Every year for the past 5 years or so I get a severe sunburn like this. Am I going to get cancer when I get older?

Mother fricker you obviously dont have the genetics for tanning. You need to prepare for the sun before it assrapes you. Unless you like laying on the floor covered in aloe vera.

      >go out in the sun for 30 minutes or less if you're really pale
      >leave the sun
      >repeat until tanned
      >now you can stay in the sun for longer without being burned
I guess if you're defective and can't produce any melanin it wouldn't work but other than that it doesn't matter how white you are

Is there a routine for this? Like 20 minutes in sun, 20 minutes rest. 5 sets? How long does it take to go from base tan to dark tan, can I do it in one day? I've gone to the river to swim a few times in the last month so I am a little tan, but I have to wear sun screen because I'm there for hours.

moron anon doesn't understand stress and adaptation and that repeated exposure to the same stimulus (30 minutes in the sun) doesn't result in further adaptations (more tanning).
        I bet you're a dyel, haha

I have pretty decent tanning genetics (slav) but I was outside for 8+ hours on the beach and boardwalk so I got assraped. I never get sunburnt when I'm outside in the forest or fishing.

Last two times I got really burned I had huge water blisters. Just going to avoid the sun when possible like I have been for the last ten years. Maybe if I gain enough I'll use mt2 and a tanning bed. Seems like more trouble than it's worth. I spent 30 minutes by the pool talking to a girl I met last month and was red for a couple of days. The sun just seems to hate the shit out of some people. She wasn't even worth it, probably not hard to hit but she had two kids. What the frick.

I believe the sun burn isn’t what gives you cancer but LONG exposure to UV radiation that doesn’t kill skin cells (tanning). When you sun burn the cells have died and are replaced by new cells while tanning the cells are only damaged and heal themselves rather than be replaced. When a cell heals itself it has a chance of mutating which can become cancerous, when a cell is totally replaced it’s likelyhood of mutating is lowered.

Sunscreen inteferes with hormones and it's not even that effective. People only turn into lobsters because they're out multiple hours in the sun, often exercising or swimming
Guess what, sunscreen doesn't laster very long about 1-2 hours. Less if you sweat a lot or get wet, so you'd need to constantly be reaplying it

You guys can make up all your bullshit lies about sunscreen all you want. I have been spending almost every weekend of July and August out in the sun and heat (usually 80s-90s degrees F) for most of the day, like 9 AM thru 5-6 PM doing sports refereeing. I have very tan skin and I apply sunscreen every single time, usually once in the morning and once in afternoon, and when I do, I never get burned, only more tan. One Saturday I forgot to bring sunscreen and I got badly sunburned. So just stop it with the lies about the estrogen and other complete bullshit "science" that everyone on this board full of engineers believes.

Cool made up bullshit bro. And anyway DUDE U GOTTA REAPPLY IT BECAUSE YOU CAN SWEAT IT OFF DATS MEANS IT DONT WORK!!!!

yup, even black people need suncream if they haven't been out in the sun a while, having a tan already doesn't mean you'll be fine

Eliminate PUFAs from your diet. One of the ways they measure sunburn severity is by measuring the levels of oxidized linoleic acid in the burn. Tucker Goodrich is a good starting place for learning about this. Until then, stay the duck out of the sun, anon.

depends on your genetics. do you have family history of skin cancer?

sunburn like this is already seen as burns 1st grade.

i had two sunburns who were half as bad as op pic and those belong already to the most painful expiriences i had in my life.

the skin remembers EVERY sunburn and every tan is actually a desperation reaction of it.

I don't burn that severely but every spring I let myself get sort of roasted as a base coat.

People with a lot of melanin living in countries with higher latitude still have to do this because they can't get enough vitamin D with short sun exposure, unlike white people.

where did the seed oils = sunburn meme come from

      Anonymous

Its pseudoscience but also potentially rooted in some truth.
Your skin metabolises lipids, especially with UV exposure, and more PUFA in the blood makes for a greater release of inflammatory metabolites coinciding with the typical sunburn inflammation.
Consuming large quantities of coconut oil (the only food with 90+% saturated fat, animal fat has more mufa/pufa than you think) shows the opposite effect and makes the inflammation from sunburn way more tolerable to the average whitey
