Just start. There is no best and if there was it would be subjective and depending on the person, also most people haven't tried every style so how the frick would they know?

Mindfulness is probably the most popular. Here just do Jack Kornfield he's pretty based. Neve rmind the sappy music at the beginning.

Why do some Christians believe this?

Meditating makes you incredibly susceptible to suggestion and other propaganda. It makes you incredibly open and easily manipulated.

I was saying it lets demons enter your mind metaphorically. If you get in the habit of meditating frequiently you'll find that the system will be able to control you much more easily.

Why do you think that things like "mindfullness" get so much funding recently? The Elites want people to numb their own minds to their own emotions and stress. They want people to clear themselves so they don't realise that the elites are fricking them in the ass and turning the world into an ungoldy treacherous dystopia.

This may be the best thing you blokes read on this website this year, here goes, thank me later.
One of the biggest problems we have as humans is that there are thoughts that we generate ourselves and thoughts that come to us from outside ourselves. Have a conversation with someone, their thoughts enter your mind. Read a book, new thoughts from outside you enter your mind, etc.
The biggest obstacle to critical thinking is not learning logic or psychology or any other bullshit. It’s being able to categorise the contents of your thoughts according to their origin. To do this you need time to think. I’ll say that again - to do this you need time to think.
Now fast forward to 2023. An unsuspecting person, even a reclusive introvert, is constantly bombarded with thoughts that come from outside them. TV, radio, social media, internet, news, smart phones, etc etc. So people don’t have time to actually develop their own thoughts and are not only unaware that this is the case but also ignorant of the need to do this.
Look at people these days. TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, school, uni, work etc constantly. No quiet time in silence and reflection to think their own thoughts let alone consider how this insane volume of outside direction might be affecting their own values.
Now, meditation is put out there as a solution to try and quieten the mind, as people get stressed and realise their minds are cluttered. But it’s bullshit. Emptying your mind, focussing on your breath or guided meditation etc is just passivity and a false sense of peace. It’s a delusion. It is not the answer to anything. It gives people a sense of “peace” because they let their mind stop for a while, it took the hamster off the treadmill for a few minutes, but that’s the best case result.

The intellect should rule over the body and the soul. It should keep watch over the thoughts and be able to discern which thoughts are from outside and which thoughts are from the soul itself. Then which should be discarded, which should be wrestled with, which should be heeded. This is what “contemplation” is. We don’t give ourselves time to do this nor understand the importance of doing this. The modern meme of meditation is a perverse corruption of this higher, active, useful and edifying state of contemplation.
        “Get behind me, Satan.”
There’s a book called “our thoughts determine our lives” by an Orthodox Saint called Thaddeus. I’d highly recommend it.

Yoga Nidra if you have sleep or energy problems. It's like a miracle. I've been living with a sleep disorder for a very long time and even though my sleep is still shit this really helps. I can now take a nap any time I want.

I've always heard of this but never actually looked into it at all because all of the videos were like 40+ minutes long. I'll check it out thanks anon.

Why do some Christians believe this?

There's truth to it in every religion if you're the type of idiot that thinks your mind should be empty and clear when meditating. Modern Christians and westerners in general don't know that there was meditation throughout their history as well. Probably demonized and destroyed from their culture by the catholic if I had to take an easy guess.

meditation isn't always about completely clearing your mind. sometimes you focus on your breathing and sometime you focus on what you are grateful for like family or being able to lift.

That's what I'm talking about but I didn't want to start spouting /x/ stuff here. Schools of thought exist in Buddhism and other schools that think emptying your mind opens the practitioner up to the influence of negative entities, it's not exclusive to Christians like the guy in this thread is inferring.

Anon you should really consider the negativity and doubt in your mind. Evil comes from fear, anger and envy.

Important. Sometimes you DO NOT FOCUS. Took me thirty years to learn this. Turns out most modern people spend too much time focusing on things. The way meditation is taught is all about focus and this is actually dangerous for some people. It can send me into hypomania for weeks. It can actually make anxiety disorders worse. It messes with your sleep. Trying to relax with focus is like trying to relax while tensing your muscles into knots and never letting go. If there was one thing I would share that I learned in life it would be this concept of learning how not to focus while meditating.

To be honest I couldn't get through most of the Yoga Nidra videos either and the fake sexy voice most of the women put on pisses me off. So, what I did is learn how to do it without the videos.

In short, you just tense and relax your muscles one by one and then, this is important, do not focus on anything. I like to put a podcast on and ignore it. Thoughts will pop up. Ignore them even if you have to open your eyes and let them wander around the room. Never look at anything for long. You want a wandering mind not a focused one for sleep.

I dunno why people don't go to the most authentic sources for these sorts of things. Monks who've dedicated their whole lives to this stuff.

Here's a good video on the subject.

    https://www.ajahnchah.org/book/Still_Flowing_Water1.php
"Some people think that meditation means to sit in some special way, but in actual fact standing, sitting, walking and reclining are all vehicles for meditation practice. You can practice at all times. Samādhi literally means ''the firmly established mind.'' To develop samādhi you don't have to go bottling the mind up. Some people try to get peaceful by sitting quietly and having nothing disturb them at all, but that's just like being dead. The practice of samādhi is for developing wisdom and understanding."

Why don't you just ask those friends?

Haven't yet asked what particularly worked for them. I'm more of the guy who listens a lot in the friend group and observes things when we hangout every couple weeks or so. One of them talked about Alan Watts too and how he was cool.
