KETO

My dad fell for the keto meme. He is lazy fricker with no discipline who wants an excuse to eat bacon every single day. I told him he is fat because he simply eats too much. I have literally never met someone who did sports/lifting/any physical activity who didn't eat plenty of carbs, if anything actual athletes eat a TON of carbs

Keto is a "diet" for people who are looking for the easiest way to eat like pigs and never put in any effort to become healthier

correct but it does have a satiating effect on appetite, so there's a chance your dad might lose weight anyway if he actually sticks with it (sounds like he won't)

My dad also fell for it and ended losing 50 pounds, what an idiot.

??? I've tried keto on 5 separate occasions and never lasted longer than 2 weeks. It's taken more willpower and energy out of me than quitting smoking, quitting drugs, getting into shape, and eating traditionally healthily. Didn't fail at any of those but failed at sticking to keto. Have you tried keto before saying this?

So you just go online and talk shit about your dad to strangers ? I'd call you a Black person but they usually don't have a father so.. I'm not sure what you are but it's not good.

Shit irritates me to no avail. Keto is a valid, if somewhat disgusting, diet for managing epilepsy but munching bacon isn't keto. It's almost allways idiots doing it who have no clue instead off people that actually benefit from it.

I've been on keto for over 2 years now and lost a ton of weight. This is my diet for life. It wasn't hard to switch since my diet was mostly meat and diary anyway. I just had to cut out bread and soft drinks (never ate pasta or rice that much)

what does this have to do about the claim that your brain doesn't need glucose? this is your brain on keto, eat some carbs, your brain will appreciate it

The ketogenic diet was developed in the 20s as therapy for pediatric epilepsy morons.
I only refuted the claim that the ketogenic diet doesn't work, because it works great and has a good long term effect on epileptic seizures.
As for the brain needing glucose, the ketogenic diet is prescribed for more than 2 years and without any side effects relating to the brain.
Leaving all that aside anyone with more than an ounce of grey matter one can survive without any glucose source like during a fast. Although you've already more than proven your lack of mental capabilities.
                >In healthy middle-aged subjects, an i.v. infusion of BHB caused approximately 14% decrease in cerebral glucose consumption while oxygen use was unchanged, suggesting that ketone bodies, even when supplied acutely, enter the brain and may be utilized immediately as an alternative fuel to glucose [51].
                >Similar cerebral metabolic changes have also been demonstrated in young individuals [52], however, at lower infusion rates, and thus lower BHB concentrations, glucose uptake does not seem to be affected [53]. Together, this suggests an acute cerebral glucose-sparing effect when ketone availability is high.
                >Comparable metabolic adaptations, where ketones substitute glucose, have also been reported in individuals on ketogenic diets [8]. During prolonged fasting, a more pronounced shift from glucose to ketone body metabolism is reported with acetoacetate and BHB supplying more than 50% of the brain’s energy [54], thereby replacing glucose as the main fuel supply.
                >Availability seems crucial to cerebral uptake of ketone bodies during acute infusions in humans [55], whereas animal studies suggest that adaptation to increased levels of ketone bodies during fasting is accompanied by an increase in the brain’s capacity for ketone uptake, at least partly explaining the vast increase in ketone uptake after prolonged fasting [37,56].
