Find 10 minutes of your day when you´re not busy and meditate.

10 minutes is good but not enough to progress. 30 minutes to 1 hour a day would be better. Once you have it in practice you need to expand your mindfulness to daily activities and life. This way you can practice being aware of your thoughts, your mind and your present surroundings even when you walk, wait, lift, sit or drive.

Thanks to the article from the previous thread I got back into practicing. Never knew where to start mindfulness self-compassion.

        see

The amount of time you have the patience to pay attention to your breathing, realize you're thinking, and go back to your breathing.

I started like that and I'm at 20 minutes per session scattered throughout the day

Daily is best, but daily meditation should be kept short at max 10 minutes.

On top of that should be weekly meditation that gradually grows longer and longer. For both would recommend starting at one minute, and slowly going longer and longer until you hit 10 minutes for daily. Then you can work on making weekly longer and longer.

For my weekly meditation I'm at nearly 2 hours now. It really helps get rid of all the bullshit that builds up during the work week.

I medititate every day in the morning when I wake up and in the evening before going to sleep. To build the habit I would recommend meditating 5-10min every morning right after you WAKE UP. Meditate 5-10min every morning before you do ANYTHING (toilet is an exception).

Use the medito app. It's free and has a beginner course.

If you work out, and get tired meditation becomes amazingly easy.
Something I discovered to fall deeper into relaxation is:
      >relax until you feel sleepy
      >focus on your sleepyness
      >dwell there
      >watch it go away and how rested you feel

Have any of you got good at observing thoughts?
I'm only good at it when I'm sleepy
I listen the sounds, and I watch the images and they all start gathering in the center of my vision until I get curious and try to look, mess everything up and just fall into thinking again

first choose a tradition, meditation is a broad term like excercise, different traditions use meditation to achieve different goals, buddhism use t to develop insight into the inner workings of the mind, some yoguis use it to develop concentration, the mindfulnes system use it to develop awareness and relaxation etc
choosing a tradition is usefull becxause you can follow their path and use the tips and techniques they prescribe, sicne a technique to develop concentration(shamata)wouldn't be so suefull if you wanna develop awareness(vipassana) since concentrating in an object will abstract you from the present moment

Meditation bros, very very important question:

How the frick do you meditate when your nose is blocked? With your mouth? No meditation book recommends mouthbreathing. But no meditation book gives a solution for blocked nose either. How does even a trained monk maintain his breath while his nose is blocked?
This is the very crux of the entire practice, but nobody seriously addressed it. Every mediation guide presumes you can breathe with your nose. What about people with a broken nose? Are they eternally severed from reaching Enlightenment?

Just a good read I'm enjoying as a primer to meditation right now is
Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha
200+ pages in and he hasn't finished talking about why you should meditate and what to achieve with it. It might be a bit long-winded for some people but I've enjoyed it so far. Free download of the book on the website, can find it through a simple google search.
