A lot of metal heads are into classical, or at least baroque, you plug Vivaldi into an amp and you literally have metal music. It's mostly the musicians themselves though, metal fans probably are unaware but most of the guitarists are classically trained.

When stressed, men recieve higher levels of testosterone. Punk or metal induces a form of stress (though an enjoyable one that excites you) that allows one to lift more. Metal and punk are more popular with those who come from troubled households

      https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5128352/

Listening to punk or metal is similar to roidtrooning. Have fun dying at 30, ill just lift serenely enjoying the calm that jazz gives me.

Frick you and your citation, classical kicks ass. Jazz is betatastic though.
Jazz is basically the place musicians go if they want to be really good at their craft, but they play the genre that non-musicians can't even comprehend and appreciate. Literally only impressive to musicians, like an elitist taste for them.
The top jazz guys were really moody and beta, too. Definitely a more feminine style of music. There's not much leadership to it - every musician is kind of soloing and showing off, but they're doing it as a group - it's chaotic at best.
I enjoy rock, metal, and classical, resulting in a thorough enjoyment of neoclassical acoustic and electric guitar progressions - very kino.
      Am I high test?

I listen to everything because I musicmaxxed to get girls, started with guitar then drums then piano and now I'm at 12 instruments.
I have noticed that during high test periods I enjoy metal more while lower test periods(during high stress, after prolonged sleep deprival when not training as well) I gravitate more towards jazz.
Though it could be other factors, I find it a lot easier to lift to Pantera than to Brubeck and perhaps listening to one thing inclines me to listen to more alike things.

People who listen to metal and rock usually have higher test because
    1. They are younger on average than jazz and classical listeners.
    2. Most people who report listening to a certain style of music either primarily listen to that style and don't branch out often. People who will be naturally attracted more to metal and rock will prefer the perceived aggression and higher BPM because its better associated with high test activities and social outings.
So no correlation does not mean causation. Thread is over

Throughout my entire life my go to tracks that I play on repeat are high bpm rock tracks in the general stylistic grouping of punk, emo, and or metal. That being said some stupid observational study on testosterone perceived in music listeners is not even going to be representative of the different spheres of listeners in said genre. Compare bog standard shit popular rock or metal to any free jazz or modernist classical. What do you think will sound more high test?

Quite jazzy. The rock/classical fusion makes it have elements I like, but the jazz element makes sure it's all over the place. All of the players are doing amazing shit. Definitely a music snob's kind of album. Not bad.
I was thinking scandinavian metal that is heavily inspired by classical music. They get these childhood classical guitar prodigies that transition to playing in a metal band, and I just find it's a tight sound with a good keys player.
A band like Ghost fits the bill these days, and a band like Children of Bodom back in the day.

Classical is focused on balance and order, whereas romantic is more about strong emotions and beauty. Classical was more complex due to this,, but romantic was more dramatic. That's why for romantic pieces you get a lot of really soft parts then it gets suddenly loud af. pp to ff in between notes was very very common in romantic because it had the dramatic feel to it. Gets meme about a lot, but it worked.. The classical period was from about 1750-1820 and the romantic period was the rest of the 19th century.

A good comparison would probably be Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and Chopin's Nocturnes for purely piano pieces. Beethoven's Kreutzer(violin sonata no. 9, op. 47) and Fritz Kreisler's Alt-Wiener Tanzweisen would be good if you also like a lil bit o' violin.

                Anonymous

Honestly, i don't hear much of a difference except that Beethoven sounds more rigid (but could also be the pianist interpreting it this way). Both pieces sound melancholic and are equally beautiful to me.

This is just you being a semantic butthole anon. “Classical” refers to both the genre and the period of music. All western art music is colloquially referred to as classical music. Both Schoenberg and Haydn’s music is referred to as classical music despite only one actually being a classical era composer. Talk to any musician or music professor and they wont bat an eye if you call Tchaikovsky classical music instead of romantic music.

          Anonymous

There's three reasons that I would say, though I can't say they are universal:
Personally I find meditation to be an entirely different experience without music. More challenging, but also more rewarding.
The sounds of nature and your actions are actually quite beautiful. For example when cooking, the sound your knife makes as it cuts through ingredients and the edge hits the board, the sizzling of ingredients in the pan, all that is droned out with music. I love music for cleaning, but not for the cooking process myself.
Spiritually I think that we ought to be able to deal with outselves without as many distractions and music is just that. You don't need to live a life devoid of any pleasure, but constant distraction may not be good either.
Just think about if any of those resonate with you, and if not, disregard my post and keep doing what you are doing.

            Anonymous

I see your point but it's not like i am blasting so loud that i don't hear natural ambient noises anymore. For me personally, certain music enhances my experiences. During meditation it puts me into trancelike state and i can focus on my toughts and breath, and sometimes i put on nature ambient sounds which is just as amazing for meditation. When i am working out, aggressive music can give me the final push i need. Music isn't just background noise for me, it's mean a lot (i am also a hobby musician...so...). But if you talk about people who blast popular music all day, like really bad top 40 crap, yeah...not my thing either. These people have no taste, and are essentially plebs. But not everyone is musically gifted or able to appreciate fine art when they see or hear it. Sounds pretentious but it is what it is.

  83. 2 years ago

Jazz is worshipped by effete low T liberals who are insecure of their feminity and think they can ameliorate this by adopting the crude jungle rhythms of the barely-sentient Black race. It didn't occur to them that the only redeeming quality of Black music was lost when they ceased to sing it in the plantation fields. As a genre held up against others, it has no redeeming qualities. It's classical for people with low IQs and no talent.

I listen to all those genres (professional musician) and have quite high T (balding, bodyhair everywhere, muscular, high sex drive).

I think you have to be a lot more specific within genres because modern metal music is extremely emasculated, the production is very similar to pop music just with distorted guitars. Similarly a lot of modern jazz is elevator music, completely uninspired and risk averse. Compare modern jazz to the drug-fuelled masculine chaos of 60s Coltrane...

In the classical world a lot of people consider modern soundtracks to be within the realm of classical music, when I would consider them similarly emasculated and sterile forms of music compared to the high testosterone works of Wagner or Rachmaninov.

My gym playlist is a weird mixture of shit. WHo knows maybe some of you find some shit you like, kek.

I listen to hyperpop, metal, nationalistic rap in languages I do not speak, electronic, arabic nasheeds, and other experimental shit
Almost got my ass beat once because I listened to some serbian nationalist rap and some dude heard the lyrics. I listen to entirely different stuff when not in the gym. Some stuff from that list:
    >Mick Gordon (Doom, Doom Eternal soundtracks)
    >SOPHIE (Ponyboy and Faceshopping)
    >1 800 Pain (Hurt, Outside, BNE)
    >The soundtrack to hotline miami (1&2)
    >Death grips
    >Movie soundtracks (A Serbian Film, John Wick - Le castle vania)
    >various nasheeds (Mahum Bi Ummati Ahmadin, Ummati Qad Laha Fajrun, Liyakun Yawmuka (trap remix), Abu Ali - Savarim (trap remix))
    >Generic metal bands
    >Pop shit (Heads will roll)
    >Various phonk titles
    >Dubstep (knifeparty etc.)
    >meme shit (multi track listening, the sigma male grindset meme song, U got that (the ricardo meme song))
Not gonna list all the other shit in languages I don't understand, a lot of it is in cyrillic or arabic neither of which I can read and I am too lazy to copy paste, but it's shit like "Gazirovka - Black", Гpибы - Taeт лeд, as I said, not going to copy all the shit in languages I can't even read.
For warmup I like electro swing, electro funk, shit like that.
    >Destination Calabria
    >caravan palace
    >cut capers
    >electric swing circus
    >F-777
    >Jamie Berry
    >Peggy Suave
    >Electronic Perséphone
For cooldown I like folk music, and just slower songs in general. Also blues, jazz and stuff.
    >Kaval sviri
    >Die Grenzwacht hielt im Osten
    >"The real fold blues"
    >"boa - duvet"
    >"Flyday Chinatown"
    >macross 82-99 fun tonight
    >猫 シ Corp. --- Luxury's Fortune
    >"Flёur - Formalin"
    >MEUTE - You & Me (Flume Remix)

I remember reading this study. If I remember correct, it also looked at a few specific artists/bands, and concluded that Coldplay is being appreciated almost entirely by low test men. I found this be to very interesting. Does anyone have a link to this study?

Ex metal head here (used to be a drummer in several bands). The hilarious thing about metal heads is, despite all the aggression in their music of choice, the tattoos, the screaming, the beards etc - metal heads are generally the most friendly, laid back and pleasant people in the world. The complete opposite of testosterone fueled men.

Except "industrial metal" fans, they seem to be really uptight and overcompensating with the faux-manliness. Just what ive noticed.

I listen to pretty much only metal but I play a few instruments and get called to fill in at a variety of gigs. If you're a musician looking into gains for your chops and solos, take a few beginner to intermediate jazz courses for what it teaches peripherally.
Metal guitar is jazz with distortion/fuzz and more emphasis on staying on beat. Jazz will teach how to noodle around within a chord progression and this skill applies to every style of music from drop tuned distorted chorused/phased sludge to bright and twangy homosexual country-pop.
Jazz bass similarly teaches all the different notes that can be played within a chord, great for "slash chords" (usually inversions like C/E where the band plays a C chord but bass and piano's left hand play the third which is E) or other tension-building progressions and making notable bass lines, as well as how to listen to what everyone else is doing and play in a manner that supports the song itself. It'll also drill in the importance of dynamics and tone control for certain sounds that you can apply anywhere.
Jazz drums teach timing despite the swing feel, the absolute importance of dynamics, and listening to apply syncopation with the other instruments. Kick and snare pair with bass, cymbal work with guitars, toms and snare can play well with horns and throw some cymbal work in too for piano, etc. Dynamics are a huge part as well- even in most genres of metal drumming isn't just wildly beating the shit out of everything.
Jazz piano teaches how to both take the lead and play supportive beyond basic chords. It really sharpens the ear to follow along with what the bass or guitar is doing and to stay out of their way, or to play along in a syncopated lick an octave or so off. It'll stretch you with timing and dynamics as well.
Horns and woodwind instruments I don't know much about but the music theory for soloing and attention to detail for syncopation/band support should be helpful

    >hey forget about this song that could convert to metal riffs and blend in with everything else that's about fate knocking at your door https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOk8Tm815lE&t=473s
    >we're just not going to count this literal metal song from the four seasons which is really about the stages of life, with this one being decay and death that we all must face: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZCfydWF48c
    >don't listen to the first 4 minutes of this orchestral piece that's heavier than anything you'll find from a metal band today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb2h24lTqho

    Frick off.

Jazz is dissonant israeli noise however and should be thrown into the trash along with all the pseudo-intellectuals who think it's brilliant.
