A year of Mauy Thai gave me this body when I used to be skinny fat. Why do people even lift weights when they can just learn how to fight plus get shredded doing it?

        Because when you aren't trying to cut weight to compete against people your size, there is no reason not to cultivate muscle mass.

        This is much easier said than done. Those hooks aren't doing shit for you if he has a hold of your leg.

        It only works when you're almost twice as good as your opponent and/or catch them off guard(because they suck).

        My most hated kick is the hook kick I've always been a fan of power over speed for techniques, if you throw a kick that does damage and doesn't end a fight you're fricked against an experienced opponent. Also kickboxers suck at boxing and are weak they can't fully utilize the style. The best way to beat a traditional kickboxer is with boxing and an understanding of his kicking techniques.

        Kickboxers stand straight up and are used to standing too close to each other ignoring boxing and wrestling. Nobody can ignore someone with fast hands and ko power.

        You assume all kickboxers are karateka who picked up some boxing. This was true decades ago but now the only successful ones are boxers who learned to kick.

      Consistency, patience, and have fun with it. Also remember that fighting is all mental, controlling the fight has nothing to do with how big you are, or even how fast you are. It's just mental.

        I've been going for about a year and a half now. Take it a day at a time and have fun learning. If you want to really shred down and lose the pounds you'll have to train way more than one hour a day a couple times a week and be wise about your diet. But it's tons of fun. If you want to lift alongside, for my part I see the fight team at my gym do lots of bodyweight, resistance band and light barbell/kettlebell work.

    Being lean doesnt give you any advantage in fighting, the only reason why pro athletes cut is because of weight classes. On the streets you want to be heavy so people dont throw you around. Of course im not advocating for bloatmaxing, but 15 to 20% is probably where you wanna be for optimal strength and skill

          You can actually kick someone from far away. You don't have to get so close due to immobility. Every basic kick you throw can be accompanied by a hop or slide. 5ft is the pocket for getting close to box. Against a kickboxer you can jump in and stuff their kicking leg with your front foot and punch them in the face.

          If you can't pull off spinning moves you probably just suck. I love spinning hammer fists, spinning elbows in clinch, heel hooks and spinning back kicks. I also have competed and pulled it off in fights even where I ended up losing. You might just be a little slow.

    Friendly reminder that you can literally walk into a pharmacy in Thailand and walk out with tren. Must Thai guys do tend to be pretty ripped but they also work their asses off in the gym and frequently use steroids. Going to your local McDojo for a few hours a week will absolutely not give you even a mediocre physique

      Literally it's all about agility/flexibility of the legs and your arms being able to handle your whole bodyweight jumping into a maybe moving into you opponent.

      I could climb the ranks of pro fighting right now its about skill first and foremost that's why they can do yoga and girl weights and still win, bruce lee blew his back out on less than 2pl8s squat.

    There's no way to know how good bruce lee was tbh.

    But hypothetically may thai stands square and you aren't throwing anything long range compared to a textbook kickboxer. Go look up fight science and some maybe 200lb dude absolutely puts everyone else to shame with a back kick whe they're testing their hardest kicks, he almost doubles everyone else. Nothing in MT is as long range or powerful but I'd always get in close against someone standing sideways you have to get out of or in and past the 1ft or so range of power if someone is trying to side kick you.
