let's settle this: are kicks useful for self defense?

let's settle this: are kicks useful for self defense? there seem to be 2 camps: some say throwing kicks is suicidal, others say they work (though usually it's muai thai practitioners who say this).

Just avoid Black folk, hispanics and muslims and self-defense is not an issue unless you're an absolute c**t.

If you're not trained a real leg kick will frick you up. Forrest Griffin was just messing with a guy and kicked him like 20%. It broke the dudes femur.

Is low kick as good as they say? I didn't know much about it, I was surprised to learn you can frick up your shin bone if you aim it wrong, and that fighters usually aim for the thigh with it simply not to break their leg (though I guess there are other reasons). Thigh doesn't sound like the most vulnerable area of the body.

It's probably one of the places that would hurt least but it still hurts bad, and if it's safer for the kicker then yeah it's a good move
        >T. Have received some painful kicks THROUGH pads

it's basically the only soft part you can hit on the leg and avoid hurtin yourself, but still a strong hit on the thigh can impair your movement because you don't feel the muscle anymore

        Yes of course they are
There's plenty of videos showing kicks by both untrained normies and actual trained fighters
I promise I could buckle your leg with a kick and leave you unable to put weight on it. Do you think you'll be able to fight on after that?

There's a nerve that runs through the thigh, kick hard enough and you ruin it
As well as, the thigh is just a nice big soft (compared to bone) juicy target. You can kick a thigh as hard as you can kick a heavy bag, that's what it feels like

not sure about that at all. it's one thing if you're jumping around on a bouncy ring in a pair of shorts with a strict set of rules. it's another thing when you're in jeans on solid ground in a fight where anyone can catch your leg and the next thing you know you're in a hospital.

Youve clearly mever trained anything. Why do you morons keep regurgitating the same shit? Number 1: you vastly underestimate how difficult it is to catch a kick. Number 2: if you're trying to catch a leg kick you're clearly moronic

well, I'm not saying I trained anything. I guess maybe people think of TKD style kicks when they say they're easy to catch? I don't know. there was a thread some time ago, there was a big argument about this too. some were 100% convinced your kick will get caught or you'll lose balance and fall on the ground. others were 100% convinced otherwise.

If you're throwing a kick with no set up then you're likely untrained. If the opponent is trained, they'll check you and, odds are, you won't continue the conflict. If the opponent is untrained then they aren't catching shit regardless.

If you're trained then you're throwing a kick with set up. If the opponent is trained then they might check you and the fight will continue. If the opponent is untrained it's irrelevant because they're getting their shit pushed in regardless.

It's a moronic argument that only persists because the vast majority of IST have never sparred a day in their life and are just LARPing.

If you're able to kick them, you're able to run away, which is still the most effective self defense to this day
Besides that, yeah kicking someone in the nuts usually works

low kicks and front kicks ar fine
low risk high reward since most people dont expect it and they dont leave you wide open or in danger of falling yoruself
frontkick to the stomache makes Black folk fly away a meter onto the ground
enough time to run away or if not possbile finish him
low side kicks to the knee will leave people unable to stand

most people dont know hwo to defend against kicks nor do the expect it

now taekwondo style flying and spining kicks or anything to the head really might work but they are way to risky

calf kicks are very low risk and high reward and will frick up anybody who's not used to them thats why they're kind of the meta in MMA right now

if you ever find yourself in a bad situation a single good calf kick will shut down their foot and they can't even properly walk properly let alone run after you and since you're kicking so close to the ground theres very little chance they can even catch unless they were anticipating it and even then it's very hard to catch since its so low on the leg

If you think about it low kicks are actually more reliable than punches because you don't have to think about the height of their chin. I doubt I'd be able to punch a 6'4 dude in the face with enough force to matter but I bet I can kick one of his legs sideways and frick his balance even just for a second.
