Checking in. I haven't added salt to my food in several years now. Candy and most foods with added sugar is too sweet and I physically grimace at the thought of fast food. I'll never tell anyone else what to eat or how they should live, but I do secretly judge people who consume that kind of stuff now.

Why would you not add salt to your food? Salt is a natural product. I agree with not eating fast food, avoiding sugar and just eating natural whole foods but salt is literally fine.

        Anonymous

Salt can stimulate appetite, so if you're already getting enough there's no good reason to have more unless you want to gain weight.

Yeah I agree with the other anon, you shouldn’t limit your salt intake if it’s good natural salt on healthy meals. You’re likely to be causing a lot of stress and long term wear on your body by not getting enough sodium

Unrestrainedly based. I practice the same. Not worrying about seasoning or flavour pairing bullshit saves so much time and effort.

      Anonymous

Surely flavour pairing is still a thing even if you don't season your food? Different types of meat and vegetables have natural flavours that can pair well or poorly with each other.

      Anonymous

moronic take. Resetting your palette isn’t about not caring about flavour and seasoning. It’s literally about making it so that you can taste things better and season properly with natural herbs and seasonings rather artificial flavours and enhancers.

          Anonymous

It's not that hard to avoid as long as you use common sense. Is it sweet and sold in pastries and super markets? Definitely has sugar. Sodas and soft drinks are also an obvious no. If you still want your fix bake your own goods. Sugar in home made sweets can be controlled, I love me some home made soft cookies with cocoa powder, butter and a tiny bit of brown sugar. I don't even think sugar is bad for you in small doses, it's just that the average consumer nowadays is used to the sugary nuclear warheads that are in most candy and soft drinks, which also nukes their gut biome.

Cut out processed wheat/enriched wheat flour, but proper bread is still good
cut out added sugars altogether, the only sugar you eat should come from fruits
and by "low seasoning" I hope you mean less salt and not eat bland shit because oregano, nutmeg, cinnamon, corriander, cayenne and chili certainty don't hurt anyone

      Anonymous

This happened naturally to me after a few years of a high carb, nearly no fat diet. Once your fat intake is low enough your will power magically appears. That's how it worked for me. Things like sugar, salt, fat, thirst, and low electrolytes trick you into eating when you're not actually hungry. Once you get that balanced you can flatout skip entire meals without any will power at all.

If it's SO GOOD for you, why don't you go ahead and straight up mix that salt and animal fat together and eat that sludge.
Stop making excuses, you can easily get your sodium from food without adding salt, and butter is garbage when you consider how caloric dense it is

Look at my lunch today. 2 pieces of pork, 3 small zuccinis, one big tomato and one cucumber. And I made the mistake of purchasing pre-seasoned pieces of pork. I checked the ingredients of the seasoning and it's like
        >sugar, canola oil, salt etc...

Godamnit I'm never buying pre-seasoned crap ever again. Yeah sure it tastes better than plain pork, but whats the point to add useless calories just so that it tastes good?
No matter how good it tastes most of it is gonna end up as shit in the toilet anyway

      Anonymous

It's been mentioned already. Just abstain from ready made foods whose whole purpose is to be tasty and addictive. No sugary candy, cereal or soft drinks, no salty potato chips, deli meats or snacks, no fast food with all kinds of sneed oils and mystery sauces. Just eat whole foods, either raw or cooked by you, employ all the 4 tastes (salty, sweet, bitter, sour) and you'll get used to it in no time. Don't be afraid of using herbs, spices and fats (olive oil and butter). Remember, your brain is wired to enjoy these under normal circumstances. It's corporations that hijacked your response to salty and sweet.

        Anonymous

How long does it take? I know this kind of thing is a lifelong change, but what's the reset time like? I'd love to get to a point where I naturally avoid processed foods because they taste too overwhelming.

          Anonymous

I began to notice a change around two months. It's now been two years and it's become a second nature, you are correct that it is a lifestyle change, don't expect to count down the days until the time the cravings stop. After a while your body will instictively react to foods that are good for it. If anything else fails, read the ingredients list if you are wary of something.

Highly processed and only introduced in our diet in such large quantities during the last hundred years. Correlates with the rise in obesity and most importantly heart disease. They are used by the food industry because they are dirt cheap to produce and are (thanks to a process of bleaching and deodorization) tasteless, and they can be used to easily add calories to meals. They are dubious at best and toxic at worst, there are far better alternatives, both by animal and plant sources.

All you homosexuals are full of shit. The only way reset your appetite is through abstinence.
          Fast for 3 months then say something more believable like;

congrats anon, it is good for your palate and shows refinement for sure. I have also reached a similar place. To add to your examples--- now when I drink beer I can't help but taste how sickly sweet and syrupy it often is. All the sugars and in some cases corn syrup that went into and made it through the fermentation process... now for me it's almost like drinking soda tastewise (and nutritionally it IS like drinking a soda with all the carbs and sugar). I can't drink more than 1 or 2 anymore for pretty much the same reason I couldn't drink multiple sodas in a row. Horrifies me to think I used to have frequent nights--- every weekend probably--- of drinking 10 beers back to back, and that much of the partying world still does that uncritically. Imagine if the norm for every weekend was to go out to a bar and drink 5-10 12oz sprites in a window of a few hours.... that's basically what drinking culture does with beer. It also makes it pretty obvious how you can wake up feeling so shitty after a night like that, and puts into perspective how bad drinking is for you and how much it contributes to weight gain
