The funny part is that the 30 minute memezone is something you pay extra to go to. Like the normal weights section of the gym at least has a dumb bell rack, several smith machines, cable machines, and all of the machines in the 30 minute memezone and then some. It makes no sense that anyone would actually want to go in there and try to speed through a workout in 30 minutes (why even?) but they hold it out there like UPGRADE FROM THE $10/mo PACKAGE TO THE $29.99/mo PACKAGE SO YOU CAN SIT IN A TANNING BOOTH, MASSAGE CHAIR, AND WORK OUT IN THE 30 MINUTE MEMEZONE.

Since I'm trapped working out at a planet fitness (it's the only place in town) I get to see this firsthand. It's almost never even used. A few months ago the 3 in 30 minute workout fell down and it's been the 0 minute workout ever since, and my brother can't stop making jokes about people going in there and then just walking away, having completed their 0 minute workout. Anyway, no, I've never seen anyone eat foot much less a pizza in one of these places but then again I don't show up until after most people go to bed.

The memezone is free at my planet fitness. It usually empty and people just use some machines inside it whenever the regular machines are full.

The 30 min workout zone has been free at every PF that I have been to. Also it may vary by location but the one I use has actually nice massage chairs and hydrotherapy beds, if you use those every time you work out it's actually not a bad deal.

At mine it's listed as for "black card members" along with the massage chairs and tanning booths. All three of which are empty pretty much 100% of the time. Also the place is like 50% cardio machines which are only at maximum ever 25% full while the weight lifting section is jammed full of people and could use an additional dumb bell rack and more smith machines but oh well.

I would never workout here strictly for the lunk alarm.

It's all for show. I've begrudgingly been trapped at one of these places for a couple of years and it's never ever gone off because who the frick would want to disturb the living shit out of everyone working out because some guy is grunting while lifting.

I pay for the black card since its my primary gym and I go to multiple locations. I wanted to use the massager more for kicks but never get around to it. Honestly decent value for me but I'm a dyel

The massagers are nice. Obviously not a replacement for actual human touch but for something you can do for free every time you work out it's pretty good.

I went there once when it the only local gym before I moved into a new house and they 'lunked' me for dropping 50lb dumbells while doing bicep chest press. I just ignored them. A bunch of fat girls were pointing. I don't know if I was grunting or not. I don't care. Glad I didn't stay at that gym since it was probably a matter of time before I got kicked out.

it's free and mostly a waste of space because almost no one does the actual circuit and especially don't use the steps. sometimes people go in there to use some of the machines out of order when the floor is more crowded

wish they'd just throw a handful more smith machines in there

    FUN FACT:

Planet fitness has the worst possible looking color scheme (purple and yellow) because it’s extremely irritating to look at

They draw customers in with cheap yearly memberships and extremely clean equipment but then drive them out by making their brain and eyes hurt to reduce equipment use (thereby lowering costs) and lower the amount of gym goers, perpetuating lower crowds that allow for more memberships without over exceeding capacity

I realized the other day that they have the lunk alarm and no barbells in order to discourage people who would actually work out there from joining. It keeps it more vacant when it’s just boss babes.

I've been going for a while and never heard the lunk alarm once. I think you really really have to be a shithead to get it at any reasonable place

    LUNK ALERT

No, but there's also kind of a hard ceiling on what sort of training you can do there. There's hardly any free weights and absolutely no barbells outside of the smith machines

Does PF have a chest press and hack squat?
You could probably get pretty fricking far going to PF provided you were consistent (which 99% of pf-goers aren't) and not trying to powerlift or can already incline bench hundos.

      Anonymous

No hack squat just leg presses but they do have a chest press. I just do dumbbell chest presses myself since I haven't maxed out the DBs yet. They go up to I think 75 or 100 depending on which

        Anonymous

Yeah its a problem for me, 75lb dumb bells are the max at mine, so dumbbell press is useless to me now. Still, even though smith machines are meh you can do some decent incline pressing with them and load the weight up quite a bit, so it's not all bad. Besides, for a lot of dumb bell stuff I do for shoulders or chest I'm not maxing out the dumb bell weights so it's fine. The cable machines are pretty good too when it's not crowded. Low row, rope for triceps and face pulls can use the adjustable cables from each machine to do a bunch of different curl and fly moves.

The biggest shortcoming of PF is no good way to do squats (smith machine? Yeah, not "good"), no good way to do deadlifts, no real barbell rack and being trapped with smith machines, and the upper limit of dumb bells. Still, I'm not trying to become Mr. Universe so it works alright. $10.00 per month is fair enough for that.

My only complaints are no bench and the people that are there consistently and take 20 minutes to do 4 sets on something I wish to use.

there certainly seems to be an abundance of people who take 5 minute breaks between light weight sets and spend a lot of time scrolling through shit on their phones instead of improving their muscles

Not really. Only noticeable downside is the 150 leaving fee. Pretty much forces you to never break off your contract. Scummy, but in reality what does it matter? If you needed higher level lifting you wouldn't be at a PF to begin with.

It's how they snag you, yeah. They do everything they can not to mention it. It's also how they afford the 10 a month thing. If you quit you have to pay a years worth to get out. So no one ever quits, because it makes more sense to not.

I live in a town where this is the only gym aside from a CrossFit gym that closes by 9pm and charges 4 times the price to work out with weirdos trying to injure themselves.
