Meditation thread?

I'm trying to get into meditation and maybe yoga. I got bipolar and apparently transcendental meditation helps but curious if any of my IST bros meditate and what the benefits are

do breathwork once a day for a month and watch your symptoms sort themselves out. a lot of people can't into meditation because we're so overstimulated but having something to do, like breathing, can help you adjust.

Benefits include a clearer mind and a better understanding of how that mind functions, which leads to many more benefits if you continue down the path. Ignore npcs saying meditation and spirituality is nonsense, frankly they are completely ignorant and don't realize it.

The thing you need to realize is that you don't need to do meditation for those mental gains, but the sort of ritualistic / rigid approach helps some people who can't really self-analyze on the fly.
If you're a little more advanced, you can just jump straight head to Cognitive Behavioural "Therapy", self-administered.

Just meditate for 20mins after you wake up and 20 mins before bed. Your bipolar though so you should get on meds before you go crazy and eat someones face on public transport.

Yeah I meditate most mornings and practice mindfulness. It takes a lot of patience, but it will strengthen your focus and self-awareness over time.
It can make you a lot more resilient and happy in general because you develop the ability to acknowledge thoughts, emotions and experiences and either accept them or work through them without having them command your or consume your attention. You also gain a stronger and stronger ability to just be present.
A practice to strengthen focus and awareness is really it in a nutshell.

Just started dabbling in it my self, trying to do and think about absolutely nothing is a good way to let your brain catch up. Or at least thats how it feels for my ADHD ass.

I have really anxious intrusive thoughts about everything. Like my brain is convinced any little thing can make the sky fall.
Can meditation help? Cold showers kinda help, but they suck so much.

    yes, can recommend Zen mindfulness
it's basically turning your brain off and on again
most of the cringe you feel is caused by you having thoughts that go on for weeks, months, years
once you clear your head properly the first time and start treating it as your baseline, you will benefit immensely in most aspects of life
not freestyle rap though, that's about hypnotizing yourself
