Lifting to Supplement Martial Arts

I currently train Muay Thai 3x a week (Mon,Wed,Fri) at a gym for 1-2 hours each day. This involves technique, bag work, sparring, as well as some calisthenics (push ups, sit ups, pull ups). I also stationary bike 10-20 miles in a 30-60 minute time span on Tuesday and Thursday. I have a membership to a "normal" gym that I haven't taken advantage of in a while, and I was thinking of adding 1x a week strength training on Saturday.

Any advice on a routine? Goals are general health and strength, as well as helping my training. Is adding 1x a week strength training even worth it?

Bending over backwards looks kind of cringe and unstable. Do muay thaiers really?

Fighters are usually extremely flexible, and there's no ground game in Muay Thai to be worried about. Better to dodge that head kick than try to just mitigate damage.

You're usually not supposed to. A pro like him probably has a good reason to break the rules. Like he might have thrust his hips forward meaning that when he comes back to stance he'll be in a good position for a strike. He also might have fricked up already and that was his only way to avoid a head kick. It might be exhibition and they're fricking around.

IDK I'm not good at muay thai

leaning back is definitely standard among advanced fighters. Just learn your range before you try it because normally you pump the lead hand down to counter balance as if you were throwing a lead round and if you frick up the range you're eating that shit.

Its funny that you are complaining about Muay Thai fighters being unstable since the Muay Thai scoring system heavily penalizes falling over and losing balance.

Considering how often I see MT fighters dodge head kicks in this way I presume its a good idea, since they have every reason to stay balanced.

If you think about it what is he vulnerable to in that moment? He is going to erect himself before his opponent will finish the kick.

I mean it's unstable in a real fight. I guess muay thai is just a sport, so it's okay.

Why are you seething so hard? It's just like boxing, they do some dumb shit because they know opponents wouldn't legally be able to hit them if they do it. It's just another game. You wouldn't see them doing this kind of thing in MMA, although that also has its own (lesser) sport rules.

The underlying assumption in this post is that anything that isn't "no rules at all" isn't a real fight, that it's just a game. You say it yourself by saying that MMA is also just a sport, not a real fight because there are rules. The logical conclusion to this train of thought is that any rules whatsoever make something "Just a sport". In that case, there's no point training any martial arts, and you should be training with a firearm instead.

It's a fricking moronic mindset, and this same conversation has been had a thousand times on IST and other communities that discuss martial arts. You already know this though, because you're just shitposting.

you absolutely see lean backs in mma, and it is not dangerous to do unless you frick up the range. If you see the kick coming up top, then they are committed into that kick and can't punish the lean back. If you make them miss the kick they are going to be partially facing away from you and absolutely at your mercy. You don't strike, why are you joining a discussion on striking techniques.

no one's going to be throwing head kicks at you in a real fight you moron, and if they do then you can lean back. You don't just lean back randomly and hope a head kick is coming.

How could it be more unstable on DA STREETZ than in a professional MT fight?

Its literally the same body posture, except you are in public vs in a ring.

On DA STREETZ people at least people arent going to be good enough to exploit your momentarily unstable posture. Vs, a pro MT fighter might throw a head kick to deliberately destabalize you so they can capitalize on the moment.

even then if they completely miss as opposed to hitting the guard they're fricked. If you block and they hit the guard hard they can off balance you and capitalize, if you lean back they're gonna land facing away from you and out of stance so they can't follow with a superman punch.

The guy in the OP picture is moronic? Yeah, his back is almost parallel to the floor with his hips thrust out compared to the video you posted of the guy crouching with his knees and nearly vertical.
Anyway, this is why people don't like homosexual martial sportists.

Only do machines or low impact compound(low weight, high reps).
Your bones and tendons are already stressed from all the shit you're doing, doesn't need heavy compounds on top of that.
An upper lower split would be the best, even if you do it on 2 days a week.

I do martial arts, and lately my ass / outer hip tissue has been hurting a lot lately. I do tons of kicking so I am pretty sure its the muscles relevant to elevating my leg sideways that are getting exhausted. Those muscles specifically would be oblique chain of muscles from the top of my butt, to my outer hip, all the way up to my back.

A remedy I have stumbled upon is body weight squats and adductor training. I think I have been overpowering the outer hip/thigh muscles by kicking, and under developing the muscles interior to my thigh by just not using them. Squats do a good job activating and evening out all the muscles in that area.
