Apparently my cholesterol level is increased. My doctor tried to prescribe me satins in the past, she's gonna try do it again, i just know.
How bad are my numbers?

No shit but thay doesn't reverse the damage or change the fact that the stations dramatically reduce incidents of multiple types of vascular disease from stroke to heart attack.

Statins improve outcomes by reducing inflammation and antithrombotic properties, not by reducing cholesterol.

              Anonymous

I didn't say they worked by reducing cholesterol your statement is correct. But the high LDL does correlate with higher risk of vascular incident which is why we give them to patients with high LDL.

                Anonymous

I concede that elevated LDL is correlated with vascular Inflammation, but I'm convinced it's a symptom, not the cause.
Elevated blood sugar destroying the glycocalyx, chronic hypertension damaging the vascular epithelium via mechanical stress, autoimmune conditions etc..
It remains true that many people have high LDL without a concominent incidence of CVD, and these people typically DONT have the other risk factors I mentioned.

                >many people have high LDL without a concominent incidence of CVD
Maybe some such as plenty of people smoke without incidents of cancer but the drastically increased risk of vascular incident in those with familial hypercholestremia, despite being normal in other health markers, does not support your argument.

                >people with a mutation that massively reduces their body's ability to reabsorb lipids once they have entered the bloodstream are at higher risk of vascular diseases
                No shit anon.
Thats like pointing to people with sickle cell disease as evidence that blood is bad for you.
People with FH score higher in virtually every blood test for inflammation. Their chronically elevated LDL level puts their body under immense stress compared to the average person. You're skirting around the fact that with familiar hypercholestremia, the serum LDL is typically above 200mg/dL, and even as high as 400mg/dL. That's a completely different ball park to the 146mg/dL of OP.

                >The screening for FH is vital as all biomarkers associated with atherogenesis are higher in these subjects and FH also independently predict biomarkers of endothelial activation and oxidative stress. Furthermore, despite not fulfilling the diagnostic criteria for FH, related unaffected family members that may not phenotypically express the mutation may still be at risk of developing CAD as reflected from the enhanced inflammatory and endothelial activation status observed in this group
Having 300mg/dL LDL because your cells can't remove it from your blood is not the same as having 120-160mg/dL but your body can metabolise it as normal.

                Anonymous

I am metabolically healthy. I have a normal insulin response. I can binge on carbohydrates and my body metabolises it quite well and I don't suffer any lingering ill effects.
Following your logic, the existence of type 1 diabetics means that I still ought not to eat carbohydrates.
Dont use mutant minorities to draw conclusions about the majority. We already went through this when we applied the findings of studies on salt-sensitive hypertensive individuals and generalised it to the whole population.

                https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7968073/
                >The present trial was designed to evaluate the effect of cholesterol lowering with simvastatin on mortality and morbidity in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). 4444 patients with angina pectoris or previous myocardial infarction and serum cholesterol 5.5-8.0 mmol/L on a lipid-lowering diet were randomised to double-blind treatment with simvastatin or placebo.
                >The relative risk of death in the simvastatin group was 0.70 (95% CI 0.58-0.85, p = 0.0003). The 6-year probabilities of survival in the placebo and simvastatin groups were 87.6% and 91.3%, respectively. There were 189 coronary deaths in the placebo group and 111 in the simvastatin group (relative risk 0.58, 95% CI 0.46-0.73), while noncardiovascular causes accounted for 49 and 46 deaths, respectively. 622 patients (28%) in the placebo group and 431 (19%) in the simvastatin group had one or more major coronary events.
The effect is not huge, and I am not convinced it is due to lowering cholesterol: as I stated above, I am convinced that the OBSERVED (not purported) benefits of statin treatment stem from their strong antinflammatory and anticoagulant effects.

It is as simple as just keep up with decent cardio and watch your fat intake from shit like bacon. Mixing up oatmeal versus eggs. Not replacing one for the other, literally keep balance.

Before you go on statins, get an ultrasound to actually check for atherosclerosis and get a more detailed lipid panel to check how much of your LDL is glycated. High LDL or high total cholesterol are not inherently bad, there are other factors that MAKE it bad.

LDL is modestly elevated, total cholesterol modestly elevated.

Your doctor wanting to prescribe a statin for this is insane. This is likely due to poor diet and lack of exercise. Things to note:

In some people cholesterol can go up due to diet. You may be one of these people. Cut back on high saturated fat/high cholesterol stuff for 3 months and get a repeat test.

Alcohol raises serum cholesterol by harming the liver's ability to process/create cholesterol. If you drink, stop or severely limit your intake for 3 months and retake.

Other metabolic diseases (such as pre-diabetes) can raise cholesterol. I assume you didn't have high blood sugar so this can be ruled out.

If I had to guess you probably drink a little much and you're also overweight. Both of these will cause cholesterol to see modest rises. A statin is generally given for insanely high cholesterol and after trying diet and exercise. Your doctor may be trying to get you on a statin because a diet and exercise plan failed. If you're unable to keep to a plan it may be an option, but in my opinion you just need to work on that.

Sounds to me like the doc has learned his lesson. If people they were willing to exercise and improve their lifestyle, they wouldn't have the problem in the first place.
He's probably handing out statins like candy because people are moronicly non-compliant.
