Because they still have the same habits and drives that got them fat in the first place, they just brute forced the weight off. Going back up to maintenance without going overboard after serious weight loss is incredibly hard when your vice is food. You can't quit food forever like you can booze or cigarettes, you need to completely reshape your relationship with it. That's very hard to do. You should be a little more compassionate towards people who try and fail.

gee its almost like the food in America is specifically designed to be as disgustingly addictive as possible and humans are naturally very susceptible to these things. a child raised on goyslop is likely never going to realize how terrible it is for them until later in life and by then they could already have a crippling addiction to it.

Lost 70 in about year and half with daily exercise and change in diet. I quit drinking soft drinks and using seed oils.
I don't want to go backwards. I've got 40 pounds to go.
It's all a matter of maintaining proper diet and exercise right? That guy failed because he quit.

Also, I've heard thyroid problems or genetics are a bs excuse. Weight is purely calories consumed and used, correct?

100%, I love running into this argument because I've had hypothyroidism my whole life. So does my dad. I went from skelly to semi shredded. Can't put on weight. I struggle to eat as much as I need to. Still I'm lean lean leeeean, vascular af.

Some thyroid conditions are life threatening so it's not all black and white.

No shit you're skinny if you can't gain weight

While hyperthyroidism is a form of hypothyroidism, not all cases of hypothyroidism will cause the same effects. Your own personal experience is unique to you and you lack the medical knowledge to understand why.

          >While hyperthyroidism is a form of hypothyroidism
It's absolutely not, moron. Hypothyroidism = high TSH low T3/T4, hyperthyroidism= low TSH high T3/T4. Being skelly with hypothyroidism means that either your habits or medication (levothyroxine) offset the reduced BMR caused by the underactive thyroid.
          t. skinny despite hypothyroidism

Food tastes too good. Maybe it's one of the few pleasures they have in life or the only way they can deal with stress.

They go back to "eating normally" after losing the weight, like it's a temporary thing. Just as ridiculous as a smoker stopping for a month and then starting again and thinking he's now healthy because he stopped.

Because for some people losing weight is insanely hard. I quit smoking and drinking years ago but failed 2 weight loss attempts in the meantime. When you look at the scale and realize you've gained all the weight back after months of hard work it's the most demoralizing feelings you can feel in life.

My total weight loss attempts add up to 6 and I'm 30 years old. My CW is 220, I'm in the middle of my seventh attempt. There's a reason why I have more appetite than skinny gays. There's a reason why I've been fat since I was a kid. I'm not lazy.

my brother in Christ you can fix this by a sardine only fast (youtube it) or by water fasting. You can reset your appetite and satiety hormones.
