet" is golden. overeating sugars will frick up how your insulin works, and thus frick up other metabolic processes that require sugar.

          >Do blood sugar/insulin/liver glycogen impact conversion of aminos into glucose during liver passes and by how much
yes and depends on your levels. carbs turn into fats when glycogen is high. AAs spread evenly, ideally to muscles for protein synth to grow.
aminos turn into glucose as a result of low glucose. that's why protein is also important. it acts as a buffer system between fats and carbs.
