Lets talk colognes for gym since its about to start getting hot again.

Let’s talk colognes for gym since it’s about to start getting hot again. Looking at Davidoff Cool Water the OG, anyone recommend any other colognes I can find for cheap at discounters (under 30 USD/100mL) that’ll last the whole day from work-gym and are decently strong so I don’t smell like ass come ye old Texas summer?

I used to wear cologne in high school in the 1990's. Men shouldn't smell foofy. A little deodorant is all you should smell like.

Most fragrances that will last all day are too strong for the gym. What you’re going to want is a small bottle in your gym bag. For me, it’s Azzaro Chrome. It’s a very clean scent that won’t gas out the gym. Inexpensive too if you shop at discounters. Other options would be lighter scents like CK One, Dior Homme Cologne, Versace Man Eau Fraiche.

Yeah, allure Homme sport is really good, but despite the name it isn’t really a sporty fragrance. It isn’t a beast mode scent but after you started to sweat it might be too cloying in the air around you

The floral notes are a little sharp and may become unpleasant with the body heat of intense exercise. After the gym though it’s a solid pick. If you want something with lavender, Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier might be a safer choice.

GIT was made by the same perfumer. Supposedly, he had a disagreement with Creed and then improved the recipe and took it to Davidoff and made one of the most popular perfumes ever.

I'm waiting on my GIT clone to compared to Cool Water. Cool water is not bad to me, but it smells green and blue and chemical all at once. It reminds me of harsh cleaning products, and is pleasant once in a while but not an every day scent.

I also like Dior Homme Sport and Chanel Allure Sport but not for the gym. From the other recommendations I also like Replica Jazz Club. I've had Chrome Azzaro before but I'm just not a fan of blue colognes anymore. For the gym I use Joop Homme 2022 edition. Floral notes and a little bit oriental, it just seems to be a good fit with my natural smell and is very inoffensive and still makes me smell good when I sweat. When I use soapy colognes and sweat it makes me smell even worse than if I was not using any cologne.

I think my definition of blue colognes was just wrong. To me that meant more like soapy, tangy scents, more like shower gel freshness with less sweetness. I don't really associate aquatic notes with Allure Sport but I'm probably just a pleb.

Most people spray massive amounts of cologne before going to for example dance clubs where you usually get sweaty and there are a fricking lot of people there, yet everyone considers that normal.

And if you think that going to a club with cologne is inappropriate, frick off

Also if you don't spray at least 5-7 times you're wasting money, nobody around you is going to smell anything.

There are different types of cologne. The weakest (eau de Toilette), is meant to not last that long (like you in bed) and needs to be refreshed throughout the day. Hence the name "eau de toilette". Back in the day you would spray a bit of it after a visit to the restroom.
Cologne has different % from 2-3% (EdT) to 15% (real cologne).

Ehh, it doesn't really work like that, It's an OK rule of thumb but there are many exceptions.

Some colonges use ingredients that don't need to be used in high concentrations because they would start messing with your nose or smelling bad. Sometimes you can't recreate a smell that you want to achieve using high concentrations.

Next time you're in a fragrance store try comparing Paco Rabanne 1 Million EDT with it's EDP edition, and the Elixir edition with is a perfume extract. They smell really different from each other, because of the reason above, they had to change the formulation.

Also I have tried EDP's that are weak as frick, and many EDT's that are as strong or stronger than a lot of my EDP's.

          Anonymous

Things have changed for sure, but 200 years ago or so, when people lacked hygiene, this was the rule for fragrances. EdT was used after almost every restroom visit cuz people had no daily shower and stuff...

I used to wear cologne a lot, but honestly I get more compliments from women when I just shower with old spice swagger body wash and put a few swipes of swagger deodorant on my pits and chest. Lasts about 12 hours. Swagger smells predominantly like cedarwood and soap. The projection is nowhere near that of cologne; about 1 foot at most; but I find that often works in my favor.
