yeah no shit, its because some people have too many SERT transporters that remove serotonin from the synaptic cleft too fast. also 95% of your serotonin is not in your brain. nice headline reading OP. Black personbrain

There is a very simple proof why anyone who advocates for any specific diet as the "ultimate/best" diet is completely wrong.
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutritional_genomics

As a personal example, Ray Peat is completely off base for me specifically as any form of sugars are extremely bad for my gut. They give me epic diarrhoea even in small quantities. This includes basically all fruits except for small quantities of berries. It includes honey, sugar, carrots, etc.

Diet is very personal, because of genetics. The best thing you can do is find what works well for you, what foods your body tolerates, and which it does not, and to focus on those that it tolerates.

Even the paleo people are morons, because there are people who are unable to handle large quantities of fat.

Every diet that claims to be the perfect diet for all people is a bunch of bullshit.

And every person who believes in such a thing is a low IQ moron.

SSRIs desensitize 5ht1a autoreceptors, which are a shut-of valve for serotonin release. This cascades into releasing BDNF as well, increases the size of the ventral dendats gyrus among others, implicated in anxiety & stress tolerance. We are pretty sure of how & why they work.

Obviously prescription antidepressants are over prescribed. I do believe there are some people whose brains literally do not work without medical intervention. Once dated a BPD girl and if she had an untreated depressive episode it was truly devastating.

However, majority of “depression” can be cured via:
    >sleep
    >sun
    >exercise
    >whole foods
    >social activity

It is shocking and unforgivable that physicians will prescribe hardcore antidepressants without requiring lifestyle changes.

Assuming that you are mentally ill, you will have to see the first stages of the GAPS diet as a fast in which you are allowed to drink broth. Hitting calories are not important. Then as you slowly ad more food, you can start to increase your calorie intake.

Imagine what gains you will make once your gut is healed and you can digest all the macros and micros. I might do this for this particular reason.

Yes pic related, the yellow book is about mental health, you can also read her blue book. That can be a bit more IST related since it is about how the gut works and how to cure digestive issues, so that you can absorb nutrients better (for the gains).

Prescription happens usually when a normal therapy is not working or impossible to establish

        Anonymous

The therapy is not an effective form of treatment either way. Depression is a disease of the body and mind. If someone's body is not healthy their mind cannot be healthy. Also, therapists treatment measures vary so much you're going to get the same results from seeing a zen Buddhist or priest, and they're not permanent results.

          Anonymous

Wrong, cognitive behavioral therapy works very well and long lasting, granted we're just figuring out but therapies improved with time

            Anonymous

Yes, but you don't need a therapist to change thinking patterns. Thinking patterns are like learning to punch incorrectly. The more you do an action the more it becomes engrained, but you can still change it through drilling the proper technique.

Bullshit, I got whacked on these when I was 18 without any attempt at therapy. Weaned myself off around 22, tried to get therapy at 24 - was told I had to be prescribed drugs to get the therapy. Fortunately I was smart enough that time to not take them.

It's all a big racket. My friend is a therapist and he's a total wreck anyways. He's fun to go drinking with but the idea of taking his advice is ludicrous.

Absolutely not true, you have no idea what you're talking about. SSRIs are prescribed first even if you don't do therapy

        You're wrong, it's not debatable.
I have seen SSRIs prescribed day 1 to dozens of people. They hand them out like candy.
        >oh you're depressed here is lexapro or welbutrin 5 mg we will bump it up in a month
almost half of all women are on SSRIs and wonder why they are fricking sad all the time.

          Anonymous

          This.
SSRIs seem to form a physical and emotional dependency, where most people who got on them were just going through a low phase and didn't need them to begin with.
This society falls for quick band-aid fixes over putting in hard work and suffering even the tiniest bit.
Because "trust the science [blindly]" is such a meme these days, people have stopped thinking for themselves; and have stopped taking counsel from family and friends to instead get it from some person/people they don't know and could care less about them - especially true with women.

Because research in psychology was funded by drug companies wishing to push prescriptions. They have literally never measured chemicals in the brain and the whole "it's just chemicals" can't account for any psychological disorder.

You'd think with schizophrenia you'd measure a patient's brain chemicals, but no, they basically just give them a drug that calms them. It's not a drug to try to balance anything, it's just a drug to sedate them through psychosis. Same with depression, the serotonin inhibitors do not treat depression, they sedate you. You can cure depression through exercise, diet, and changing your mindset. I had depression and suicidal thoughts daily from age 9 until I was 24 until I figured out the winning combination to treat my own depression, which I believe is almost entirely health and mindset related.

I have no idea why this article spawned a bunch of anti-drug celebration.

"Chemical imbalance" was literally never a credible theory, and no one serious in academia argued for it. The fact that it is proven, yet again, to not be the cause of depression is not newsworthy.

We've also known that SSRIs aren't trying to solve a "chemical imbalance". I feel like I'm in an alternate reality when I watch people start waving victory banners against a stance that, as far as the medical community goes, doesn't exist.

it's never been accepted medical science either. some people show improvement with SSRIs, and the answer is: we don't know why. we can't even measure serotonin predictably anyway. lastly there is no concept of a chemically balanced brain to begin with, so how the frick would anyone know what a chemical imbalance even constitutes?

So why do people who use too much MDMA develop long term depression/anxiety?
It negatively affects the serotonin system.
