To be fair a lot of the rise in life expectancy is simply a massive lowering of child/infant mortality. And nearly as important is medical care that keeps people alive in their later years. As far as actual improvements in lifestyle goes I think they’re much more modest

Comparing the alcohol our ancestors had available to what we have now, is like trying to compare coffee to meth.

Our ancestors did not have access to fricking 40% alcohol vodka by just crossing the street, fricking midwitt moron

Humans have been distilling alcohol just as long as we have been eating grain. You can make a distiller out of clay. Frick 40%, we were drinking up to 80% alcohol. Unless you have genetics from outside Europe and Asia alcohol humans are adapted to drink strong alcohol.

You should have 1-2 drinks a day if you are working out really heavy and often. One of the biggest causes of injury is tendons and ligaments. They have less blood flow than your muscles and takes much longer to recover from your work outs. Alcohol is a blood thinner which will help increase blood flow to your ligaments and tendons which will help them recover far faster. Only caveat is if you have Native American genes then you should completely avoid due to the addiction risk and inability to properly metabolize it.

    >thousands of years
Not that long evolutionarily. Fermentation beyond what just happens in rotting fruit requires waterfast pottery
    >suddenly alcohol is bad
Ancient alcohols were self limiting around 10% because the yeast would die after that. Distillation made drinks with a dangerous concentration of alcohol.
Also classically the regularly consumed alcohols were even lower percentage. Small beer was popular in Europe and only contained about 2% alcohol, ancient romans mixed their wine with one or two parts water.
Regular drunkenness is not normal, traditional, or healthy. Extreme drunkenness was likely impossible for most people. 30 standard drinks of vodka is only be a litre of drink.
That much 5% beer or wine would be 7.5 litres. You'd be pissing non stop if you were drinking 7 litres of beer a day.

Part of why alcohol ain't so great is because we're collectively so bad at the rest of our diet. Drinking alcohol is the only beverage that gives you negative hydration and I know a lot of you fellas ain't drinking your water. Sorry for saying ain't.

I love booze OP but the average person was never able to get their hands on so much for so little effort, like the economic cost of a bender today is like an hour's worth of menial labor if you go for cheap vodka, but back in the day it would have been essentially wiping out a week or more of economic activity, that's why only kings and nobles and stuff got alcoholism, the average person just couldn't afford it.

    >Suddenly, alcohol is bad
People were always aware of the positive and negative effects of drug use. You could probably find ancient texts that rag on drunkards and excessive alcohol consumption.

it's a pretty interesting history, drunkenness is spoken against in most major religions, even ones that incorporate alcohol into ceremony. I'm mostly familiar with European and early American stuff, but a lot of times churches would have sermons against drunkenness after holidays, that was the only time of year when the average person could get wasted. This changed as agricultural technology improved and distillation became common, suddenly even poor people could get wasted whenever they wanted and alcoholism was an actual social problem and not just an embarrassing faux pas once a year.

It's all about moderation. There are Mediterranean people who drink a glass of wine every day with their food and live into their 90s and 100s, while on the other hand there are britbongs who drink 20 pints and have to have their stomachs pumped every weekend.

OP, you're right. Alcohol is great. You should get drunk every day.
