Just found out I have to have elbow surgery and it'll take me out of lifting for a year or longer

I have ulnar subluxation which means my nerve moronicly snaps over my funny bone every single time I bend my elbow past 90 degrees

I'm basically fricked for at least a year and I have to gain all my strength back after that

Good bye bros.

Your strength will come back fast. Muscle memory is legit.

Just take the time to focus on refining other habits that you can work on. Whatever you do, don't let yourself go. I learned that lesson the hard way.

you can always train for t-rex mode all year then when you're able to do upper body you can focus more on that than legs next year since you'll be so much farther ahead

      im not sure exactly

i know it happens to pitchers often, not sure if its a long term use injury or what

the nerve basically slips out of the tunnel its supposed to sit in and sits under your funny bone instead

when you bend your elbow, the nerve needs to stretch but doesnt have space so it snaps over the funny bone then back

      Can still do abs right?

only bodyweight stuff, nothing involved grip

bruh how is he going to calitsthenics when he can't bend his arm. The majority of calisthenics is done from a bar where you literally behind ur elbow.

Wait I think I also have this thing with my nerve moving above and below my elbow when bending it
Why do you need to have surgery for it ?

every time it snaps its creating micro damage (similar to muscles getting damaged) but nerves recover way slower, eventually you will have bad nerve damage (my friend couldnt move his elbow for normal things at one point)

Isn't it funny, the small imperfections in our body that make things impossible? I've got a left delt that isn't pulled all the way over the joint.

Anyway, a year sucks, but it's also just a year. Keep your cardio up, do bodyweight stuff, swim if you can.

When you come back you may not even be all that into lifting.

I wish I had done judo and boxing rather than lift. But I was poor, so.

A year is really nothing, focus on another area of training like cardio. You'll get all your gym progress and strength back in a year of going to the gym again, probably less
