Man loses 100+ pounds eating only potatoes

Is this really possible? So only calories matter if you want to lose weight and not carbs? Sorry if this sounds stupid I'm new to all of this

    CICO is legit
However eating certain foods makes it easier to lose weight. protein is a good example, tends to keep me full longer. While eating corn based foods does not.
    Potatoes keep me full too.
Fasting works on CICO principles as well.

Yes this is how weight loss works. Burn more fuel than you put in and you will lose weight.

You will end up malnourished on a "diet" like this, it likely only works because potatoes are incredibly satiating. Potatoes are really healthy and a great option for people losing weight but the problem is the way we prepare and serve them is dog shit.

if you're fat you have plenty of the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K in your system. potato is low in protein but the protein is complete, i.e. no amino acid is particularly lacking. there's vitC, potassium, iron. a year potato & water cut can absolutely get rid of obesity

the fat you eat is the fat you wear

It's not healthy to do so. This fat fuck's problem wasn't that he simply was eating too much variety and potatoes were the way to go. His problem was he gobbled down too much fucking food, and when his diet consisted of only potatoes but was within reasonable caloric levels, he lost weight. You could do this simply by eating everything you already eat and eating less of it. You could do it better by eating the right foods and ignoring shit like potatoes. Imagine the nutritional deficiencies of eating only potatoes for so long. Ugh.

Most people don't, you are right though. Keto diets make you very insulin resistant.
          Anyone seething should read hyperlipid.

Insulin resistance is caused by fat buildup in the cells. Sugar is only relevant in that it drives the fat into cells faster. A fatty diet causes it naturally

          Anonymous

          >Sugar is only relevant in that it drives the fat into cells faster.
Why is it that fat is being driven into the cells to begin with? Caloric surplus.
What are the main causes for a caloric surplus in the US? Excessive sugar and oil consumption.
What should you not be doing on keto? Eating at a caloric surplus.

I have seen tons of instances where prediabetics have come out of it through keto weight loss. There is going to be no
          >fat buildup in the cells
If you're actually doing keto properly. The issue being fat fucks eating overly excessive amounts of butter and fat while on keto because they're under the assumption that CICO ceases to exist because they're on their fad diet. But I maintain that keto definitely can lower a1c, and fix shitty body compositions.

            Anonymous

Yes the fat buildup is because of calorie surplus, regardless of macronutrient makeup. Sure sugar consumption is high but that irrelevant to the mechanism at hand. If you ate 3000 calories of butter and steak the same thing would happen. That's like saying protein synthesis after a post workout shake is due to the fast carbs eating with the protein. The fast carbs shuttle the protein to the cells faster, but they aren't responsible for the actual muscle building. As an aside, blood sugar only improves in keto in chronic conditions - as long as you are in it. If you are normal person and do keto, and then take glucose tolerance test, you will test positive for diabetes. The improved blood sugar control is only due to the absence of extraneous blood sugar when in ketosis

              Anonymous

              ty anon. Also,
              >blood sugar only improves in keto in chronic conditions - as long as you are in it.
This is a huge issue as the people who have let themselves get fat and unathletic enough to have terrible insulin resistance in the first place are the most likely to try to "cheat" keto - "low carb" tortillas, treats, snacks etc. It's truly sad to see, and all they need is a defecit and exercise, but people in the US will try any fad diet to avoid actually moving their bodies.

I don't think it's possible to eat a caloric surplus on keto. Every time I start making my third meal of the day I think, "how am I going to eat this?". I barely hit maintenance.

From where? For breakfast I have eggs and yogurt. For lunch I have salmon and vegetable soup. For dinner I have some beef and a salad, and by that time I am actually sick of eating. If you actually stick to the keto diet, I really don't think it's possible to overeat. Unless you are one of those competitive eaters.

The macros were pretty much the same - high fat, high protein. Aside from high fiber wild stuff and berries in season there wouldn't be many carbs. You'd have to wait till the agrarian period to find them en masse.

They were not the same at all even a little wild animals are so much leaner. the only reason you can get a nice fatty steak is because we keep animals chained up and force feed them an unnatural diet. You are just repeating the keto lies everyone tells themselves

Right, but an animal you would hunt, or that you would keep as a shepherd, or buy from a shepherd, or keep yourself as a source of milk and meat would still provide with plenty of meat and fat. The ethics of factory farming aside, as a matter of historical fact, the macros were pretty similar.

He lost the raw poundage, but his fat percentage is probably still high, he's still unfit, he still probably can't run a mile, and he's still unhealthy. He wasted his weight loss. He could have hit the weights; watched his macros, ate lean, lost the weight slower but burned away at his fat percentage as well as his direct poundage.
Though in fairness, if he had the self control for that, he probably wouldn't have been fat to start with.
